Split order: Banging Baja Shrimp Tacos + Lemon Grilled Shrimp Tacos
Karson S.

Was looking for an easy bite as a solo traveler and so glad I found this place! It was about an hour before closing, but it was one of a few places open on a Monday evening & they served me as if it was any other time of the day. I asked some questions, and they recommended a few of their favorites (which I got to mix and match). I got the bang bang and the lemon tacos. The plantains were also super good! Didn't love the chips and dip, but the tacos are the star here

Cabo will never fail to disappoint! This was where my fiance took me for our first date back when we were still in college. Will definitely always go back not only because of the memories but because of how good the food and service is here!! Their tacos are all so good!! My all time favorite is the shrimp taco and the salmon taco!! Def worth the hype

Visited on a Thursday night for dinner with my mom. We were seated in the upstairs portion which was kind of neat as it overlooks the restaurant below. Food was great and the serving sizes were huge so great for sharing! We ordered margaritas, the guac, queso dip and last but not least the carne asada burrito. Took a little while for the drinks to come out but understandable as the waitress had to hike up the stairs constantly to serve everyone. Great place and highly recommend visiting.

Friendly, efficient service. Soy ginger shrimp tacos were amazing, blackened Mahi-Mahi portion was generous and well-seasoned, lemon ahi was flavorful and well accompanied, and the battered fish was as expected though a bit too heavy on the grease. Salsa was more like pico which was appreciated by some but not all at the table and queso was not the standard white dip but still delicious.

You looking for a something easy but tasty, come to this place. When you walk in, there is an open area with a big tv. But there is also outside covered seating for those really nice days. I got the ahi tuna burrito which was good. A bit dry but good. The rest of my party got the bang shrimp tacos and salmon taco bowl and everyone was happy. Rose was our server and she was fantastic. Would recommend the food and the margaritas.

Omg the lemon grilled shrimp tacos under their specialties was sooooo gooood!! It came with two stuffed taco and a side. The drinks were really good I got a spicy margarita. The chips and queso was also really good. Portions were good. Sides were mid. Service was alright. Drinks were hitting! Super casual spot! Kinda pricey compared to other college restaurants, but you do get a good amount of food and it's one of the most popular restaurants in Blacksburg. A must try located downtown! I always used to come here when I attended college and I'll be back the next time I visit. Not an amazing spot for vegetarian but they have vegetarian options.

Honey Soy Glazed Salmon Tacos with a side of Black Beans & Rice

Even though Cabo Fish Taco is several hours away from our place (please come to NOVA!), we are definitely bookmarking the restaurant to return. We wanted to find some good food during our road trip, so we stopped in for some fish tacos. We were able to find a spot in the dedicated lot, but it does fill up quickly during mealtime. We checked in at the front stand, and they gave us the choice of dining indoors or outside. Since it was a beautiful day, we decided the covered patio would be a good choice. Our waitress was very friendly and welcomed us with house chips and salsa. She gave us great recommendations as we looked over our options. I ordered the honey soy glaze salmon tacos, and my husband ordered the special of the day--a buffalo ranch chicken. When he noted that he liked spicy food (and wanted his face "burned off"), she said that wouldn't be a problem, and he could get extra jalapeños on his side of mashed potatoes. When we got our meals, she also brought out a small dish of a red sauce for him, saying it was the stuff the chefs kept in the back for themselves when they wanted a nice kick with their meals. My salmon tacos were absolutely delicious. I loved the balance of the wasabi and honey, and the salmon was very tender. My husband loved sweating through the pain of the bonus hot sauce and jalapeños. It was the perfect lunch spot as we continued on with our travels. I would love to visit again future road trips!

Steak bowl.

Ordered the Steak Bowl. The only thing I liked about Steak Bowl was the bowl because it looked good on the reviews. Steak was dry, chewy and overcooked and the rice was way undercooked, al dente if that's a thing with rice. Not seasoned well. The veggies on the bottom were very mushy. I ate the steak with about 2 glasses of tea because the waiter didn't come around very often. I think 3 times. Take order, refill and check. Someone else delivered the food. Never checked on us after food arrived. To be honest I've never had a good meal at Cabo, I've only eaten here because I've been with others.

