Note to self: Do not go to Cabela's on Crewsmas Eve sporting your yellow pants in preparation for Crew's 1st home game. I have never really been in a Cabela's before, so I guess I didnt' know what to expect? Lovely patrons there informed me this is a TIIINNNYYYY one. Well, if that is so... what is the point of one larger?! like... to showcase more dead animals on the wall? But I digress... As Luke T. mentioned, the archery was pretty nifty... the clientele was what was to be expected. Felt just like the home I moved away from. (for good reason, as this trip showed). They were already stocked low on the ammo my friend needed, but he says it's out everywhere, so I guess that's to be expected. Oh, and to mention the parking lot situation.... to exit is dreadful.... you have to do a complete u-Turn or go through Costco just to get back to the main highway / Polaris area. Bad, Cabelas...bad. I've been to other Cabela's and this so watered down--especially if you're a lady. It really seemed like there were more clothing options for toddlers and babies than us women!! I was more than a little irked by this BUT then I discovered they've sort of separated women's stuff...go check out the guys and you'll find something right next to it. Which is strange because ages ago we just bought guys things anyway (they didn't have many options). I just sort of wish it were in a centralized area. The staff is super knowledgeable. They aren't little assholes chasing you, either. I'm a huge fan of realtree so to see that they didn't get rid of that inventory for this location is a plus. They also didn't have a wide selection of Justin's boots. The other side of this is typical. Can't find it in stores? Order it online. I think the location makes sense. Right off 71. This place is COOL!!! (hands down) Reminds me of Bass Pro Shop we had in Oklahoma City. I agree with Luke T.'s comment "so gigantic!" It's a bit overwhelming as you walk through the door. Any type of outdoor sport or activity you're interested in....you can find whatever for whatever at this place! From guns, kayaks, safes, fishing, rock climbing (shall I continue?)....you can find it here. I went kind've late, just before closing time...so we had to peruse pretty quick. I did notice they also have a cafe there. Of course it was closed and I couldn't see exactly what they had. I'll find out next time I go. A very cool place! Very new. Lots of dead animals hanging on the walls and mounted everywhere. LOL. I'll certainly be back...even if only to kill time. read more

Cabela's is often not the cheapest option, true. But I have to say, there is something to be said for their huge selection. If I needed it NOW, I know I can come here and find what I need. I wanted a specific model of boots, and they simply were not available anywhere else locally. Cabela's had them, and the price was not outrageous. How many other places can you go in Columbus that have tree stands for hunting, kayaks, a huge selection firearms, every conceivable type of outdoor footwear, camping gear, fun stuff for the kids to do?.....the answer is none. Cabela's is not for the penny pincher, but the staff is well trained, and they have a giant selection of products that you can put your hands on in the store. read more

I've always enjoyed a trip to Cabela's. I've visited their locations all across the United States and I've always felt like I've been treated well no matter where I've been. I can't argue that their prices aren't the best and that much of their own branded merchandise isn't of the highest quality, but they usually have what I need without having to go an hour and a half north to the local gun shops that I've frequented my entire life. That did change after my most recent experience, though. I had some gift cards that I'd gotten from work, and I decided to treat myself to a new rifle. I placed my order online, paid in full online, and waited for the notification that my purchase was in-store for me to do the NICS check and take home. The rifle arrived at the store within the system's expected ship time of about a week, and as soon as I had a few minutes I stopped in to claim my order. They were so busy on that first afternoon that I left without completing the transaction. I didn't have the time to wait on the line that was already forming at the firearms checkout, no big deal. I returned the following morning to an already-full store and I waited for a while. No one even acknowledged me. I eventually asked one of the outfitters if I needed to take a number from the counter ticket dispenser even though I was just doing a pickup, he said that I did. The next ticket on the dispenser was about 10 numbers behind the one currently being served. I threw my ticket in a merchandise display and promptly left. The following morning was Sunday, and I was still mad. I went to the store at the stroke of 9am when the doors opened. By the time I got to the firearms counter, I was the 5th person in line. I stood there for 30 minutes while some guy was chatting with one outfitter, handling this rifle and that, showing the employee pictures on his phone, and ultimately walking out without buying a thing. One other employee began helping customers at once, while another had to call the manager to do some function with a sales terminal to allow her to get her workday started. Again, not a word in my direction or anyone else's. Finally, my number was called. I had printed out my invoice, which I presented to the employee who called my number. I told him that I was no longer interested in the rifle. He promptly called back the manager and did a return and refunded my payment with barely a word. I broke the silence by telling him that people who place orders online deserve an expedited checkout just like customers who buy non-firearm merchandise online. I said that taking a number and waiting for my turn among people who may or may not be there to decide if they're buying a gun today was just plain inappropriate. He replied that they have to see customers in the order that they come in. So Cabela's won't be seeing me as a customer from here on. In time, I may pick up a box of primers if I don't have the time to go out of town for them, but I will definitely never go through such inconvenience again to buy a gun when there are other local businesses to choose from. read more

