In Plymouth, Massachusetts, after admiring the famous rock (that may or may not have been stepped on by the Pilgrims as they disembarked from the Mayflower...honestly, that's what the tour guide said), we were on the search for some good eats. The Cabby Shack was recommended by the Tourist Center and it was only a short walk from said rock. That must have been lucky for the Pilgrims, too. They had to have been famished after that long voyage. So, in the spirit of the first settlers, and eager for lobster roll, we strolled on over. Overlooking Plymouth Harbor, The Cabby Shack offers outdoor on-deck seating or an indoor dining room. Since the wait for an outside table was over 45 minutes when we arrived, we opted for the dining room. Although next to the bar area, the dining room seemed nice and fairly quiet, with standard 80's soft rock playing overhead at a reasonable volume. But...within minutes...the live band outside on the deck started competing with the radio inside in the dining room - and the cacophony of dueling tunes quickly became maddening. Low blood sugar makes us cranky. Very, very cranky. Dear Cabby Shack management: Please, for the love of humanity, turn off the damned piped-in radio inside when you have live music playing outside. Your patrons will be grateful...and far less cranky. Unfortunately for us, we were also disappointed when the waitress told us (loudly...so we could hear her) that their lobster roll was pre-made and therefore not available without mayonnaise (Okay, she probably didn't say "therefore," but who could tell over the din?). We prefer our lobster roll straight, á la Abbott's in Noank, Connecticut or Robert's Maine Grill in Kittery, Maine. And, although she offered to ask if the kitchen staff would be able to make a lobster roll without the mayo, she didn't appear hopeful. We declined...being far too hungry at that point to wait for someone to go out and catch a fresh lobster. What? Was the alternative to wipe off the mayo from the pre-made lobster roll??? We ultimately decided to go with the Wicked Tuna and the Ginger Salmon-sation burgers with plans to each share half and they turned out to be excellent choices! The Wicked Tuna burger was topped with cucumber wasabi and wakame (seaweed salad) and was cooked perfectly medium-well. The Ginger Salmon-sation burger, with ginger, cilantro, and green onions was just that...absolutely sensational. The accompanying sweet potato fries were average as far as sweet potato fries go. You know what we would like to see? Sweet potato fry wedges offered on a menu instead of the usual stringy, greasy orange spuds. Don't great, big sweet potato wedges, sprinkled with fresh cracked pepper and sea salt on top sound absolutely delicious? How about getting on that after you turn down the music, Cabby Shack? Just remember whose idea it was. We'll be back, you know. Make plans to visit The Cabby Shack to enjoy their wicked good seafood burgahs, or their famous lobster roll if you are a mayo-fan. Don't forget to bring earplugs. And, send us a picture of your face in the giant lobster, will ya? Just don't bother to send us pictures of the rock. Holiday Friday night! What a show! Lines and lines of folks with starving kiddos, cranky grannies, and distracted parents - put down those phones and watch your little ones!!! Harried wait staff doing the best they could. Tables sat unbussed for an average of 15/20 minutes while folks were waiting in all available floor space, wait staff running around with huge trays of drinks and food and kids roaming underfoot! Food was average, drinks ok but the noise level was through the roof. If your looking for a loud, busy place for drinks in plastic and an average beach bite then this is your place. They are great under normal circumstances, but above and beyond during COVID 19 with their take out. I have had my heart set on fried clam bellies for my birthday weekend for weeks. My fiance and I ordered some for curbside takeout. Not 2 minutes after we picked up did we get a call from a lovely lady who works there telling us they gave us strips by mistake and we should come back to pick up the right order. Wow. That's all I have to say. I do not think I have ever experienced such poor service and unprofessionalism. I just left this restaurant with a party of six, and all of us are upset with both the server and the management. It all started while we were waiting to be seated, so we should have known what we were in for. When we arrived, we were told that there was a table for us and that it just had to be cleared. Okay, that should have been fine....until the woman clearing it took almost fifteen minutes to do so. This wouldn't have been an issue, but we could plainly see her waltzing around and clearing off other tables that didn't even have patrons waiting for them. We finally get seated, only to discover a mysterious green ooze smeared across the tabletop. Since no one was in sight, we had to clean the stuff ourselves with some wet naps. Eew. But then the real fun began. Our waiter took about ten minutes to notice we existed and come take our orders. We get our food orders in and start to wait. And wait. And wait. Half an hour goes by, still no food. By this time, we've all finished our waters and are trying to make awkward eye contact with our waiter to get him to come back. However, by this time a table full of people that were friends with what seems like all the servers had been seated, so all of the employees' attention was being showered on them. Ten more minutes go by (we still have no water) and finally half the food shows up. Two people ordered caesar salads with scallops and steak tips, one guy ordered the same thing but