Came by the night of the Christmas parade with 7 people, and had no problem getting seated without a reservation. They have a great drink menu - shoutout the El Cheapo - that we all took advantage of. I ended up going with some sort of lemon fish taco (forgot the name, sorry), and they were really good. What really stuck out to me was the shell itself - a lot of tacos that I've had have had really soggy/tough shells that ruin the whole experience. Their shells were the right amount of crispy, and were not dry. Service was also good, and the pricing was fair.

Lemon Grilled Shrimp Tacos

Great lunch experience! Almost as soon as we were seated, we were brought a basket of chips and a dish piled high with salsa. We couldn't stop eating it! So delicious! I had a seasonal margarita (apple cider ) and my husband had a traditional margarita--also fabulous. I ordered the lemon grilled shrimp tacos. They were SO good. I don't think any other shrimp tacos will ever match how good these were! My husband had the guacamole salmon salad and that was also delicious. Our waitress was friendly and helped us with some plans for dinner which we really appreciated :) I will definitely return here. I now understand why there is usually a line to get in! Going for lunch was a great time. But I would also like to visit and hang out at the cool bar. Definitely worth visiting.

My top-tier chum who…read moreliterally went to the school of hospitality (down the street at VA Tech!) and I came by here this past Tuesday night after a few other potential dinner spots fell through - the week after graduation is not the best for college town restaurant reliability. This was one of the few businesses with a kitchen still open, and had the distinction of being the only restaurant she'd actually been to when she was in college here over 20 years ago. Certainly a testament to the power of Mexican food and the young pups who will eat it any hour of the day and night. Unlike her last visit, El Rodeo apparently isn't as dark and divey as it used to be. A shame in my view, but it is what it is. The walls are painted a bright white, and if you didn't have the menus and margaritas roaming around, it could have hosted any genre of cuisine. There was an outdoor dining area that was pretty hopping but we opted for indoors and were immediately seated in a spacious booth with views of giant TVs showing a wild Cavs/Knicks playoff game. I wasn't obscenely hungry so I avoided eye contact with the burritos and instead went for a chicken/cheese quesadilla and a large glass of water. The quesadilla showed up within a few minutes and honestly really hit the spot. It was SUPER cheesy (in terms of flavor, not quantity, which I liked - I'm all about an ingredient equilibrium with my food), and I loved the crispness of the tortilla. The chicken was nicely shredded and seasoned, and it was generous portion to the point where I was only able to eat about half of it. The rest came back to the hotel with us to be consumed at a later time. The service was excellent. The turnaround time of the food was insanely quick, and the only noticeable delay was when our waiter understandably needed to attend to a wild 21st birthday celebration at a nearby table. Happy Birthday to her, and I hope the margaritas treated her well. College town restaurants kind of are what they are - it's not really the land of bougie gastropubs but rather affordable tasty shizzle that you might impulsively eat in the middle of the night. Solid recommend.

I was especially a big fan of the grilled onions and the peppers, as these were cooked really well. however, the tomatoes weren't great. charging extra for these was a little strange, but I didn't mind it what really brings the dish overall together and takes it to another level is the cheese dip that mixes throughout everything if this was too cheesy - it would ruin the entire dish by making it practically inedible if it didn't have a strong flavor, the entire dish would basically feel plain however, this was just perfect. It had a hint of cheese, but most surprisingly, it had a bunch of other flavors in there too that created a sauce that coated every part of the dish and significantly increased the flavor of everything it touched this resulted in the overall meal having a comforting, deep flavor profile that was really, really good The margarita was also decent - it was super sugary and you couldn't taste the alcohol that much, but it was enjoyable to drink For the price, this was a pretty great deal. When adding the vegetables onto the ACP, it came out to around 15 dollars, and this was a really nice portion size given that price. The jumbo margarita was also a really large drink for around 9 dollars