I'm an avid outdoorsman. I spend almost every weekend between March and October outside backpacking, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, hunting, playing...whatever. I absolutely love going to Cabelas...but I hardly ever buy anything here because most things seem to be terribly overpriced unless it is set by the manufacturer. One of the few things I almost always get here are shoes....they have an amazing selection with one huge bonus. You can wear shoes up to 90 days and if they give you blisters, or any problems, they will take them back. Most other outdoor stores including my all time local favorite Outdoor Source, will not let you return shoes. So sorry, they and other businesses lose out to Cabelas for my shoe business. Nothing is worst than spending $120 on a new boot only to find it gives you bad blisters or the GoreTex leaks. However, everything else in the store seems to be overpriced by 30%. I like to frequent their bargain cave where you can get things for 50-70% off that has nothing wrong with it. They had a $600 wood pellet smoker that was $600 for $250 in there. It looked like someone used it once for a holiday and then returned it. You can get a folding chair at Walmart for $10. Same chair at Cabelas with their name on it....$20-29. Lodge Logic Cast Iron Grill...$60 on Amazon....$150 at Cabelas with in house branding. Even their shoes are like that. They have their own version of the Merrel Moab Ventilator Low Cut Boots which they sell for $80, their version, $120. My kids love seeing all of the big fish in the fish tank and I love just walking around to get ideas occasionally buying something that's not Cabela's branded. read more

Preface: I am not a hunter, camper, or fisherman. I came in here with my outdoorsman father-in-law. He loved this place as he was thinking of buying a new rifle so he became educated in the different guns. I on the other hand came in here to just see the place. Expensive, the prices for clothes are ridiculous. I saw t-shirts for $15 , shoes under $100 are rare, and everything seemed just exorbitantly high. Maybe I am just too frugal for this place but I know that the last time I went shopping for hunting supplies (15 years ago), that the prices weren't close to this. I used to work outside in the construction business and I always found quality shoes and boots for around $70. I couldn't find anything here for under $100 even in the bargain cave. They have some cool coats that I think I could of used when I worked outside but they were at least $40. Everything here just seems high. The place is cramped as the aisles have clearance racks in the middle which makes this place hard to walk around. I felt like I was always running into people. The store is not laid out very well. The bargain cave was an accident waiting to happen. A few people tried to take carts into this place which made it impossible to move. I was happy to get out of here. I will admit I felt out of place here as I am used to being around people of many cultures. I felt like this place was pretty mono cultural. The bathrooms were also pretty small and as busy as it was, uggh. The good: They have a few live fish in their fish tank which is great for kids. They have numerous stuffed animals around the place which is cool to see. They have knowledgable staff as the guy helping my father-in-law with the guns was very good. I only understand half of what he said since it was gun talk. They have some pretty cool camping supplies with small model tents to help one make an informed decision. I have been to the one in Wheeling and I enjoyed it there more than here. This building just seems too small and with it being new, that seems crazy. read more

