When your body speaks to you, listen. Especially when you get older. I'm on my feet a lot and have experienced several foot/leg issues where eventually it was resolved. But step in diabetes, where overlooking issues under this condition can be tragic. Just last week at my part time job, a customer came in and I recognized his voice as he's a regular. But I didn't immediately recognize him as he lost a lot of weight and clearly had mobility issues. When I blurted out his name, indeed it was him. He told me he was diabetic and ignored a toe injury where a life-changing procedure slowed him down. For a couple of weeks now, I had what seemed like a blister on one of my toes where it now became 2. It was painful to walk in shoes and when I showed it to family members where one is doing her residency at a large hospital and my sister has been an RN for over 30 years, was told it could be either a blister, callous or wart. I, too, am diabetic and fears crossed my mind. My sister strongly suggested I have it investigated immediately. Step in Ricky Sukita (RS). RS is a podiatrist who has been in practice for over 35 years. Located in Kuakini Physician's Exchange, the office of RS is on the 11th floor. It was so nice to make an appointment where his staff immediately answered the phone when I called. Their records show this wasn't my first time to the office, but I was impressed on the service and professionalism extended to me. I addressed to the staff of my issue and after confirming my address and health insurance plan, I was escorted to an empty office where several minutes later RS showed up. Words cannot express my relief where it was disclosed my issue was callous development. I've had warts before where it was painful and took a long time to resolve. After assessing my regular work and leisure regimen, RS explained of my current condition and how this came all about. He also advised me how to handle this situation and provided me with protection. I appreciated how he informed me and educated me where I understood and didn't feel incompetent that led to my condition. Overall, solid 5-stars to RS and his staff. From making the appointment to walking out of the office after my appointment, there weren't hassles nor stress. I understand RS is taking new patients. Absolutely fantastic. I broke my foot and got in same day. No wait, and reception was incredibly kind and helpful as I was not a resident of Hawaii. Speaking with a doctor who knew about my rare connective tissue disorder and how that connected to the injuries on my foot was so refreshing. Quick X-ray and he was able to decipher old fractures from new ones. Gave me a boot and told me to come back in 3 weeks if it still hurt. Gave me a short boot (awesome) and went above and beyond giving me the name of an orthopedist. Going off Yelp alone made me nervous, as I am not from Oahu, and see doctors by referral, but thank you Yelp. Wonderful and experienced doctor with rare knowledge and a wonderful experience (except for the injury part). If you need a podiatrist - look no further. read more

First experience with a podiatrist, and I'm so glad my PCP referred me to Dr. Sukita. Coincidentally my friend also recommended him. He has a really awesome bedside manner for a doctor. Very personable and humorous for a doctor who specializes in feet. He took one look at my toe and new right off the bat what the problem was, and proceeded to work his magic. I have been seeing Dr Ricky Sukita since 2017 and I'll admit, he is a great doctor and I raved about him to all my co workers and on yelp as well. Unfortunately, past few months, I have been very disappointed at his staff and billing department. I noticed a bill on top of my usual bill that I didn't understand and wanted the simple explanation. and I actually went back to doctor's office to talk to receptionist about my bill. When I went to the office, receptionist told me that they have a new billing department and they might have made the mistake and told me to talk to the billing office about it so I did. I called the billing office and the person I talked to assured me he would call the doctor's office and will find out what happened and would call me back. I waited a week and never heard from him so I called him back 10 days later and once again, he apologized and reassured me that he would call me back after calling doctor's office to find out what happened. 2 weeks went by and I never heard from him. So I called the billing department again and I was pretty frustrated. I finally got the explanation that I wanted today after multiple calls to billing office and I will make a check today and send it out to them. All I wanted was the explanation of my bill and it should not take them more than 2 months. I found the little tool off Amazon called ZIZZON foot care pedicure callus remover for $8 and it does exactly what Ricky does but it's much easier and takes 10 minutes to do it on my own. It doesn't cost $400 every visit either. I'm sad to say, I will never visit this office again. Not because of Ricky because I still think that he's a great doctor but I do think it's little expensive to visit him for $400 every visit just to shave off callus off my big toe on my foot. read more

