Once again, the Red Line has cancelled a bus, making my wait time 30+ minutes. I shouldnt be surprised. Just last week they cancelled two red lines back to back. Never any explanation. Besides that, the signage often (very often) says a bus is cancelled, only to send it anyways several minutes late. And if i choose to begin walking to my destination based on Ctran's horrifically bad communication, I end up missing my bus. And of course it's the drivers who end up taking the blame, who are usually not at fault. It honestly feels like they get worse and worse every day. Fix yourself, Ctran. I feel really disrespected. While I was on the green line eastbound to the mall we all had to get off the bus and get on to a new bus so that set me back an hour of my time from the bus that was going to leave them all so I asked the bus driver if you could please call the bus 7 to wait a minute or two before it left so I didn't have to wait an hour and he told me "what do you want me to do send smoke signals". I felt he was being derogatory I felt humiliated in front of all the people on the bus I talked to the security guard when I got off and he informed me to call C-Tran I did but no one called me back I felt that was very disrespectful, derogatory, rude and the little racist. read more

C-Tran - He's the best!!! - Public Transportation Near Me - Vancouver, Washington

This is the fourth time I've had to update my review. C-Tran has not improved at all since the last time I updated my review. Buses are rarely ever on time, everyday, trips are cancelled and buses break down, some of the drivers are very rude, and they have garbage schedules. They've even made me late for work countless times. The Vine is the worst at this as they always either have 20 minute wait times between departure times or they have only one minute in between. Countless times I've seen one bus right behind the other at the same stop and the one that's behind the other pulls right up at the stop the other had left seconds earlier. I have emailed customer service several times and they never answer back nor do they take a hint that their services are horrible. If I could afford a car, I would never ride C-Tran at all. It's still March as I'm rewriting this review and it's a good thing I'm moving out of the area at the end of May since I can't afford to live here anymore because it is too expensive here and once I leave for the Midwest, I am never riding with C-Tran ever again nor do I also ever want to ever see C-Tran again. I sure hope the RTA back home in Dayton, Ohio has better services than C-Tran ever did here since I will have to rely on public transit when I first arrive in Dayton since it will be some time before I can afford to get a car. Its very unprofessional to stop a bus route in the middle of the day leaving customers to wait two hours on the same route. Was trying to wait for a bus home from work and waited an hour and forty minutes for the bus only to call ctran and have them tell me I had to wait another twenty minutes because they dropped the running bus that was supposed to come get me because the bus broke down. Like send a different bus then? Just outrageous. read more

The past year it's been absolutely terrible. They have scheduled routes but skip them without any notice and expect you to just deal with it even if you have things to do. Buses are rarely on time and break down or cancel rides almost daily. In addition, bus drivers are impatient and will close doors on people, bikes and animals who arent immediatly out the door. Customer service is rude and doesn't contact people back. If you can, get a car or just bike instead, as the only way C-Tran is worth the money is if you have free fare. read more

Terrible service. The folks behind the operations clearly haven't ever had to rely on public transport. A bunch of money hungry assholes are making decisions based on their pocket books and not the customers. I often walk places because of the unreliabilities, incongruences, and faux pas from management. The website seems like it was designed by a family friend and not a professional. The call center cant answer simple questions about policies. Bus stops that haven't existed for years still show up as active stops, yet the new stops don't display on a map. Until you gain seniority you only find out your shift schedule the day before. While you have designated days off, c-Tran can have you start as early as 5am or even work you until 2am. Either way you won't know until the day prior. My partner has been working here for a good while (7-8 months) and is doing online school at the same time. While his title is a part time bus driver he works well over 30 hours a week. Sometimes c-tran will have him work a shift until 12am and then start another at 10am the same day. The times are sporadic and he can't even have a regular sleep schedule which is making school/life/work balance very difficult. While there are good benefits and nice staff, scheduling is horrendous. TLDR: Don't apply for a bus driving position here if you want to have a life read more

