That alone was a great sign for me because I was in so much pain. The office seems small from the outside but it really quite spacious. First thing you notice is how clean and neat everything is, but also very inviting. That goes for the exam room too. Unlike some offices where you see a lot of people waiting, I was the only one at that time. That's because Dr. Watanabe really takes the time to explain and go over everything with you. She takes time to answer questions, and also working with you to find the best solution for you. I definitely left the appointment more informed of what I needed to do and what I needed to expect in terms of recovery, and for me it means no exercise until further notice. But in the name of getting better. You gotta do what you gotta do.

It was kinda cute but didn't go away. It reminded me of that small kid time thing a ma jig tube you squeeze and roll a tiny jelly like ball onto a straw and blow. What we did as kids. Thank goodness it didn't smell like that product. Dr. Kristy told me on the first visit it's coming from the first joint on that toe so place a Kleenex on it and press. It didn't break and remained. So I made another appointment since it started to hurt when I pressed on it plus majorly not attractive. Long story short she advised me that she'd cut, spread it open, take out the joint and remove the bump which one day popped on its own without healing. 1/9/26 Went into surgery with Dr. Kristy and a fantastic team at Pali Momi. Five days later on 1/14/26 went in for a follow up. Was curious to see what the little toesy would look like...I imagined the worst so at the unveiling I was SO majorly pleased that the toe didn't flop without the first joint and wasn't badly discolored or bruised. Dr. Kristy explained it all depends on the healing process it could still flap- hideous! I'll do my best to heal well and come back on 1/22/26 to remove the stitches then go get a vibrant red colored pedicure with bling pronto to celebrate. Thank you Dr. Kristy, nurse Anna and front desk staff. Crossing my fingers that all ends well.

It's unfortunate when you have an ankle or foot injury. It holds you back and ties you down. You…read morethen realize how important your feet are. I've had a periodic issue with my ankles as I injured them every so often when I used to hike religiously. It really didn't help when you're going down those steep stairs at Koko Head or those slippery exposed roots of Kuliouou Ridge. One mistake or mishap and ouch... For several months I've been dealing with a persistent ankle injury and juggling 2 jobs where one of them has me on my feet sure didn't help. The next thing I know I woke up to a sharp pain on a Friday morning where I had a hard time standing up. In the past, I'd rest my leg by RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation), wear a brace and take OTC pain medicine, but after skipping work to implement RICE and medicine for a couple of days, the pain and swelling didn't go away. It was now time to see a doctor but it was the weekend. I reached out to my sister who is an RN and she re-iterated my options of urgent care or ER, where it wasn't a life or death situation so I waited until Monday morning to call. When I asked my sister who she'd recommend, she advised me to see Dr. Ricky Sukita at Island Foot and Ankle Specialists. When I called first thing Monday morning to make an appointment with Dr. Sukita, I was advised he was booked solid and his next opening wasn't until later in the week. The thought about waiting several more days with the pain wasn't appealing but fortunately the receptionist gave me the option to see Dr. Kari Tanimoto DPM as she had an opening that morning. I accepted the offer and came here. Located on the 10th floor of Kuakini Physicians Tower, which is just next to Kuakini Medical Center, Dr. Tanimoto shares the same office as Dr. Sukita. As I arrived shortly before my appointment time, I used the waiting time filling out their forms about my past medical history. I also submitted my ID and health insurance card as requested. Shortly after completing the form, one of the staff called my name and took my temperature before seeing Dr. Tanimoto. I was escorted to a room, where she came in shortly after being settled in. I appreciated Dr. Tanimoto asking me multiple questions about my ankle issue and assessed the area that was clearly swollen. She took consideration of the discomfort to diagnose my injury. In the past when I saw a podiatrist, I took an x-ray to see if anything was broken or fractured. My ankle was so uncomfortable with not much improvement that I asked Dr. Tanimoto if she'd recommend me taking an x-ray. For a piece of mind, she agrred and arranged for an x-ray at Kuakini Medical Center. In order to better secure my ankle, Dr. Tanimoto suggested I wear a walking boot. At first I thought about the attention I'd get from its bulkiness and the inconvenience of this heavy duty boot but then realized how sturdy this is. The boot will allow my ankle to heal faster as well as allow me to transport from point A to point B. My insurance would cover the cost, which was a bonus for me. I also requested if she could write me a prescription as the OTC pain medicine wasn't strong enough. At first, it was difficult adjusting to the walking boot as my body had to compensate for the extra weight, uneven height and bulkiness where I almost tripped. Both legs became sore as I had to adjust wearing the boot but after time, I realized my ankle couldn't bend or twist so it started to heal. I'll be frank with my initial impression of Dr. Tanimoto. Because she is young I was somewhat reserved as I questioned her expertise. At times she didn't speak with authority nor confidence so I was a little skeptical but how wrong I was. She clearly is knowledgeable and knows best for the patient. I just came back from my follow-up appointment where Dr. Tanimoto assessed my ankle and clearly the swelling went down. She did some movement and pressure tests where I didn't experience any pain nor discomfort. She also advised me to make that transition where I'd wear regular shoes for about an hour and then put the boot back on. Dr. Tanimoto brought to my attention that jumping back to normal too soon can backfire so she highly recommended to transition back in multiple stages. Overall, I was very pleased to have Dr. Tanimoto of Island Foot and Ankle Specialists attend to my ankle and highly recommend others to see her if you have ankle or foot issues. They do accept multiple insurance carriers so call ahead to confirm coverage. Parking is connected to Kuakini Physicians Tower and her office validates your parking ($3). NOTE: The office sends you a text message the day before as an appointment reminder and provides you a link if you need to change or cancel your appointment.

