This cute little eatery has been demanding my presence for quite a while. The Cabin Noodle Bar is nothing to look at from outside, whilst the inside is nothing to rave about either, other than its inviting simplicity.
What has confused me for a while before today are the two heavily contrasting menus in the window. One is straight from a Chinese takeaway, the other is a classical British greasy spoon menu.So what is Cabin Noodle Bar, a Chinese restaurant or a Greasy Spoon? Well you can have the best of both worlds here because they serve from both.
I ordered a deep fried chilli, mixed meat sweet and sour with rice and a bottle of iced tea. The above came to £9.60. My food arrived within ten minutes and I smiled as I watched the patrons around me eating their scrambled eggs on toast. The food had that homemade look and feel, and if I hadn't of known better I would of sworn I saw the odd jar of Uncle Bens sauce. Neither of my dishes had the usual MSG, greasy taste you normally get with Chinese food. I was impressed with Cabins unassuming yet enjoyable food and surroundings. I definitely did not expect the standard I received. Next time I go I will order from the British menu and see if it is on a par with what I had today.
I would recommend coming for brunch if you are in the area. read more