The buses are clean and not sketchy. But theyre NEVER on time. And I mean EVER. I only ride when I absolutely have to and I have hours to kill. Because by the schedule they've posted both of the ones I have to ride skip entire pickup times and just sit at the transit centers so they can skip as many stops as possible. If I get to the stop ten minutes before the stop time I always know it's gonna be another 20-30 minutes to the next one. It used to be reliable. Now all the drivers are extremely slow. To the point they're 20 to 25 minutes late. So getting to the transit, you'll usually miss your second bus and have to sit around for another 30 to 60 minutes, dependibg on the bus and day. Not to mention they'll take off before you sit so you'll injure yourself. Done that quite a lot in the last 6 years. Had to even wear a knee brace from falling on the stairs, even holding onto the rail. They need some serious training or fix the bus times. I take this 4/5 days a week and rely on this for work. Takes 30-40 minutes for a 15-20 minute drive. Sundays the bus is supposed to show up on my stop - Bus 37 at 10:05pm and 10:45 but they stop showing up at 10 half the time. Ok I've been riding this transportation system for 32 years and even back when Vancouver was a small town. And all I have to say is get with the Times. All the bus lines that don't run on the weekends should run and the bus 60 that connect Portland to Vancouver should run till the vine stops running. I try to make it to the bus stop as early as I can, and then I do the bus either shows up extremely late by 10 or even 30 min without notification that it will be late on the app or website or even Google maps that it would be late or u know...not even show up at all!!! Bus 78 had this lady who would arrive late and yell at everyone for her being late as if it's pur fault and she gets even more pissed off when we try to pay the fee on the bus cuz "She's in too much of a hurry" and a free ride may seem fine but if it means being late AND getting yelled at not worth it I rely on the ctran for RELIABLE transportation but now even thats not helpful anymore and as this is a huge waste of my tax dollars to be this inefficient and disrespectful that they don't understand we don't WANT to take the bus but in our personal reasons need to so the fact they are always running late with no warning on the app and you guys are the reason I'm late to work yet I get to the bus 2 HOURS EARLY and u still either don't show up or completely late. Daily, for over two years, I've taken the 164 from Fisher's Landing downtown and back. Great concept but very inconsistent. Some drivers are fantastic, but they are rotated every few months, so you can't find a consistently good route/time. Here's what makes a good driver: * They communicate with other drivers to find the best alternate routes. * They try new alternate routes to improve their ability to make good time at every stage of the trip (Sometimes getting out of downtown is painful, but good drivers use alternates to find the fastest way out). Most drivers just don't care -- they are often late, don't think beyond putting in their time. I've missed a bus because a driver stopped behind another bus and then quickly left without pulling forward to the actual stop. I've had drivers arrive early and then leave causing me to miss the bus making me late for appointments. The following prompted me to write this review: * I'm currently sitting on a 164 bus right now with a bus driver who doesn't care -- frustrating!! He's probably going to take an hour from bus stop to bus station. Took almost 30 minutes just to get out of downtown because he made no effort to try alternates. * I missed the previous bus because the driver took off from behind another bus without pulling forward to the actual stop. I couldn't see my bus due to the crowd loading on the bus in front. Very frustrated passenger. read more

I take the 105 from pdx to Vancouver express about 2x a week and I don't know if it has ever been on time in the past year I have been using it to get to work. Sometimes it doesn't show up and I have to take the next one. The bus is great and very convenient and I appreciates bus line that connects the two cities, but when planning on getting to work on time, I can almost always count on being late. Okay. Let me get one thing straight. I am a mentally disabled 19 year old who lives in a tiny apartment with my cat. I cannot afford a car nor do I have one. C-Tran is my way of getting anywhere to get things I need (I live on Broadway where there's literally nothing but antique shops everywhere) and everytime I've taken C-Tran I've had one hassle after another. I feel intimidated by the drivers and some of them are just straight up assholes. I'm realitively new to the area and can take a while to figure things out especially because of my disabilities so oftentimes when I take the bus I'm trying to find something. I got confused on what transfer was (yes, I'm that dumb) and the asshole driver kicked me off the bus. I was just at jantzen beach looking at prices on parts to build a PC it's not like I was causing trouble! To be honest I was in Ellensburg before this covid crap happened and honestly their bus drivers were nice, warm, welcoming, and understanding. C-Tran? Not so much...... plus routes are confusing. read more

