Our first trip to C Stones was great, and we WILL be back! Gina started with Lobster Bisque, which she liked ALOT, esp. loved the chunks of lobster. For her meal , she ordered a salad with tuna salad on top. Very good, she reports. For my meal, I had Eggplant Parmigiana and Ziti with Marinara. C-Stones took over from Vel's. Vel's was a kind of mediocre restaurant and bar that had been around forever. My hope was that things would improve over Vel's and I would have a new place to put on my dining out rotation. Sadly, this was not the case. Other than the name change, there is almost nothing different. We really like to order Prime Rib when we can get it, and C-Stones is one of the few places that offer it all the time. Even though the doneness was correct, it was dry and tasteless. A great disappointment. 5* for the portion size, 3* for the taste and texture. Bread: 2.5*, just some cheap rolls not worth eating. Baked Potato: 2.5*, slightly under-cooked. Service: 3.8*, not terrible, but not that great. I'll likely give them another try in 4 or 5 years from now. read more

So nice to see the fresh new look at C-Stones. Frequented Vel's for many years. Everything was fantastic. Lobster bisque, and clam chowder were excellent. Order your pizza "a little crispy " and it comes out great, big improvement from Vel's pizza. read more

A regular customer of Vel's over last 5 years. New owners did a good job giving place a paint job. I have to admit it sure needed one. I had the Lobster Bisque it was ok only small bits of lobster in the bisque and now $2 more for small cup. I've had worse Chicken Supreme was great a perfect chicken cutlet with gravy. Wife had a Fisherman's platter was served cold and smaller portion than Vel's but price was ok. I do not recommend making a special trip to come here but if you are driving by you could stop since there are many more worst restaurants in the area . Great cheeseburger with cheddar and mushrooms. Burger was cooked just right for medium. Fries had no salt on them when served and that is how it should be. I'll add my own. Chowder was excellent. read more

Took my wife and son out for dinner for mother's day and was very disappointed she said it tasted horrible and like it was from a can I had the stuffed haddock not good at all and the sauce was to much and gross..won't be going there again..miss vels..I wouldn't even give one star place has a hole in celling and could use some paint i apologize to my wife and offered to go somewhere else but she wanted to go home C- stone's was a bust read more

Surprised at the negative reviews. We visit about once a week and have been very happy with the food and service. Out of probably 25 meals, only had one that wasn't great. Was given a discount coupon toward our next visit. Pizza is excellent bar style. Fried haddock portion is huge and delicious. Burgers are excellent and onion rings homemade. It's not fancy, but a good casual meal at a decent price. 1/2 price apps Monday to Thursday you can make a meal out of. Love the wait staff. They remember us when we come in, even coming over to say hi if we aren't at their table. read more

Very disappointed. My lasagna was burnt and dry and the Bolognese was nothing like Vel's. My husband's Reuben was mediocre at best. Our waitress was friendly and efficient, but the portion size has shrunk and the prices went up. We won't return. I had to ask for more sauce in order to make the lasagna edible. Very little meat in the sauce. So sorry...I loved Vel's and its Jersey Shore ambiance. read more

The bright lights and new decor do nothing to make you feel comfortable. The smell of bleach was overpowering through out the restaurant. The fishermen's platter was very small and warm with cold french fries. Meals no longer come with a salad. Service was OK Will not be returning. read more

My meal was served burnt. It never should have been served to me. The people behind me also had their meal (not the same food) served burnt. The bartender said of the original 7 chefs that were at Vel's only 1 stayed after it was sold to C stones. Hope they get their act together. read more

Long time Vels customer. Pridictably, the new folks they painted the walls white and grey. Boring. Many menu items are now missing. Seafood cassarole, now called Seafood Caiyo, is exactly the same and cooked hot and fresh. The seafood platter is smaller, but still good. The steak tips are similar, but half the portion. The only soup left is kale, not free. Costs $7 for a tiny cup!!! Bring back the soups and make them $3 with a meal. Large dining room is closed, probably for functions. What are they going to do when busy? Wait staff and cooks are the same currently. Who knows where it goes in the future since they opened so quick. It certainly is not better. Vels was an easy 5 stars in quality and portion. read more

Stopped in for the first time after ownership change. Very disappointed. Smaller portions and higher prices. Clam plate dinner and broiled seafood special were mediocre. Very loud acoustics and new paint spoiled the ambiance of the former Vel's restaurant. After frequenting the former Vel's will not return. So sad. read more

Enjoyed Vels, wanted to try out Cstones. Place has been moderately updated, paint, TVs, etc. Nice to see some of the Vels staff still employed, nice people. Menu has drastically changed, in my opinion the Vels menu was just too big. New owners kept many of the old dishes added some new. I've read other reviews claiming prices spiked, I didn't see a huge jump, you have to expect prices to climb though. New owners with a mortgage, Vels had been paid for many years over I am sure. Now sadly the back of the house needs some major Improvment. Dinner was very slow to come out and not good. I had veal parm that was really bad and cold. My buddy had the Cajun ribeye ordered medium, it was anything but medium, it absolutely massacred and cold (how does that happen when so overcooked). We let it go, chalking up to growing pains and feeling the waitstaff's pain did not want to add insult to injury. Will go back, however I am going to give it till maybe the new year before trying again. read more

Just went to the new C-Stone Tavern that used to be Vels. I ordered takeout in the restaurant and after a hour of waiting we had to ask where our food was. After we asked they brought it rite out so it was very obvious it was sitting... I ordered the Turkey Dinner I always do and due to it just sitting at the restaurant it was already cold when they handed it to me. I don't think we're going back anytime soon.. wish one restaurant would open in Wareham that was actually good! We just wasted $40..= read more

Loved vels, loved the waitresses. Always felt welcome and are very friendly. Went to the new C Stones....waitresses was not competent. She directed us where to sit, no menus given. Only 1 out of 2 sodas delivered. Had to ask for menu. After receiving the appetizer, we had to ask for silverware. Alot of the dishes were taken off the menu. Older couples were complaining that their "usual meal" was gone and the prices jacked up. I got fish and chips; fries were cold and not real potatoes. Even the original waitresses said they were getting complaints from the usual customers. The only change i could see was they painted walls white. I give it a thumbs down. read more

This was a disaster. Prices spiked. No carafes or bottles of wine for purchase. No pizzas. The staff is still amazing, but the new management took down every iconic poster in the place. The whole place was painted a dull gray. On a Sunday night, no one was in the bar or dining room. What a come down from a great family restaurant. They will not see us again. read more
