It was busy, so you could tell that it is a popular spot. It is set on the river that runs through the village so you can enjoy your breakfast while the water slowly flows by you. This area and the cafe are beautiful. The staff were very nice, friendly and helpful. Even though they were very busy, they showed no signs of being annoyed or overwhelmed. They seemed genuinely happy you were there and eager to make sure you were happy with your stay. We ordered the sausage rolls and a Cornish pastry and they were very good. I'm sure there are a lot of amazing restaurants in the place, but you would not go wrong stoping by here to grab a coffee and a bite to eat.

But The Granary is one of my favourite spots and one that could be easily missed if someone didn't tell you about it. I've been several times - for breakfast and for lunch and was struck each time by what a great value it is. Good food, plenty of it and a very reasonable price. Last visit - a lunch visit - I had the chicken mayo, bacon & pesto panini while my husband had the Granary club. We split an order of chips (because an order of chips is pretty darned sizable). Both sandwiches were delicious and very satisfying. The staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing is any trouble. Why is it so easy to miss? Because it is on Butcher's Lane (just off the marketplace as well as opening on to the High Street) and the lane can look at first glance as if it's just the back of buildings but no - there's shops and eateries down there. Go on and head down to the Granary. You won't be disappointed.

The lunch menu looked very interesting with much of the ingredients coming from the Deli shop downstairs, including a selection of tapas and antipasta. They don't open evenings yet but they are hoping to in the future. Someone told us the chef used to work at Hyltons, and has obviously brought some ideas with him, as well as the quality of food. The deli shop has some wonderful cheeses to chose from. They used to sell artisan bread but nfortunately they can;t get a supply anymore - which is a real shame. We'll be off to try lunch someday soon and will tell you how that goes.

The joint wasn't exactly jumping because of the general maturity of the clientelle but the music was getting feet tapping around the room and a rumble of sympathetic harmony from those who could remember the tunes if not the words. The food was of very good quality and enjoyed by all who were at our table. The starters were varied and the main dish of duck and pork with seasonal vegetables very well cooked and presented. Sweets were fruit marengue and a chocolate coffee orange fondant which was very acceptable, All in all it was a good family evening out and enjoyed by us all. Thank you!

I selected the Small Farmhouse breakfast which consisted of sausage, bacon, egg, hash brown, mushrooms, baked beans and a slice of toast with butter and jam. My husband selected the Farmhouse breakfast which had the same ingredients but twice as much. Of special note are the sausages which were very meaty and that the breakfast was cooked to perfection with none of the grease that can often be present. They also serve a full range of hot drinks so I was able to select a decaf latte. The menu includes some sandwich-type options and there were a few scones etc. for those who don't have our appetites. Service was fast for us. We arrived soon after they opened so only about 4 tables were already filled, so I cannot speak to service speed when they are busy, but they looked to have plenty of staff on duty.