02/26/20 After 2 years, I'm back. This time it's because my foot kept hurting anytime I wore heels, even little ones! Of course I should have gone to sooner instead of buying those expensive shoes. Dr Sukita examined my foot and asked me questions, checked my toes and gave me a diagnosis and told me that it is treatable! Yay! I think I'm on my way to painless walking. Dr Sukita is the best! Knowledgeable, friendly and efficient! Whew! No surgery. Dr Sukita is very comfortable and sensible. If no sore, no need cut! Dr. Sukita is amazing!! If I could give him 10 stars I would. I have dealt with a painful bump under my 2nd toe for 12 years. It has been constantly misdiagnosed that I just gave up and figured I would have to get surgery soon. He immediately said I have a neuroma and that there was a shot that I could have that would be directly into the neuroma. It took the pain away immediately and now I can walk without limping. This has been a tough year: broken freezer/fridge, fried A/C board, busted pipe in wall, career promotion was contingent on a test in May (cancelled due to COVID), cancelled trip and loss of money (funeral on the mainland), cancelled cruise (still waiting on refund), lost package deliveries, dealing with challenging people (not going to say where) and now a broken foot. Broken toe to be exact. Don't ask me how it happened. Too embarrassing, and no, I didn't kick someone or something...more like ran into something...like a scale....in the dark. One thing I learned a long time ago, and I should have done sooner, is to go see a specialist. At least I made the right decision to choose Dr. Ricky Sukita (thanks Yelp and thanks mom). Do I sound like a commercial? I love my PCP very much but he is not a specialist and I don't expect him to be, so after a few weeks when my pain did not get better, I went to see Dr. Sukita. Turns out I was doing stupid things, like trying to exercise my toes and flex and extend them (note: do not do this!!). I also buddy taped toe together right after the fracture (not a good idea). He explained everything thoroughly, showed me a skeletal foot model and showed me how to tape the foot without buddy taping yet provide support. He spent time and actually listens (it's hard to pretend to be really listening when you're not). Dr. Sukita gave options for follow-up if my condition did not improve. He also gave me the tape so that I wouldn't have to hobble myself to the local CVS, thanks Dr. Sukita! read more

Dr. Sukita helped me & my husband years ago & did a terrific job ( it's obvious he's knowledgeable) but we hadn't seen him in years & my 8yo was having problems with her ankle. He was very good with her & diagnosed the problem quite quickly after examining her & explained everything to all 3 of us very thoroughly and in a way even my daughter could understand. I asked for recommendations on therapeutic options & he gave her what she needed, commenting that pediatric sizes might be hard to come by. This put all of us at ease & my daughter walked out of there with a new bounce in her step, excited to try her new orthotics & hopeful her pain would be resolved! I had really bad pain in my heel with each step. It was because I had a toe injury which lasted for 6 weeks and made me shift all my weight to my heel. Dr. Sukita was very personable, explained the problem in detail, what I needed to do, where I could get the items I needed. I would definitely see him again for any issues with my feet. Thank God for Yelp we found Dr. Sukita. So I will give you guys a brief overview. I work as a night shift Nurse Aide at the state's busiest and only trauma center here in Honolulu. One of the biggest challenge is to be able to stay on your feet most of the time lifting/transferring/pulling/pushing patients furnitures and other heavy objects. This past year while working i notice sharp pain on the middle of my left foot to the heel but kinda ignored it thinking it will eventually go away after resting it. But these past weeks i feel the pain is worse to the point that I can't put weight on it. So yesterday I went to Urgent care to get it checked. I am not really satisfied with the result. My husband on the other hand went on Yelp and has been trying to call other podiatrists to see if any of them has available schedules. Luckily, the number one on the list called us back and got us an appointment today. We went to see Dr. Sukita and I was really grateful we did. He is really sweet, knowledgeable, and professional. He asked me how and when I started feeling the pain and so I gave him the overview of how and what happened. He then begin to start explaining what was going on, and yes he confirmed that it is indeed plantar fasciitis. He was so thorough with his explanation and the plan of care. Because my pain level is 10/10 he offered cortisone injection and of course I said yes. He proceeded with it, then he gave me some insert for my shoes to try on, and explained what I need to do. (b) He broke down everything in a way that I could understand. (c) No sales pitch, but he did tell me where to find the cheapest supports. (d) Just a nice and down-to-earth doctor. He was sincere and seemed to genuinely care about my health. What I was amazed at was his concern that I get better. He is very easy to talk to and very gentle doctor. I had two ingrown toenails at two different times and he took care of it with no problems. There was instant relief as soon as the procedure was done. His office is easy to find and there is ample parking. He also validates for parking. The cost for parking with validation was $3, which is pretty good for hospital parking. The wait time in his office was also minimal. His nurse who preps you is so sweet and nice. She also has a great sense of humor and she knows how to make you comfortable and alleviate any nervousness.