C-Tran -- From the perspective of a "Heart of Downtown Vancouver" resident. I buy a $45 C-Tran bus pass at Fred Meyer during the last 5 days of each month. It's good for all of their routes in Clark County, Washington. C-Tran's $82 "All Zone" pass is good for Clark County, plus anywhere in Portland (Trimet bus, Streetcar and Max). I'd buy this pass if I got down there more often. But it makes more economic sense, and with less effort to buy 10-packs of Trimet tickets in advance at Max machines -- see my Trimet article for more info about this. C-Tran's top tier is the $105 "Express to Portland" pass. It's good for everything mentioned above, plus any of the 7 different 100 series express buses, which travel directly to points in Portland. For infrequent usage, pump $1.30 into the cash box as you board the bus for a single ride, or $3.00 for a day pass in Clark County, WA, or $6.00 for a day pass in Clark County and Portland. Occasionally I rent one of the three clean new Zipcars located in downtown Vancouver www.yelp.com/biz/zipcar-portland#hrid:v1ElOSgr33WbCCxR6KEuxQ This costs just under $11 per hour, half price between 12am-5am, and includes everything; the rental, as well as gas, insurance and taxes. Everything. From downtown Vancouver, C-Tran bus #4 runs south every 15 minutes to the Jantzen Beach Super Center, from there it heads onto the MAX Yellow Line (light rail) at the Delta Park Transit Center (TC). Then it returns to Jantzen Beach, to downtown Vancouver, and continues northeast via 4th Plain, up to Vancouver Mall. The 37-H runs every 20 minutes north up Highway 99. Also from downtown, 37-M runs every 20 minutes east via Mill Plain to Fisher's Landing TC. From Fisher's Landing I can catch #65 every 30 minutes, at the top and bottom of the hour, but not on Sunday. It heads southbound on I-205 down to Park Rose TC in Portland. From that TC I can catch the MAX or a number of Tri-Met buses. I often transfer over from C-Tran #4, to Tri-Met bus #6 where the two meet up at Jantzen Beach. Tri-Met #6 also runs every 15 minutes. It heads south down MLK Way to the Rose Quarter (Rose Garden and Convention Center), where it meets up with the MAX again, then it continues on via MLK Way to downtown Portland. The C-Tran.com web site was recently improved and overhauled. Now there's an extremely cool and concise trip planner on the homepage, you enter your start and stop addresses, it tells you how to get there. Remember to enter the right day of the week, because most buses have limited schedules on Saturdays, and more limited on Sundays and holidays. It would be cool if C-Tran's bus stops and routes were documented in Google Earth like Trimet does. (Google Earth is a program you download to your computer. Click a check-mark on "transportation", to enable blue diamonds on the map near your destination, and you can see which Trimet buses and Max lines serve that location). It would be even cooler if each stop had an actual "street address" -- to help clarify which side of which street they were on. I wish the printable PDF for routes were more concise. I remember how daunting it was when I started riding the bus, there were so many things to learn, much of which the knowers took for granted. I think the web site would improve even more if they'd solicit anonymous input from newbies, then publish what they learn. I like C-Tran's clean new gray paint jobs and cool logo. But then one day they started advertising on them -- I understand that advertising brings in 1% of the budget. But in my opinion, a fleet of spamy looking buses casts a reflection on the city. Both C-Tran and Trimet have lots of visible security -- far more than the nightly news would lead you to believe. read more

While the service is pretty good, and busses are usually on time, they have a lot of areas with once an hour routes. Also a lot of busses just don't run late enough. 8/16 Bus 30, burton. Out of downtown Vancouver arrived 5 min early according to Apple maps. Last bus of the night. I'm rounding he corner, running to jump on. Bus driver has stopped but not picking up other people as they're waiting for a different bus. Bus pulls away. I run after, in the middle of the street, to no avail. I'm stranded, only reason being my car is in the shop. No wonder people complain about c-Tran. We're trying to build up or city, not piss people off. Don't ride CTRAN if you need to be somewhere ON TIME! There is a group of us who use the CTRAN Express bus (Route 105) to commute to Downtown Portland for work each morning. We've seen a number of drivers come and go, some good and some not so good. Until recently, we got lucky enough to have a reliable driver who picked us up on time MOST OF THE TIME, with traffic creating an occasional delay. Then suddenly, we got a new driver and this guy is AT LEAST 10 minutes late EVERY SINGLE DAY, without exception, and a 20 minute delay is not unusual. This creates issues catching connecting busses Downtown, and CTRAN can't be used as a reliable form of transportation if someone punches a time clock or needs to be on time. Because these busses on this route don't run all that frequently, it means I need to leave 40 minutes earlier to catch the bus before my usual one. To make my 9am start time at work, I will need to leave home at 7am, rather than 7:40. That's 4 extra hours added on to my work week because they replaced a reliable, on-time driver with one that has no work ethic and shows up whenever it's convenient for him, regardless of the route schedule. read more