After the assessment, She proceeded to give us all the options for us to try in store. She was very helpful and acknowledgeable for what was needed. She recommended to choose whatever felt most comfortable since it'll be an investment. After doing this, we needed new slippers due to foot issues. She again went above and beyond by pulling several recommendations off the wall like she did previously with the inserts. She even explained that if they didn't have the size we wanted, she could check their other store locations and have it shipped to the store for pick up. If you ever need some foot care, I'd recommend this location (as well as the Kaneohe one) versus to the poor non existent customer service skills Pearlridge location.

But step in diabetes, where overlooking issues under this condition can be tragic. Just last week at my part time job, a customer came in and I recognized his voice as he's a regular. But I didn't immediately recognize him as he lost a lot of weight and clearly had mobility issues. When I blurted out his name, indeed it was him. He told me he was diabetic and ignored a toe injury where a life-changing procedure slowed him down. For a couple of weeks now, I had what seemed like a blister on one of my toes where it now became 2. It was painful to walk in shoes and when I showed it to family members where one is doing her residency at a large hospital and my sister has been an RN for over 30 years, was told it could be either a blister, callous or wart. I, too, am diabetic and fears crossed my mind. My sister strongly suggested I have it investigated immediately. Step in Ricky Sukita (RS). RS is a podiatrist who has been in practice for over 35 years. Located in Kuakini Physician's Exchange, the office of RS is on the 11th floor. It was so nice to make an appointment where his staff immediately answered the phone when I called. Their records show this wasn't my first time to the office, but I was impressed on the service and professionalism extended to me. I addressed to the staff of my issue and after confirming my address and health insurance plan, I was escorted to an empty office where several minutes later RS showed up. Words cannot express my relief where it was disclosed my issue was callous development. I've had warts before where it was painful and took a long time to resolve. After assessing my regular work and leisure regimen, RS explained of my current condition and how this came all about. He also advised me how to handle this situation and provided me with protection. I appreciated how he informed me and educated me where I understood and didn't feel incompetent that led to my condition. Overall, solid 5-stars to RS and his staff. From making the appointment to walking out of the office after my appointment, there weren't hassles nor stress. I understand RS is taking new patients. If you're looking for a podiatrist, look no further.

It was unbearable this past weekend where I took Ibuprofen for the discomfort. I previously have been under the care of Dr. Ricky Sukita so I called the office first thing Monday morning and was advised Dr. Sukita's first opening is not until in April. I was offered the option to see Dr. Andrew Cheng, who was available and snagged the next appointment at 845am. Located in the same office as Dr. Sukita on the 11F of Kuakini Physician's Tower, Dr. Cheng is also a board certified podiatrist. After confirming which area of my right foot experiencing discomfort, Dr. Cheng performed an assessment of various tests for mobility and sensitivity. I was initially shocked when diagnosed with a mild case of gout. But then recalled about 10 years ago when my PCP mentioned my uric acid level was on the high side and back then had also experienced excruciating sharp pain on my toe. I also had eaten very well in Japan, especially chowing down on deep fried Hiroshima oysters on multiple occasions, Gyukatsu from Motomura and my AYCE shabu shabu dinner. Yikes... Dr, Cheng advised I'd be put on oral medicine to be taken daily to ease the pain and to watch my intake. He had his staff arrange my medication pickup at my location choice where it was ready for pickup within a few hours. Shortly after taking Colchicine, the pinkness of the flare up disappeared and was able to apply more pressure on my right foot. Overall, an excellent first experience with Dr. Cheng. I was able to get the medical attention needed and received the care and direction for recovery. He was easy to speak with and understand my situation where I need to be careful on my diet as well as address this issue when I meet with my PCP for my regular annual physical in a few months.

Pros: Efficient…read morescheduling: The clinic's operations are well-organized, and they can often accommodate patients quickly with same-day appointments. Prompt rooming: I was taken to an exam room almost immediately upon arrival. Cons: Unprofessional bedside manner: While I was explaining the intense pain in my right foot, Dr. Cheng interrupted me to take a phone call and stepped out of the room. When he returned, he offered no explanation or apology, leaving me with the impression that he was unconcerned with my care. Lack of clear communication: He provided very little explanation for my condition, simply stating I had "boney spurs on both feet," handed me some pads, and rushed me out of the office. I ultimately had to seek care from another podiatrist to get the proper treatment and answers I needed. Poor billing practices: The billing department is highly disorganized. I was seen in September 2025, but I did not receive a bill until 7 months later in April 2026. The statement indicates that my insurance company communicated what I owed back in November 2025. It is incredibly frustrating and confusing why it took the office so long to send the bill after that information was already provided. Summary: I had high expectations for this office based on positive reviews, but unfortunately, my experience fell short. The lack of patient care and communication, combined with a disorganized billing department, makes it difficult to recommend this practice.