It's much smaller than the Dundee, MI location that I've been visiting for years, and since they are virtually the same distance of travel I'll continue to visit the MI location since I can also hit up the Bass Pro Shop and Jann's Netcraft in Toledo, too. As far as the overall experience - it is a massive outdoor sporting goods superstore. If you like to do things outdoors than this is the place for you. read more

Stopped here to just walk around. Exterior: the exterior is beautiful to behold. The main entrance has a timbered appearance with large windows, which makes it appear as if it's a large log cabin. The parking lot is sufficiently large, though it can be packed on the weekends. I recommend visiting during the week and on non-holidays. I believe there is also parking on the north side for RVs and larger vehicles. Interior: awesome! As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with a huge fireplace with some comfortable chairs in front of it and a seated greeter at a podium. The store is divided into easy to recognize departments, so finding the items you seek are easy. You will find camping items, shoes/boots, outdoor cooking, fishing, boating, clothes, archery, knives, guns, indoor items, a bargain cave, and a cafe. I'm sure I missed something because there's so, so much! There's even a hill with various stuffed animals, aquarium, and interactive learning devices for the children in all of us! The aisles are large and easy to maneuver no matter what section you happen to be in. NOTE: it is almost impossible to get cell service in this store (I have both Verizon and AT&T) so if you want to share anything with friends or family, you'll have to wait until you get outside. Staff: the associates have always been friendly and helpful. I usually know what I want when I go there so I don't usually need assistance, but when I do they are great! I needed some arrows for my recurve bow, so they took the time to measure my draw, found the tips I needed, cut the arrows down and took care of the inserts. At the time I purchased them, they didn't have anyone on staff that could put feathers on, but the associate said they would in the future. Inventory: unbelievably wide range of items! Some items are far more expensive than at other places, but the quality has been outstanding and they've lasted longer than similar less expensive versions. Rewards: make sure to sign up for their rewards program. For every purchase, a certain percentage is rewarded as a cash amount on your card. If you decide to use it, that amount is deducted from the total. With the amount of items we purchase from here, it is definitely worth it! Overall, this is a great place to shop or just walk around. We find ourselves just stopping in when we want to walk off dinner and it's very hard not to buy something when we go because we always find something we could use for our next camping trip. read more

We did buy camping stuff and decided to return since I planned changed. Everything was in their original packaging and we did have the credit card we paid with, but we couldn't find the receipt. The person working in the customer service was incompetent and rude. We gave her all our credit cards to check, but she couldn't find our purchase. She was avoiding the return until a manager intervened and accepted the return and gave us store credit. They told us that they only accept return with receipt. They better to learn from Lowe's and others how to use the technology. They also need a better training for their workers. read more

How it wish it was bigger but beggars can't be choosers. I am very disappointed with how small the kids and women's clothing sections are. They kind of combine into one and there's barely anything for kids under a year old. But will say they have pretty good instore promos on the weekends. We stopped by on "Ladies Day" not only did I get an awesome purple cup but a coupon for additional 25% off your purchase. It saved us a ton off my husbands gun and hunting gear purchase. read more

My husband and I came in to purchase two guns last week and were told that it would take a few days to complete the background check. On Friday we received a phone call telling us we were good to go, and that we could come back to pick up the guns at our convenience. Today (2 days after the call) we decided to drive the 2 hours it takes us to get to the store (and back) only to be told that we have to start the process all over again, because our information was never called in or processed, therefore could not have been confirmed. The associate helping us was nice, but we don't appreciate our time being wasted like that. We'll be going elsewhere from now on for our outdoor purchases. read more

