I actually heard about this place, because of Samir S, a fellow Yelper. Samir sent me a compliment the other day, in which he urged me to try E Mono. Having followed his reviews for quite a while, I knew that I was onto something and in less than 24 hours I was at E Mono ordering a Turkish burrito or döner wrap...with me were three police officers from the nearby police station - all of whom seem to be regulars here. This is what I like about this place: - I received the warmest welcome. I don't think I've ever walked into a kebab/döner shop where someone greeted me with a smile! Amazing experience... - I love the simplicity of the menu: chicken, lamb, köfte, or shawarma in a wrap or in pita wrap. That's it - no endless studying of the menu. - The taste of the food...I ordered the chicken wrap and it was delightful. Juicy and tender meat, with fresh salads. - It's clean and the design of the store is very simple. Really - just a wonderful experience and recommendation!

In fact, I have never had a gyro pita sandwich of this catastrophic magnitude in the United States . The owner clearly is overcompensating for something. The owner should focus more on what matters : his product. He relies too heavily on what blessed his sorry falafel. smuch so, he thinks his food is good; rather realizing he got such a lucky break, I'd submit is undeserved. The gyro meat was grey and undercooked. Allegedly supposed to be lamb, but it tasted like vegan meat. Plus it had no flavor. The pita wasn't toasted properly, the veggie ingredients were tossed haphazardly on. Everything was super dry. Very little sauce or anything to help out the heap of mess. My friend ordered chips. It had a fly in it. Strong 1/5 . I struggle to find any redeeming value here other than something that is irrelevant to the product.

Yet trundling down Kentish Town Road today I noticed the swishiest, cleanest and most upmarket fried chicken shop I have ever seen. Take a bow Sam's. I almost wanted to smarten up my appearance to go in. Looking a little like a classic McDonalds establishment, it was light years away from the grotty, sticky outlets I frequent when I've only got £2.50 in my wallet. It is amazing how smart décor can affect the mindset of a customer. I convinced myself that fried chicken was suddenly healthy. All that saturated fat suddenly didn't matter. I had to purchase something. The shock factor continued. It was incredibly cheap. How about this? Two chicken fillet burgers, four pieces of chicken and two lots of fries for... (I must pause here for effect... Just a little more! All the above came to a credit crunch defying £5.99. AWESOME! This smart outlet, with ludicrously cheap prices, serving the same old stroke inducing but oh so good greasy chicken we all love, is a winner.

I believe there is always a place for this type of basic grub, and Sam's is one of the better examples. The shop itself is light, clean and modern and while the chicken won't win any awards, it is passable and ludicrously cheap. This is a great place to visit pre or post a gig at the HMV forum, or for when that post work drink turned into five. I have no doubt I'll be asking Sam to sort me out again very soon.

What's up with the Chinese food in this city?…read more In need for a good (Chinese) take-away in a 1-mile radius around my home, I've decided to try out one small business after the other: Jacks Kitchen was No.1 on my list, but as it turns out will not be the no.1 when it comes to good-tasting food! I have to say, the service at this little whole-in-the-wall in Tufnell Park was promisingly nice and very efficient. They accommodated mu special orders and finished my order quickly. However, the vegetables in my dish were not cooked through and overall the dishes were too oily (a very common deficiency in many Chinese take-away places!). Also, I had ordered the dumplings, which were supposed to be grilled, however, as it turns out, they just put them in the wok with a giant splash of oil...not so nice. Anyway, as much as I enjoyed the speedy and courteous experience. the overall result won't make me want to come back again...

But I thought sod it I'll give it a go. Well I'm glad I did. The guy on the phone was really friendly and delivery was only 20 mins. The food was good, by no way great but by far the best I've had around this area! Maybe I'm rating it a bit high but when your choices locally are so slim this is a diamond in the rough. I have always began my rating of how good a Chinese is by the standard of their hot and sour and jacks was delicious and nice and hot, not too much chicken skin you get in some nasty joints. The kung po chicken was nice and sticky with a lovely sweet but spicy glaze on it. And the egg fried rice wasn't bad either. Overall a pleasant meal and good value too. I will probably order again when my next craving takes hold. Also if I come out at tuffy park tube I will prob get some hot and sour to take home.

Poppies seemed like the perfect iconic choice with its old-school North London charm and 1940-50s repurposed memorabilia which feels like stepping back in time. The servers were attentive right from the start. We were pleasantly surprised when our food arrived quickly as everything was out within 10-minutes, piping hot and freshly cooked. My wife and I shared the classic cod fish and chips 4/5. The portion was decent, the fish was flaky inside with a nice crispy batter, and the chips were golden and tasty - nothing greasy, which was a plus. Loved the capped mini-cup of tartar sauce. This came with a side salad with crispy vegetables and creamy honey-mustard sauce. We stuck to the timeless Caramel Sticky Toffee Pudding (with a scoop of ice cream) smothered with warm sauce. The dollop of vanilla fused with the sponge cake & the buttery toffee sauce did it for us. Simple, comforting, and very British! Overall, Poppies delivered an authentic experience - great service, quick food, and that nostalgic atmosphere. We recommend it, especially if you're after a classic London chippy vibe without any fuss.

They even had signage around the outside of the restaurant flaunting how their fish & chips won awards. The service was decent here, but there was nothing super memorable about the service. Instead of just fish and chips, we decided to order and share the Seafood Platter so that we could sample other deep fried seafood items. Our overall impression of the seafood was the fact that it was rather bland. We had to use copious amounts of salt to add flavor to the deep fried foods. The fries were akin to 'steak fries' we have back at home in the states. We honestly had better quality fish & chips back at home. If this restaurant's fish & chips are supposed to be "award winning" in the UK, then it would not be a good sign for other restaurants around London.

We appease the little guy by giving him food. Every once in a while he gets stressed with life and stomps around the entire limbic system causing us confusion. This confusion leads to an unbearable longing to gorge ourselves on McDonalds. Fight it we may but eventually we succumb to the lure of the golden arches. We have all heard the stories, watched the film and felt sick after eating too many Big Macs, (four in one sitting is my record) but we still go back. McDonalds have stayed popular by opening trendy new stores (or renovating old ones), offering "healthy" salads that are dripping with dressing, and sponsoring health campaigns on TV. Try as they might with this push to be healthy, we see the truth and so do they. We want burgers and fried potato. We want Big Macs lathered in cheese, and fries floundering in salt. We have all complained about McDonalds at some point. I've made up stories that there meat is from green space whales reared on Mars. Yet the burger joint we love to hate is still going strong. My only gripe is that when I order a large portion of their lovely fries, I want my eyes to bulge at the sheer size of the offering. When I can clasp the paltry amount of skimpy, shaped potatoes in one hand, you are going to have a disappointed customer. McDonalds is never going to blow us away, but you always know what you are going to get.