But who would ever imagine that here in Christiansburg, Virginia, I was able to discover this gem of a Mexican restaurant. After being awarded the Triad Yelper of the Year 2024 Award at the Yelpies Award Ceremony last year, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And this El Gran Rodeo Mexican Restaurant located in Christianberg, Virginia is the perfect example. This Mexican Restaurant is in a class of its own. With an exclusive contemporary decor that gives an air of elegance and distinction, and an outstanding Mexican gourmet cuisine, one can say this restaurant is above the rest in classy ambiance and in perfected, high-end Mexican cuisine. From the time you arrive at this restaurant, and admire the beautiful contemporary architectural design of its building, which embedded in its design is the greatness of the majestic Mexican pyramids; and view the magnificent outdoor patio dining area surrounded by a fence of solid stones and containing elegant outdoor furniture appropriate for dinning; one can become aware of the uniqueness of this restaurant. As one enters the restaurant through its majestic entrance one uncovers a clean and elegant contemporary interior design made exclusively with quality materials, creating an amazing atmosphere of distinction, that will contribute to the excellent dining experience there. I invite you to view my photographs accompanying this review for a better sense of the restaurant's decor. We were greeted very graciously by the Host at the Host's station and led to our table which was actually a comfortable and elegant booth with granite table. Our server was soon to join us after the assistant server had brought us a basket of warm Tortilla Chips with a Red Salsa and a White one as well. We both ordered Iced water with a slice of lime to drink and a Steak Super Burrito. The Chips and Salsa, both the red and the white tasted delicious. And the Burrito tasted amazing. The pieces of steak inside was quality meat marinated with ingredients from a gourmet recipe and cooked to perfection by a knowledgeable and experienced Chef. Our server came by at the appropriate times to see how we were doing and refilled our water. We already had plans to go somewhere else for dessert but next time we will definitely try the dessert here for they looked nice in the photos of the desserts menu. I highly recommend this very unique Mexican Restaurant for an extraordinary dining experience like no other you've ever had.

I haven't been to a wide variety of eating establishments in the Blacksburg college town area so I…read moredon't have a lot to compare Centro to which is why, for now, 4 Stars is what I'm giving this place as my inaugural rating. BUT....signs are REALLY PROMISING FOR AN UPGRADE TO 5 STARS if the 2 times I've been here - once in July and then a few weeks ago before the start of classes - are any indication. This was a total stumbled-on find for us and Yelp once again assisted us in picking this little gem. We were looking for a dinner spot, in the mood for anything, just wanted to find someplace with good reviews, went searching on Yelp and came across Centro. Prices were just right and street tacos sounded amazing and a healthier choice - but not too healthy lol - than a greasy burger joint, fast food or an overpriced sit down. Finding the place, at night, was tricky believe it or not. There were noooo pics in Yelp of the shopfront (there are now, check 'em out) and we went up and down the block where google maps indicated it was. Folks - it's a 2nd floor place with 2 small front entrances - the main one right on N Main - a tiny door with a big illustrated skull on the black awning (hard to see in the dark) - sandwiched in between Poor Billy's (on the corner of N Main and Jackson) and Boudreaux's. The other entrance to Centro is on Jackson, just around the corner. Just outside the Jackson entrance, you'll see the makeshift outside dining area for Centro - like 5 or 6 table/chair sets roped off as the street is still a through street for traffic. Clever outside dining area actually - tables are sufficiently distanced, servers wore masks, tables are cleaned diligently and only QR code online menus! Oh and on warm, sunny days, there is large-tree-shade providing nice relief. Way to go! Okay - now for THE FOOD! Sooooooo gooooood! Caveat: we've only ever had the a la carte street tacos and the side order of chips and salsa and guac. That's all. But that's been plenty for us and sufficiently filling and satisfying. The menu isn't extensive and they're not Taco Bell (thank goodness!) or On the Border - but Centro doesn't need to be. I figure their limited menu allows them to focus on QUALITY and what they do best. And it shows - YUM. Value: Absolutely excellent value! Way to go Centro for making your fare way-affordable for students! Totally worth the cost. Quality and fresh ingredients and generous portions on each taco. Lime wedges are a nice touch. The tray of chips is overflowing and enough to group-share. The guac is house made (you can tell) and the salsa is pico de gallo style. They have other hot, medium and mild sauces they'll bring you upon request. Service: Amazing! :) Both times, our servers were on-it, polite and responsive. Our wait for food was minimal (though truthfully, both times we went during non rush). Centro ROCKS. Give them your business and tip your server generously - they're worth it and worth keeping them going! Hoping for huge success for Centro as the new school year begins and as small local businesses like Centro are coming out of the Covid shutdown.

My pupusas came with an excellent set of accompaniments and were bursting with flavor. The cheese was a bit on the salty side, but the beans were delicious, and the distinctive mix of textures you get when you combine a freshly grilled pupusa with the lightly fermented cabbage distinctive to the cuisine is excellent. There were some herbal notes in there, and the salsa was brightly flavored. It really is a fascinating mix of flavors distinctive to the Americas. Also a lot of food for the money. While the menu had a handful of vegetarian options, some of their staples were not offered this way and it seemed to be they could be with ease.
