After having dinner at a nearby restaurant, we stopped by this place for round 2. We ordered some drinks, beers, ceviche, 2 lobsters, shrimp, and a tiradito dish. The wait was very long to get our food. It was nice to much on complimentary chips and salsa while we were waiting. Although the food was nicely presented, the food was not as fresh as the other place and not as flavorful either. The service was not very great, but atmosphere was pretty cool. I did enjoy our refreshing drinks though. I think this place is better for drinks and hanging out, not so much as a restaurant. read more

This restaurant must be relatively new, but I give it 5 stars and I think its the best spot on Zicatela Beach, but I'm not an Escondido expert. I've only been there twice and to be honest, I liked Canabrava so much, I went there for 3 great dinners and for a beatiful breakfast on the porch every morning. The service was not the greatest, but the food was great. We tried most of the entree items and everything was really tasty. I would recommend the catch of the day, which is usually - fresh Mahi Mahi. The steak and grilled dishes were great. The beers and mezcal flowed here, but it was always difficult to get our waiters attention. It is such a liesurely atmosphere in Escondido - it's hard to get too impatient when you're in paradise and the waves are crashing 200 yards from the restaurant. Try to get reservations and request a beachside table - these are preferred. I think the breakfasts here are also very nice. My friends had beautiful dishes, I prefer only coffee with the wonderful Pistachio mezcal crema (be sure to buy some bottles of this!!). I always snuck in a small bottle and had an excpetional pistachio coffee every morning to start the day - so damn good! I'm sure there are many, many great restaurants in Escondido, but for proximity to Zicatela, relaxing atmosphere, beach and great food - I highly recommend this spot and I will go there again on my next Escondido adventure. read more

Every time in the past year I walked past the new construction & building of the new Canabrava on the beach I was dying for them to open. I was so excited to see it finished so I could finally go & hang out there. Now that it's open, it's very beautiful, the most attractive beach side tiki bar on Zicatela beach, but sadly it has the worst service. The same business as Bungalows Zicatela serving the same menu as Bungalows Zicatela but has the worst service. I have now reverted back to the hotel bar across the street bc the service is better there, the food is better there & the drinks are better there. The only thing you are getting better at CanaBrava is the view & that it sits right on the beach with beachside service. Or their version of "service" rather. The bathrooms are very nice & clean. It's a very cool set up bc it's a brand new tropical wood palapa bar tiki looking building. The furniture is very comfortable & the best place to watch the sunset on Zicatela beach. However, the waitstaff keeps turning over like a human rotisserie, chewing them up & spitting them out. The American girl from Iowa was the best & they got rid of her for who knows why?? She was the best server! It all went down hill after that. The French girl couldn't count money or something bc she shorted me every time. She went back to Tulum for the summer. Yay! The two Italian boys that they hired just sit around drinking coffee watching the surfers. You can't get them to get you anything. The margaritas are strong some days, no alcohol at all in them the next. You can only get one glass of white wine & it's never cold. The bartenders think that means you can just put ice in it & that will make it better. Yikes. The food is ok. When it's served hot. For some reason their guacamole is the worst on the beach I don't know how they accomplish this? It's perfectly fine across the street, at the hotel bar, the same business. If you want fries they don't have a fryer (yet?) so they go get them from the hotel bar kitchen & walk them across the street back to you. Same with paying with a credit card they make you walk across the street to pay at the hotel reception. Hopefully these service issues will work out in the near future bc I really do like this place. I just stick to bottle beer, shots of tequila & eat at home or elsewhere now bc I'm tired of being disappointed. Great place to watch the sunset & have a few cold beers. Will hopefully update my review when the service gets better. Until then, I will just eat at the hotel bar bc they have excellent food, drinks & service across the street. Recommended for cleanest bathrooms & watching the sunset. read more

1st Night in PE and went to dinner here right across the street where we are staying at Bungalows Zicatela. Also recommend by somebody we met staying at Bungalows Zicatela who said it was amazing. Ceviche & Sailfish sushi were Epic. Nothing to compare it too but my wife and I both said this place is going to be hard to beat. View & location is amazing. Staff is amazing. Food does take a bit to come but when you have this quality of food and this view...who cares? If you are in a hurry go to McDonalds. I envision coming back here many times. Beers 40 pesos. Wifes Mojito 110 pesos. We were stuffed after these two items, mojito & 2 beers came to 650 pesos. Try that in SF, La Jolla or anywhere else in US. Breakfast is also amazing with dishes 100-140 pesos. I'm a Foodie. This place is great. read more

Stop by and was charge 100 pesos to get In to the disco lounge on the 2nd floor only to found all tables reserved, over crowded the girl at the bar not social at all waited ya lease 5 minutes and pretend she was busy someone else came by from the other end of the bar to ask what we needed it ! Over all pretty bad experience. read more
