Please don't come for me if this is not an accurate comparison, but to me this place felt like IHOP (& I love IHOP!). Always busy, extensive menu with something for everyone, casual, and reasonably priced. There is usually a crowd waiting to eat here but don't just get in line--make sure you check in and put your name on the waitlist first. They will call your name when a table is ready for you. Although it's bustling, service is prompt & food comes out quickly. Everything we got was solid breakfast. Not pictured but we also ordered takeout from here when I was having stomach problems, and the chicken soup + chocolate cake really hit the spot. This place gets BUSY; it gets busy early and it seems to stay busy throughout the day. The food itself is nicely done. My husband and I split the cinnamon roll (I wish there had been more filling and more icing), and it was dense yet still moist. We both had French toast which was some of the most innovative and flavorful French toast I've ever had. The service was fast and friendly. I'm giving it 3 stars because I wanted to donate to the bread/coffee drive they have going, and despite my speaking Spanish, neither our server nor the cashier knew what I was asking to do. Even my husband, who is a fluent Spanish speaker, explained and they looked at us like we were speaking Greek. But, it's got good food, and a nice atmosphere, so give it a try!! read more

Do not recommend AT ALL. First of all, the service is nonexistent. I wasn't even acknowledged when waiting for a table and I had to be like hi are you open? I'd love to eat if possible! Nobody came to take my order upon being seated. I finally flagged someone down and ordered a burger. Burger was ok at best, hard to fuck up a cheeseburger but this was prob one of the worst I've ever had realistically. Fries were equally abysmal. Upon checking out; they gave me the wrong bill which was about twice the price of my check. Thank god I looked. We really enjoyed our meal here. It's always crowded with locals and visitors and that's a good sign. I recommend the chili relleños! The poblano pepper is fired roasted, stuffed with cheese battered and fried. We also loved the Chilaquiles in green sauce. The green sauce was flavored and balanced perfectly. This place does not live to the hipe. I was curious about the long queues and good reviews in yelp. Sadly, it is only a good restaurant if you do not know shit about Mexican food. The experience came to a good start. The venue is in front of the beach with nice morning sea breeze coming into the place. Then everything went south pretty fast, the pastries looked good but without flavor, soggy and stone cold. We had to ask them to reheat the bread. To which they oblige, but it visually bother them. Before ordering we asked a few questions, two different waiters came up with different answers. Then the worst part: the food... as a Mexican, we have a pretty good idea of how the Mexican food should taste. The tacos were cold, the tortilla barely heated (they told us they were fried and with quesito), steamed and with prensa cheese (which doesn't melt). When we ask them to fried the tacos the refused (because is very hard to fried a tortilla). The mole was not "black mole" as the assures us (one of the waiters), without seasoning. The only good thing was the chocolate. If you are looking for a nice place to have breakfast/brunch in puerto Escondido. Skip this place unless you are into this kind of things. read more

Nice place for a quick coffee to go. I'd recommend the pastreries, the sweet and the savories. The real winner was the banana bread and the ham and cheese pastries. Reminds me of a hot pocket but better. One of the few places that open early for coffee. read more

It's very busy with locals and tourists which is ok just don't expect anything quick. Only a few non meat options on menu but what we got was good and plenty of it. We are in Puerto Escondido for two weeks and one of the best parts is trying out the amazing, authentic Mexican food. El Cafecito was our first try and It looks like we're off to a great start! We had to wait about 45 minutes because it's an extremely popular place with both visitors and locals. Menu is huge. I had chicken mole enchiladas; I consider myself to be a bit of a Molé snob and this stuff is over the top! Absolutely freaking delicious! They serve it with Cotija cheese and red onion on top, with a generous portion of white meat chicken. I also had a refreshing tropical fruit smoothie. My husband had chilaquiles with chicken from which I stole a bite or six...it's also phenomenal. One caveat...little English is spoken here. Service is exceptional nonetheless! Trip 2 - Sadly not as good. Our choices were both pretty bland. I have the enchiladas Suiza and my husband had tacos with chorizo and potatoes. Both needed a hefty dose of salsa. The Chorizo in the tacos was imperceptible. But the dish saved itself by coming with a massive scoop of fresh guacamole! I really wish I could give a better review. Believe me, I've been rooting for this to be my "go to" for a long time. Some servers are welcoming and some are not. Some make us feel as if we owe them because we want to eat there. That would be great if the food was incredible. I will say that their pasta carbonara is delicious. The cream used is savory with a slight sweet twist. I am not a fan of the chicken soup. The vegetables are more undercooked than al dente; severely undercooked. The chicken breast meat is dry. The Sopa Azteca is good but it has so many tortillas that it soaks up the broth. Guacamole is good and so is the salsa. Lunch is not served until 1pm and on Sat/Sun, not until 2pm. They are open all day and night...more flexible hours for lunch would be nice. It's always busy and so I think the mindset is "if you don't like it, oh well, plenty of people come here". read more

This restaurant is the poster child for a perfectly run business! The staff is efficient, friendly and they bend over backwards to do whatever it takes to please their customers. Their breakfast is fantastic and a great value. I have their "fruit slam" and coffee- an endless cup of the most delicious coffee! The Breakfast comes withFrench toast which is made with their homemade whole wheat bread. The dinners are also tasty. We have the stir fry. A plate filled with crisp vegetables that are in supply that day and the protein of your choice. The staff knows us and if one of us is alone they ask where is your spouse? Pleasant food and drink, nice location right near the main drag and prompt service. The guacamole wasn't electrifying but was pretty good and the chili could have done with a bit more kick. The juices and iced coffees were delicious. They have quite a few western items on the menu as well, in case you're experiencing a case of Montezuma's Revenge. Toilets are hygienic (they have seats and everything - sounds ridiculous but plenty of places in Puerto don't). Totally worth a look for a pleasant meal and refreshing beverage. read more

Our first stop in Puerto Escondido. Read the reviews and decided we give it a try. The food was good but the service was two thumbs down. I had the enmoladas de pollo and my son had the spaghetti bolognese. Everything was great until they served our food. First I got mine than my sons but they forgot my wifes arrachera plate. If I hadn't mentioned anything they would have completely forgot. After my son and I finished our plate that's when they realized that my wifes dinner was forgotten. The waiter ( a tall guy) asked if I wanted it to go. Really, I cane for dinner not take out. After everything was said and done, we never received an apology. Will not return nor recommend this place. Sorry guys total fail. read more

Great food and service. I visited this place three times during my stay in Puerto Escondido. My favorite dish was the Tasajo.

El Cafecito is perhaps one of the best casual breakfast places I have been to in Mexico. The pastries and bread are baked on site before dawn, so that most of the pastries you order are just hours out of the oven -- if that long! Breakfast fare ranges from "US-Style" breakfasts -- pancakes, waffles, bacon and eggs, to more traditional Mexican dishes like Chilaquiles and Oaxacan tasajo. The coffee they serve is custom roasted and grown in the mountains around Puerto Escondido -- perhaps one of my favorite coffees I've had in Mexico. They also sell it "en grano" by the kilogram, so you can take some home with you. Most mornings there is a 10 or 15 minute wait -- the place is very popular -- but its well worth it. The establishment is run very well and operates smoothly, especially given how busy they are. A little pricey in terms of the cost of egg dishes, but you definitely get your money's worth. El Cafecito is an A+++ restaurant, you won't be disappointed. read more