This goes back several years ago (before I began using yelp). I bought a pair of leather boots that were made by Meindl (a German company I believe) for Cabela's. I inquired about the warranty as these were normally $200 boots marked down to $149.99. The salesman said they had a lifetime warranty and to bring them back if I were ever dissatisfied with them. About a year or so later some of the stitching holding the leather panels together broke which resulted in an opening that let dirt and water inside the boot. I took them back and asked for them to be fixed. The salesman (a different one) showed me the warranty on the back of my receipt which said "Cabela's Footwear and Clothing: Is guaranteed for the lifetime of the product under normal wear and tear and defects in workmanship." The employee agreed that the stitching breaking was a defect in workmanship but, because the other boot had a scuff in the leather that I had abused the boots and nothing would be done. I asked and waited for a manager to show up and he said the same thing as the salesperson. I said only want the the agreed upon defective boot repaired and they said they couldn't do that. They could only ship both boots back to manufacturer for replacement and that the scuffing of leather on the good boot nullified the warranty as this constituted abuse. I argued this is consistent with normal wear and tear for a work boot to no avail. I was so angry with them that I broke in half my Cabela's visa card in front of them and have never gone back to their store. I had bought 3 or 4 other pairs of shoes there in the prior year, but their management offered no solution to keep my business. From my point of view don't buy from Cabela's and don't buy MEINDL boots! read more

Every time I come here I start singing that one Nitzer Ebb song; you know the one. "Guns, guns, guns, guns, fire, fire, fire, fire..." By the time I get to the gun section I'm usually at the "Muscle and hate" part. That is the part of the trip that I enjoy the most: looking at row upon row of guns while singing "muscle and hate" under my breath. My kids actually like this place because of all the stuffed animals (not that kind) and the aquariums, so there you go. I rarely buy anything, because I just don't need anything they sell here, but I suppose that isn't their fault. Planned on purchasing new gun from Field and Stream across the street, but guys were too busy talking to a friend and not doing their job, so after 45 minutes I headed to Cabela's. I'm glad I did! Bill at the gun counter approached within a minute asking if I needed help. Told him what I wanted, and within 5 minutes I was headed to check-out. Awesome guy. Check-out went smooth with background check back in 5 minutes. Longest delay was serial number checks every step of the way, which I'm fine with. There was no problem matching F&S advertised price, and getting an extra $20 off for opening a Cabela's charge was fine with me, since I was going to pay with my debit card anyway. I have no intentions of shopping any place else. Great job!! read more

When it comes to camping selection I was [pretty happy with the selection and variety. The store was just big enough that I felt I could find what I needed but not get totally lost. If I could rate this store on service alone, I would give this one star. I had called in advance to see if they carried a particular magazine for my pistol. I was told there were several in stock. The next day I drove from the opposite side of Columbus to purchase this item that was suposed to be in stock. When I arived I learned that the store does not even carry the magazine, not that they were out but that they do not even stock the item in their store. When there was no free employees roaming the isles in sight to ask about this mix up, I turned and asked free gentleman behind the firearms counter (4ft away) I was met with the responce "that is not my department." In my opinion if its not within your knowledge to answer my question, you should atleast be an outlet to somone who will attempt to. It's the effort that counts. To keep this short. If you are the occasional camper or even a regular at camping and know what you want and are looking for, this is the perfect store to check first. If you are a hunter, in need of a firearm, or just have some technical questions this is the last place you should go. Stars state it perfect. I recently was given a compound bow as a Christmas gift that was purchased at Cabela's. I don't hunt and have never shot a bow before so I felt really out of my league when I walked into Cabela's with the new gift still in the package. It was very crowded but it was the day after Christmas so my fault there. Besides the wait, I had a great experience! The staff was amazing they got my bow all set up and taught me how to use it. They were very patient and friendly and made me feel at home. (Thanks Brett) Selection is nothing without service and everyone in the store was more than helpful. Very exceptional. They had some great deals and online coupons for in store purchases that saved me some money too. Definately recommend this store for your hunting or in my case target shooting needs! read more