as a wrap, I had the baked haddock, one girl got clam strips, and my boyfriend had some salmon salad. We had no silverware, and the waiter said "ugh...you should have that" really rudely. My buddy's wrap was made into a salad, so the waiter took it to be fixed. We finally get to ask for waters and tarter sauce, and settle down to wait. The wrap and silverware comes several minutes later, but we have to ask for drinks again. At this point we have been here for over an hour and are starving, so we start to eat even though we have no drinks. The scallops were drastically undercooked, to the point that you could tell just by looking at them. The waiter finally comes back with water and we explained our concern, so he promises to get the manager. This seems okay so once again, we settle down to wait. Ten minutes later, we notice the manager sitting at a table behind us, arguing with the server about how she doesn't want to talk to us. WHAT. Six unhappy customers and you can't be bothered to come over? She finally makes it over to our table, argues with us about the scallops, trying to make the point that "that's how we do them here." We protest, and finally agrees to take the scallops off our bill. We finish our food and the bill comes. A 20% gratuity was included....and the waiter had the balls to point out the fact that it was. And the sketchy part? The gratuity was based on the full bill before the discount!! Shady business practices. I would never, ever, ever go here again. The food was ok, but the nasty attitudes of the staff and management were just inexcusable. Avoid at all costs. read more

ok i guess there's 2 cabbyshack yelp pages so i'll post my review on here too. It was a nice night last night, so my boyfriend and I took a motorcycle ride down to Plymouth. We were going to eat at Wood's, but after hearing about the Cabbyshack for so long...we decided to try it because we had never been there. We wanted to sit on the deck. but it looked like it was about to rain so we opted for inside. The hostess sits us "someplace less noisy," and then 2 minutes later, we hear the screaming kid at the table across from us. Waitress comes over with menus a couple minutes later and takes our drink order. I'm trying to decide on what I want for dinner...then I notice the specials listed on the chalkboard with no description or price....but where was our specials menu? Had to ask for it. I sucked my drink down in about 4 minutes. It tasted like there was a drop of Bacardi in it. EHH. We each order a cup of chowder. he got a burger, and i got a fish reuben from the specials menu. The chowder comes and it was really good (the only redeeming quality). My drink was empty not even halfway into my chowder. The waitress walked by a couple times not even acknowledging it. She picks up my boyfriend's empty chowder cup, looks at my empty drink and walks away. I kept sliding it closer and closer to the edge of the table. I was being lenient here as I am a bartender. If i was a normal patron I would have been goin bonkers. Finally as she walks by for the 10th time I ask, "Can i get a drink?" So my boyfriend and i order a beer (there's no way i am having another weak drink). She comes back sometime later with only his beer and someones else's drink and i could tell from the expression on her face that she forgot my beer....and she says, "uhh yeah. I don't know why your beer wasn't on the bar. i'll go find it." YEAH RIGHT. so we're waiting for our food.........a couple sits down at the table next to us and orders their food (about 15-20 minutes after we did). so we're waiting....and waiting..... finally my boyfriend (who never ever complains) is like " jesus christ it's taking a long time for 2 friggin sandwiches." then we wait 5 more minutes and he says "ok a few more minutes and we're outta here." it's literally been over a half hour since we ordered our 2 sandwiches. THEN, the people next to us, who ordered their meals (yes meals, not sandwiches) AFTER us get their meals BEFORE us. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? then our sandwiches come out about 30 seconds later....by the hostess. by this time i'm not even hungry and my blood is starting to boil. the waitress is pretty much at every other table besides ours. she KNOWS she messed up, but did not even offer us an apology. i wanted to go apewild, but i didn't want to ruin my dinner date. the hostess could tell we were irked and asks "is everything ok here?" i said, with a "look", "its alright." ding ding ding! i'm not gonna make a scene, but take a hint and send over your supervisor for christ sake. we eat like half of our stuff (cuz we weren't hungry anymore) and ask for the check. the waitress acted like nothing happened. yeah, i'll tell ya what happened, kid. you forgot to put our food in!! p.s. my boyfriend's burger was $10.25 and it came with CHIPS (although now that i look at their website, it's listed as $9.25). for what you get, their food is overpriced as well as their drinks. i won't be rushing back here anytime soon, i'll tell ya that!!!! shoulda listened to my dear ol' dad (and to my first instinct) and ate at Woods! oh well, i guess this was a $60 learning lesson. and i'll be giving them some feedback on their website. read more

