I would give zeros stars if I could! They have a CASH ONLY SCHEME to avoid paying taxes! I started going here a year ago from a referral since I moved to Maine from California. A few times they were decent but literally my nails would always break/crack or the polish would chip/ peel off. It was such an inconvenience to go back to them a day or just days after my nails were done. Also, I was charged for the nail repair every time even if it was the next day! My last experience at this nail salon was the worst by far treatment I have ever received at any nail salon in my life! I went in for a fill-in and requested for that he added a thicker layer over my nails that he had filed so thinly the last visit! He then refused and said, "I don't trust him" which I responded , "That it's not about trust. I am going on vacation to Italy tomorrow and the fact that the last several times I had gotten service, my nails have broken the next day. I don't want this to happen again, it's about customer service." He then refused and told me that he would no longer complete my nails and to have a nice vacation. I was completed stunned and humiliated in front of the entire salon but I left with class. Save yourself the time and find a nail salon in Bangor. I found this homey nail salon to be clean and bright and cozy. They were cordial on the phone when I made an appointment and answered all my questions. They mentioned that they take cash only so I was prepared to pay them. (I see one customer claiming they do this to scam their taxes, but that is just plain false. Many small business only take cash or check now due to high credit card fees.) The prices of all services were the same or lower than my bigger city hometown where there are nail salons everywhere. Peaceful music was playing and it was quiet and serene even though many customers were coming in and out. There were four technicians on duty. No one had to wait very long even though they had many scheduled appointments and took a few walk ins, too. Emily did my pedicure perfectly and quickly. John did my acrylic fill with one repair gently and quickly. I've been to many nail technicians over 40 years and he was one of the best I've had. He was expert at laying the product on smoothly and thinly so there was minimum filing. The shape I asked for was perfect. I highly recommend this business. read more

Hands down the best nail salon I've been to thus far in the area!! Wish I had known about this place sooner, but alas they are not on Yelp. FYI in this part of Maine, Google reviews are usually more bountiful than Yelp reviews. Though I still tend to prefer Yelp hence why I'm posting here. Very very good salon. C&T is superior to Sassy IMO all ways. Techs and owners are genuinely, friendly, curious and professional though many of them do not speak English or want to chat with you whatsoever. It's clean and minimal inside with not as much blinding decor as elsewhere. Not so busy that they can't fit you in, or you can't walk in with little wait. A gel mani here is currently $30 so with tip expect to pay $35-40 for that service, which is more than what I am used to paying in my former home of nearly a decade in a major city. My gels from here last about two wks as opposed to my normal 2.5-three, and a few of my nails were filed every so slightly crooked. Also be warned the gel top coat they use here is very prone to scuffs and dulling-- it did not stay shiny for me very long. So, if you are particular about your nails like me (hello, I am the one that has to look at them and live with them, yes they had better be damn near perfect), you could bring in an OPI or gelish one and request they use that. I didn't have any gel on my cuticle or skin which again, is more than I can say for Sassy. My gels from Sassy have peeled and had bubbles and blemishes the tech doesn't care to take notice of, try to file out and fix. Be prepared to bring cash money-- they don't take cards, it is cash or check only and there is no ATM inside or nearby AFAIK. If they had a mani pedi special or took cards and offered a cash discount I'd probably become a regular convert, but since I work with my hands and go bare nailed all summer and can do my gels myself when I need a mani, this is a once in a while dead of winter pick-me-up splurge thing for me personally. read more

A nail salon named after a surf shop, huh? A nail salon in a random neighborhood of Ellsworth? A strange place to have a nail salon but this is clearly the best nail salon in the area. Well appointed, clean, and quality. I don't know anything about nails but I can notice professionalism and a pretty nail, especially after seeing rushed and poor work at nearly every other nail salon in Ellsworth and the Blue Hill peninsula. We were so lucky to be able to walk-in but it is a rarity we have learned to get in without a reservation, but a rainy day was our friend. They were brisk with their work with back-to-back reservations, barely taking breaks like a well-oiled machine. Highly recommended for their quality, work ethic, and competitive pricing. Great experience and the nicest people. Fair warning, they only take cash or check. After a nice pedicure, very relaxing with hot stones, I went to pay with card and no. No cards. I had an appt 10 minutes from there so couldn't just run to an ATM. "no problem, come back when you can." What! Never happen in my home town. Went back later and thanked them.