Bus 80 shows up 12 minutes late; when stated that Route 164 to Portland Commute bus leaves @ 7:30 am, driver purposefully slows down the road, and passengers watch the 164 leave Fishers. Driver shouts "Have a nice day!" I was 50 minutes late to work. Ctran is a nightmare. Let's investigate federal and state funding per ADA and see if drivers take note of their self serving devil may care make passengers pay for their lack of service, total zero on accountability, and threatening job loss for passengers. When asked at customer service this AM if Ctran employees can show up to work whenever they feel like it, the rep. said "No". Call the Executive Board, City Council, County Representatives, Governor and the DOT Federal level if you as a passenger would like to see Ctran--a major operator serving a metropolitan - improve its mission and passenger/customer service. Note: funny and cool votes on last review were most likely from Ctran employees who received almost 5% raise. Bow down to the public servants. read more

If there was a zero star I would give it that. The transit security is always rude and doesn't seem to know what fares are accepted or not. I have called ctran directly and checked the website with a few of them to show them that you guys do accept my work bus pass. They are always trying to kick me off even though I always have fare. This time I was trying to teach my friend how to tap for fare and for some reason it wasn't working so we were going to use our watches instead. But the transit security rushed us off of the bus and the driver wasn't paying attention and was playing with the ramp going up and down the ramp hit me and knocked me down causing me to injure my left foot and right leg and galaxy watch. Those aren't cheap. Did I forget to mention that I'm pregnant. The driver just drove off and the security didn't even see if I was ok. I'm clearly pregnant showing. I called to report the incident and customer service told me that a manager would call me the next day. No calls happened. I guess the security can treat customers how bad they want and the drivers can causes how ever many injuries they want and ctran doesn't care. I'm really upset. read more

I am kind of new to the area, and was not aware of the differences between trimet and c-tran. until i had a first day of a new job and attempted to get on one of your lovely buses only to have the drivers hand fly up, doors close quickly and off she went. I went through what felt like days of anguish, did i know her? have a wronged this individual in a past life? why won't she let me fulfill my need to get to my first day of the job on time... only after TWO more attempts on other c-tran buses, i (WAS NOT EVER TOLD) deduced that, my cooties infested trimet all day pass was not good enough for the ctran. i was never even suggested that by the, i'm sure otherwise fantastic human specimens, needless to say, the job wasn't as forgiving as the driver's hand in my face. so i wanted to take this time to thank you for the lovely experience. read more

CTRAN caters to the crowd along Mill Plain and 4th Plain Streets as well as Portland routes. The rest of the county over the years has been given the bus and before people see if it is going to stay on route they pull away and change the routes. They don't go everywhere we want to go in the North County. Service to Battle Ground is poor and nobody can relie on the service to get you from one end of Main Street to the other. Wow. I have recently started using Ctran to go to and from work, between Portland and Washougal and have been impressed with the whole system. Buses are on time, comfortable and drivers have been polite, prompt and respectful. That is, until today. I was running a little late so I had to catch the #65 leaving Parkrose TC to Fishers Landing at 10:40 instead of 8:10. I approached the bus, idling at the stop, but with the doors closed. I tap gently on the door with my fare in my hand, the driver turns to look at me then makes some weird gesture, turns back and astonishingly pulls away from the curb! What? Are you kidding me? Its like 30 degrees out! Why? I have no idea. Hopefully I won't be late again so I won't have to see that driver again. What a jerk. A real douche canoe. read more