Avoid this place at all costs. I went here on Saturday with my boyfriend and his friend. The person we went with is a diabetic so he brought his own diet mt dew because all they had was diet Pepsi. They said he could not bring any outside food or beverages on the patio. However he has his medical card that proves he is a diabetic. I understand they do not want any alcohol on the premises but if she even took the time to smell the drink she could tell that there was no alcohol in the bottle. We asked the manager to come over, and when she did she was the most rude foul will human being I have ever interacted with. We got up to leave because we didn't want anymore of her drama. And they're going to go to a place that was much more accepting. This server brought over our friends beverage that she had taken away. And the manager snatched it out of his hands like grabbed it and he would not let go. So the manager bought with him over the bottle. What is this preschool? You can just give him his stupid bottle? We are on our way ouch for Christ's sake. Long story short if you have any kind of problem with your diet do not go here. Avoid. At. All. Costs. There are so so many PHENOMENAL places in Plymouth. Don't settle for a tacky environment, rude employees and mediocre food. We ended up going to the waterfront bar and grill just down the street. It was packed but our waiter was funny and brightened our moods! Not only that but the food was good and didn't take A MILLION years to come out. read more

Lets say I am only giving 1 star because they don't allow zero! I went here two nights in a row. The first night we went and it wasn't too good but was descent. The atmosphere is cute shack inside and the one of the bartenders made a descent drink. Then for my second drink it was awful!! The bartender came up with a creation that made me worried if he ever was trained. I stopped on the way out to get a souvenir penny and I get yelled at by the bouncer because I wasn't leaving fast enough. The ONLY reason we went back the second night is because we were part of a wedding party and the place was preselected for an after party. The experience was terrible. A friend was ignored purposely by the bartender and when they were called out for it a regular felt the right thing was to pour a beer on him. Which then splashed and got all over the brides wedding dress. No one took any responsibly or apologized. The friend who had beer poured on him was escorted out. Then it only got worse. Another friend asked to speak to management about the incident and he to was spoken to rudely and told to leave. The bouncer forcefully kicked out this friend. I was helping us all leave and was shoved by the bouncer TWICE. As a female to be shoved for any reason, especially when I am not involved is beyond unacceptable. When I politely told the bouncer he shoved me in case he didn't know he replied "I don't f*ing care. Go get some education". I have a masters degree so I think I have the education to know the way this bar was handled/managed this weekend was terrible. Lastly, I saw they were on food network for great clam chowder. And I was disappointed saying I didn't want to go back and would miss out. Many friends who had gone for lunch earlier said it was too salty to even enjoy. read more

On a recommendation we came here for lunch with the family. 6 adults and 2 babies. We were seated quickly and seemed to just beat the lunch crowd. Our server was nice and recommended the clam chowdah and it was reaaaaalllly goooood. And then we waited. And waited. Waited. And waited some more. We watched in hunger as several tables seated after us received their food. Our server never came to check in us and when she did she seemed surprised we were still waiting to eat. I had to take our baby out of restaurant as she had already finished her meal and was growing as impatient as we were for us adults to eat. When our food did come, I enjoyed my blackened salmon salad and hubby liked the lobster salad, but we were getting a bad taste about the ease of our dishes and how long it took to receive them. After our meal our server apologized profusely and insisted she entered our order in a timely manner. The manager was less than apologetic to say the least. She couldn't have given two crabs about our dissatisfaction and informed us "well we're really busy...." to which I pointed out tables seated after us received their food before we did. To which SHE responded "Well we have three stations in the kitchen and some stations take longer... like if you get something fried..." I pointed out we all had sandwiches or salads. She clearly pointed out we sucked for complaining by comping an entire $6.50 off our $162 bill. The food may be ok, but the service was subpar and the management is HORRIBLE. With so many eateries to choose from it would serve them to better service their guests. I'd say 1.5 stars is being generous. read more

More like Crappy Shack. My fiance and I decided to go there for dinner on a Sunday night. Mind you, to try to "beat" the dinner crowd, we went at around 6:30pm. There were plenty of empty tables around and thought oh there shouldn't be a wait. WRONG. The hostess told us it would be a 25 minute wait for a table for 2, when there are clearly 6 open tables. Anyways, 20 minutes later we were seated, right by the door, with the sun right in my eyes. lovely. The table was kind of still wet, maybe they tried to wipe stuff down but not completely... We had to clean it off with tissues that we got. The waitress came and took our drink orders, answered some questions we had on the menu, and then we put in our food order right away. Man were we glad we did. It took 10 minutes until she came back with anything to drink. We ordered the Sunday special one dozen Cherrystones on half shells for $16, I ordered a surf and turf caesar salad with dressing on the side, my fiance got the captain's platter with haddock, scallops and whole clams. Our drinks came a few minutes before our appetizer came. The cherrystones were ok, I've definitely had better. The sizes were inconsistent - some were bigger than others. There were