WARRANTY FRAUD. BUYER BEWARE. HYPOCRISY AT GEMINI STORE. Had an awful experience at Cabela's on Gemini place. Went in for a warranty return on a pair of Cabela's brand boots I purchased in November 2018 because the insides were ripping out. After waiting for some time at the returns desk I was finally helped by Jaclyn. I explained to her that I was here to exchange my current boots for a new pair of the same Cabela's boots in store due to the insides ripping out. (I have owned these boots for less than a year) I also showed her the original receipt from when I originally purchased the boots with a store credit due to another defect (insides ripping out). Jaclyn replied rudely to me and said I was crazy to even think I would get one cent for my return. (Granted the boots had normal wear and tear)I asked her about Cabela's lifetime warranty and how the boots should be covered as they are less than a year old. She shook her head and said, "no, you're wrong, these boots are not covered." She proceeded to interrupt me as I showed her the lifetime warranty policy on the back of the receipt and told her that I had even been here before and received store credit for a previous pair of boots I purchased from that same store. I asked Jaclyn if she could get the manager over so I could speak to him and she replied mockingly, "I guess." After speaking to the manager he only agreed to give me 50% off the price of the replacement pair and denied the validity of my previous transaction where I had used the lifetime warranty policy to receive store credit based on the shelf value of the boots ($80). I was not impressed by the rude and dishonest manor I was treated by Jaclyn and the manager. I will not be purchasing any future boots from this store in the future. read more

Definitely been a fan of Cabelas Columbus since it opened (I generally shop there 2x amonth) and have shopped Cabelas for many years in Wheeling and Dundee, but I am sickened by the recent service at the store. Ever since the announcement of the merger with Bass Pro,the Columbus store seems to be losing the really knowledgeable sales clerks. It may also be that the store is trying to cut back on the labor to inflate the profit numbers. Doesn't matter either way. Just trying to get help to answer a question, buy a gun or check out is a nightmare. Super long lines at checkouts, 2+ hour waits to buy a gun (On a Thursday no less!!!!) are unacceptable for long time customers. I can imagine a first timer to the store would think its nothing special since the recent service I have recieved ranks below Walmart and Dollar General stores. I hope my experiences recently are the exception since the first of the year, however after 5 visits none have been satisfactory. Great selection, good prices and good inventory only do so much when there is bad service and customer care. read more

I've grown beyond Cabelas. We have more options in Columbus now and it's time we all move on. Field and Stream, Dicks and Outdoor Source are closer and have better stuff with a smart staff. The selection is wide here but the staff is not very knowledgable about most things. The bargain cave is not much to talk about, cell phones do not work inside and much of the clothing is overpriced. Folks at the credit card operation are very rude and not helpful. I cancelled my Visa and don't really miss it. My real problem is the cheap, knock off stuff of low quality. They don't really seem to come up with any new, cool stuff on their own. Cabela's has a model that copies from other more innovative companies (particularly in camping gear) and then makes their own version in China for about the same price with 1/3 of the quality, I deserve better and I've decided to stop shopping here. read more

Well this is the giant hunting/camping/gun stuff store. Definitely geared towards men. The hubby wanted to look at camping/gun stuff so I wandered on down to the running shoes and the women's selection was a might small. I only wear Saucony so I was disappointed in the only 2 styles and no sales selection for that brand. The men's shoe department is much larger, for everything. So basically a dude store. Nice restrooms, a little waiting area with a fireplace (gas), a little cafe but basically a no go for women- unless you are large enough to wear men's stuff and want to. If you are a guy and don't mind paying full retail for this kind of stuff (except for that clearance room) then I guess it's ok. Hubby couldn't find the gloves he wanted in his size though so maybe only for big guys too. Weird exchange at the register (hubby bought some small thing, I cannot remember what) with the cashier saying "God Bless you" at the end of the transaction. Can't see us going back for any reason. read more

I was interested in buying an item that happened to be out of stock in this store and the staff said they were not able to call and check the Dundee store to see if they had the item in stock at that location before I made the long drive to that store. So I go here yesterday with $1000 to buy a Kimber Ultra Carry II, ammunition and a holster. There is only one sales person working the counter and one customer he is helping. I waited at the counter for 30 minutes. I was never acknowledged nor did the sales person attempt to get anyone else to help at the counter. So, I left, drove across the street to Field and Stream and got the gun $50 cheaper than Cabela's and was waited on immediately. I spent $937 at Field and Stream solely because Cabela's had no customer service. read more