**3/20 UPDATE** Surprise! They're "proposing" fare increases yet again. This will happen for sure as they always pass new fare increases. I wonder what route will see service reduction next following this. What a joke, C-Tran! I've HAD IT with this company. Seriously. On top of the issues below, C-Tran also censors their Facebook page. I, as well as SEVERAL other customers, would take to Facebook and leave a complaint. C-Tran completely IGNORED these. Every single one has since been deleted and they also removed reviewing them on Facebook. Cool. Hide the complaints. Real professional. The buses are almost ALWAYS late. This is likely due to the fact that multiple drivers will pull up to a stop (even if no one is there and no one requests it) and just SIT there for a period of time. Last I checked, they have schedules to follow and doing crap like this is NOT how you keep on time. Another problem. Multiple times I am not at a stop and the bus driver will see me running but not stop for me and wait. That's fair...NOT! Just ask the kids that board the bus at 7AM off Mill Plain and Andresen. The driver will stop and wait an upwards of 10 minutes for these kids to get to the stop. They're not broken! THEY CAN WALK LIKE ANYONE ELSE! Quit enabling a lazy youth! They literally go ONE STOP DOWN THE ANDRESEN HILL! God forbid you make these kids use their working legs... You guessed it! Another one!! They recently removed some stops along route #32 in Hazel Dell. One of these stops was a HEAVILY USED sheltered bus stop. The only one close by actually. They went ahead and removed it to "streamline" and "improve" service. Well that definitely has NOT been demonstrated considering the bus is STILL late EVERY DAY! But hey, inconvenience us riders right? Fun fact: We now get to wait in the RAIN unless we walk 10 minutes to another bus stop...sorry, but that's not how it should be. They say they removed these stops due to low use. Um...the sheltered one on 78th street was NOT low use, morons. Just ask the multiple people that waited for it DAILY at 6:30AM... The kicker is this one. March 16th, 2015, I was on my way to work. I waited almost 30 MINUTES AFTER the scheduled time for the bus. Oh boy nothing like a bus NOT SHOWING UP AT ALL!!!! So after being forced to drag my SICK girlfriend out of bed to drive me, I call and complain. "Oh the bus broke down and we don't have backup". Wow...so you can pump thousands of tax payer dollars into high definition cameras on your buses (get real...what a damn WASTE!) and CONTINUE to raise fares...but a GOVERNMENT operated business can't keep a bus running? Please, continue to be more ridiculous and waste my damn money. All in all, I'm tired of how bad the service has become. They continue to reduce stops and service...but don't hesitate to jack up the fares every year! I hope another system comes in an runs this joke of a bus operator out of Vancouver. I can't fathom the challenges of being a bus driver. That alone has my respect. I would like to share I've caught the same two busses to and from work 5 times a week without fail the last 5 years. If you ever want to witness what superior customer service is then take a ride on the 32 Andersen -downtown, or the 37 fisher landing - downtown. Doing so o have encountered some of the most selfless, courteous, benevolent individuals on this side of the soil. I lost count a long time ago of the good deeds, near misses, and situations where it would have been extremely difficult to keep being professional. Never on time! I ride everyday at different times. Drivers seem to have the attitude that "hey I get paid by the hour, I'm in no hurry, we can spend 5 minutes at every stop even tho I'm already 10 minutes late at the start of my route" I hate C-tran in every way, maybe Tri-Met has just spoiled me. It's like anyone who is qualified to drive bus works for Tri-Met and C-Tran just hires the rejects or left overs. C-Tran drivers never seem happy, it's like they're all depressed and hate their jobs. I don't know how many times I've waited for the 37 and never saw a bus for 45 minutes plus. So I walk mostly, since even if a bus does come, it's probably late anyway. Get it together C-Tran, or just do away with schedules, just show up whenever you feel like it and if you feel like it. I take that C-Tran bus and there is a bus driver that seems to have a problem with me and my ethnicity. He makes a point of inspecting at an unnecessary length, my transfers and day passes, in front of other passengers, putting me in a ridiculous and unwarranted uncomfortable situation. Sometimes he'll turn the thing over and over and this way and that, while I stand there, numb, wanting nothing more than to just be able to take a seat. No other driver does this, and I haven't seen him do this with anyone else who gets on that bus, just me. When I ask for a transfer, he makes a point of rubbing and rubbing on the flimsy paper before giving it to me like I am going to walk off with more than one transfer. When I look like this is bothering me he'll sit there and smirk like it's the greatest joke on earth. I have been taking public transportation in another city for many years and never come across something like this. I'm not a thief, and I'm not looking to get away with anything and I sure don't appreciate being treated this way. In today's world, it's sad that a paying customer who is tired and just trying to get home after a long, hard day of work should be subjected to this nonsense. Today, I'd had it as I was having what had to be the most incredibly bad day of my life, and this to serve as the crap icing on the cake. I called their customer line and they told me it would be at least 10 days before anybody would ever get back to me about it. Guess, I'll just have to keep putting up with the abuse. The fun continues...I had to get on that bus again,which I dread doing, and try to avoid, unless I can help it. This time he singled me out for having my earbuds on too loudly. The minute I sat down, he kept looking up at the rearview, glaring over at me. The bus was loud, especially loud with people talking and laughing loudly,, and there were other people on with loud headphones because they later said so. He stopped the bus, came over and started yelling at the top of his lungs for the music to be turned off. There were people in the back they said to him that they would turn their headphones down. I said mine were up because people were talking loudly. He got all red-faced and started SCREAMING at me at the top of his lungs about 'how it's policy', well it didn't seem to be policy at all until I turned MY headphones on, then all of a sudden it mattered. Oh, and I did get a call back from their office, that was basically one of those 'we're sorry this happened to you, and we'll look into it" ramblings that clearly meant nothing at all. read more