a few I bit into rocks and sand... gross. Then our entree showed up 10 minutes later - for $26 fried captains platter, their portion is definitely skimpy. At our usual seafood joint, a platter like this cost $26 but you get 4 choices, plus plenty of fries and cole slaw. My fiance liked it despite the small portions, it's pretty hard to screw up fried foods. My surf and turf salad was terrible. It looked so unappetizing. First of all, they DIDN'T put the dressing on the side. My salad looked like 3 giant pieces of steak tips, 6 pieces of burnt scallops drenched in creamy caesar dressing on top of a bed of gross looking romaine lettuce. I am not exaggerating, but I lost my appetite. I know the menu said it was "blackened" scallops, but I taste more burnt than anything. The steak tips were ok, but the dish presentation was just not ok. I cannot eat that much salad dressing!!! The waitress did not come back ONCE to ask us how our meal was, NO DRINK REFILLS. She literally dropped off our food and did not show her face until time for the bill. i didn't even get a chance to telll her the dressing wasn't on the side. i barely ate my salad because it was so gross. Also, what is it with loud crying children?? I looked around the place, every other table has a baby carrier and/or toddlers. It went from a peaceful quiet restaurant, to loud, crying coming from every corner of the restaurant. Don't get me wrong, I am not against people having a family night out with their kids, but I have NEVER seen that many kids at a restaurant, all crying one after another. Really - you can do SO much better than this place! Keep looking and walk on by the Cabby Shack. We ate there based on Yelp recommendations and were extremely disappointed. Going in, we expected it to be a bit like the Joe's Crab Shack-type restaurants, but it is sorely lacking. The wait on a Friday night wasn't too bad, but the food was expensive (more than $80 with 1 shared bowl of chowder, 1 lobster roll, 1 scallop entree, 1 kid's meal + drink, plus 2 beers, tax and tip) and mediocre... maybe worse (NOT a good combination). I was promised by my server that the lobster roll would be fabulous; it was very, VERY ho-hum. My husband had the scallops (which he loves), but they were completely overpowered by the red peppers that the cook put in the dish. I would never go back. Really - keep looking. Despite a prime location right on Plymouth's town wharf, two stories of massive decks each with it's own bar, and pretty decent food, Cabby Shack's Jekyll and Hyde personality makes it almost impossible for me to recommend it with a straight face. Let me start from the beginning. On a warm summer afternoon, most certainly stop at Cabby's. The large deck area will ensure that you get an outside table, and although the view is more of the parking lot than it is of the water, you're still close enough to get the intended ambiance. Beverage in hand (they make really good bahama mamas), feel free to peruse the mostly seafood based menu. Seriously, the food is pretty good here. The calamari is served with a wonderfully spicy remoulade, the lobster traps are a crunchy, cheesy, quesadilla like delight, the blackened scallop salad is the perfect balance of spicy goodness and healthy greens, and I certainly cannot find fault with their fried clams. The plastic drink cups, the warm salty sea breeze, the tasty nosh, and the bright colors of the staff's laid back uniforms will all come together to make you feel like you're on vacation. Summer lovin' indeed. But then night falls. And this seemingly laid back island themed bar becomes a scene straight out of a horror movie, namely I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (yup, it's so bad it's like a horror movie SEQUEL). The bouncers (yup, bouncers) will make you form a line (I told you it was bad). Then they'll slowly go over your ID (even though you went to high school with him and he knows exactly who you are). Alas, you're valid, so his moment of power is over, and you are now free to move into the crowded bar. Oh wait, not so fast! Your friend, who has a passport as a form of ID, will be informed that the passport is not a valid ID for this bar. Yes, you can travel internationally with it, but you cannot get a drink at the Cabby Shack. They have standards you know. Lest you think the tale ends there, let me remind you that the bouncer has a boss. Boss bouncer will eventually accept the passport as a form of ID (I'm sure the American embassy thanks him for that), and you'll finally be in. Wait. Did we just stand in line so we could be surrounded by mini skirts and Uggs? Is that man wearing sunglasses? At 11 pm? ARE THOSE MANPRIS????? Jennifer Love Hewitt thought she had it bad. And then you have to wait for an hour to get it. And to snack on, while you wait for that hour, you get... NOTHING. This is the third, and last, time that this has happened to me here. Always loved this place... great view and atmosphere on the Plymouth waterfront..was always reasonably priced for us locals that don't want to get soaked by tourist prices...well it appears the Cabby has sold out the locals for tourists....just last year 1/2 dozen oysters were $10.95...then rose to $13.95...now $15.95!!!...so I passed on the oysters which I never do and just had clam roll for $15.95 had to pay an extra $1.50 to substitute fries for chips...wife had Shrimp Scampi for $17 something and had to pay $2.99 extra for a salad....since when does an entree not come with a salad?.... anyway 2 beers an app, tip and a wine later...I just spent $100 bucks for a "PRETTY"good meal...not spectacular....good luck to Cabby when the tourists leave because I won't be back EVAH!!!!! read more