I ordered a backpack from their website. I had a trip plan for the following month. I was checking the shipping status of the item and it said my order was cancelled. When I called they said my order was cancelled because the item was out of stock. As I was on the phone with customer service I got back on the website and the item was still there and still in stock per the website but apparently they just left it there and confirmed it was out of stock and would not be restocked. THEY MADE NO ATTEMPT TO CONTACT ME TO TELL ME THEY CANCELLED MY ORDER and THEY STILL CHARGED MY CC. WTF! I have spent thousands of dollars at Cabelas over the past decade, they will never get another cent from me. read more

I went when they first open a year ago and though it was cool but after that not so much there guns are over priced even went the government isn't trying to take them and on older used guns there over priced with the so call library of guns. Even the most common guns they are even over priced there staff in the gun department are not very friendly and not very gun savvy they go with what the packing say and don't take the time to take apart what they sale to know more about it or do the research they tell you want you want to hear to make the sale. and the don't know the laws very well I buy a ruger 10/22 and the guy doesn't think I can own it because it 22lr and they put gock 33 round mag on the sales floor win in Ohio you can only have 30 round mags so that is sad they don't know the laws and they can sell guns read more

Shows store hours as Today 10:00 am - 8:00 pm. We drove 40 miles and arrived at 6:05 pm and they were CLOSED! Had one small piece of paper taped to the front glass (not even near the doors) that stated as of Jan 4, 2015 they will close at 6:00 pm on Sundays. If they are that LAZY to not change their times on the web site, they don't deserve my business! I went to Cabela's to buy a pistol-a 9 mm Sig Sauer P320 on sale which they had displayed prominently in their newspaper add. I went on Wednesday in the morning to avoid the crowds that are there on the weekends.I found the pistol display and was told I had to take a ticket which I did. So I waited. There were only bout 5-7 people waiting around but there was only 1 guy waiting on people for the entire length of the counter. So I waited and waited. I waited 1 1/2 hours for service. I showed the add and said I want to see this pistol to buy. He couldn't find it. If fact he couldn't find any Sig Sauer in the display case. So he talked to his manager in the back. He came out and looked it up on line and read info on the pistol. He went back to his manager. He came back and tried to order it on line. The web site wouldn't let him do that. He went to his manager & came back. He tried to order online again. and couldn't. He then found out that the P320 was pulled from the web site and no further sales were allowed. I asked when he thought he might get the pistol back in and was told 6-8 weeks. That seemed like a long time but I wanted that pistol. I asked for a rain check and was told that when the P320 come back I will pay whatever the price is then so no rain check. So the net of my first visit to Cabela's- 2+ hours wasted with nothing to show and knowing that Cabela's is only interested in the almighty dollar and doesn't give a crap about customer service. read more

I've been a Cabela's fan for years. Spent lots of money, been to stores all over the country including the original in Sydney, NE. I have the black level credit card. Hell, I've got family that works for these guys. I mean I am all in with Cabela's. But now I have a problem. I have noticed a significant decline in their customer service over the past couple of years, especially at the Columbus store. It's like they are doing me a favor just talking to me. Not all of them mind you...some of these folks will bend over backwards to make their customers happy. Unfortunately they are in the minority these days. So I walk into the store the other day and I am looking at the knives (I've got a thing for knives...can't walk past the knife counter without stopping to take a look). Anyway I spot this cool little CASE stockman and I kinda want to have a look. There's five Cabela's guys (I counted 'em) hanging around the knife counter having a really nice conversation. There's one other guy actually doing some work helping a customer with another knife. Do ya think just one of 'em could be bothered to come over and help me out? Nope...not one of 'em. That was pretty much the last straw for me. There are a lot of folks around the Columbus area competing for my disposable income so I really don't have to put up with that kind of lousy service from the folks at Cabela's. I'm not likely to be back any time soon and I think I'll get rid of the credit card too. Won't be needing those points any more. read more