I and my significant other have been riding C-tran for several years now and we are familiar with a lot of the drivers and several of the security detail. But we recently ran into a younger security person who is not very familiar with us. Though we have a daily ride that we both go on to and from the same place. But on Friday we went and stayed with a friend in Hazel Dell and the next morning we were on our way to our daily location when we ran into this security guy. My girl who has had several surgeries on her left leg and struggles to walk had simply forgotten her purse which was in her jacket and was 3 stops further up. When he asked for fare we explained that if we could just go 3 more stops we would gladly get her jacket and purse and provide him with the proof of fare. We both have monthly bus passes and have gotten monthly passes for many months. At first he said that if we could get the fare at that stop we would be fine but then at the next stop he demanded she get off. I explained that she has fare and that shes got to get to her appointment by 11:30am and it was about 11:07. I told him how she could get that pass if he would just allow her to go 3 more stops. But he would not even consider giving her just the three stops which was on the way to her appointment. I said we could get off together and he could go with us if he really needed to but again he was heartless and unwavering. Well she got off and he went one stop further and got off to wait for her! you see, he knew how urgent it was for her to get to her appointment and had already figured that being she was crippled (and could barely walk) that she had no other recourse and so when she was on the next Vine he got to her and wrote her up. He had her thrown off for a month! I called customer service and explained that she really does have fare. I explained that she has the copies of bus passes from the last 7 or 8 months as well to show that we always have fare and ride the bus daily. I was told I would get a call back from a supervisor about this very soon. Well this was on Saturday and its now Tuesday and still I have not heard anything. Now this security guy was waiting today at the normal place we get on to do our daily run and I am certain that he was there specifically just to insure that my crippled spouse doesn't get on the bus. Today she had her bus pass too but that doesn't matter anymore. No it doesn't matter that she has it now or that she did indeed have it on Saturday as well. She had simply left it in her jacket. I thought these guys were supposed to insure that habitual scammers and persons who really do try to cheat the system were kept from doing that! I did not know that the focus of a security person has become insuring that person who may have simply forgot their personal effects one day were never allowed to ride anymore. If she was a scammer she sure wouldn't have shown up today with her pass to try to get another free ride. But now it appears that he has a mission despite the obvious proof he was shown today that she was not lying. He is now being paid our tax dollars to enforce a policy regarding persons who cheat the system on to a crippled woman who has fare and to make sure she gets into as much trouble over this as he can. He was there today specifically for her. Is that really what his job is about? Is this guy for real? Does he lack the humanity to be able to discern the difference between whats appropriate and what is not about who is allowed to ride the bus? He should just start walking up to the patrons and saying, "Papers please!". That is how it was done in Germany a few decades back. read more
