History
Established in 1998.
C2 Management (C2), formerly CIE Surplus, is the trade name for CIE International L.L.C., a Virginia corporation since 2001. C2 stands for cradle-to-cradle and reflects its core strengths as an asset management and electronics recycling company that increases value by effectively managing assets through their entire life cycle including re-use, recycling, and/or disposal.
Founded in 1998 by Chris Hansen, C2 (www.tryc2.com) is the Mid-Atlantic's largest provider of unique item asset recovery services with an established reputation for efficiency and reliability. Using C2 clients can generate revenue while ensuring environmental responsibility.
Since, 1998 C2 has been hard at work creating systems and procedures to efficiently dispose of surplus assets. In 2012, C2 was among select companies that had become R2 certified for responsible electronics recycling. C2 has since become R2:2013, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 certified to cement its commitment to good stewardship.
Meet the Business Owner: Chris H.
C2 was founded by Chris Hansen after graduating from Old Dominion University (ODU) in December of 1997. While attending ODU Chris participated in several live government auctions and "cash 'n carry" sales operated by the Defense Re-utilization & Marketing Office (DRMO). Proceeds from the sale of government surplus allowed him to pay all of his living expenses while attending ODU.
Prior to college, Chris worked weekends and summers at his father's auto auction. The auction allowed Chris to learn every aspect of the auction business at an early age. It also sparked a passion for buying and selling used assets.
After college Chris became aware of a new type of auction that was quickly becoming popular across the country. These were internet auctions, primarily eBay, whereby a seller could post an item for sale to the internet an reach a very large audience. Severla years later this hobby became what C2 is today - a premier asset recovery and electronics recycling company.
