I'd argue the baristas here are even more skilled than those at the Monmouth at the Borough Market in London. I've been several times and can't seem to get enough. It'll take a few minutes for your drink, but it's absolutely worth the wait. As if that weren't enough, they actually make some pretty delicious sandwiches as well. I had a free-range chicken with lemon mayo that was something special, and my better half had an equally tasty egg and watercress. It seems that Box Brownie can do no wrong!

It was by pure chance that just as I passed by McKechnies, my eye was caught by two phrases "independent" and "Best Cappuccino in the Midlands & North UKBC Heat" (or something to that effect). I had attended the UK Barista Championship South East Heat a few weeks early (again, by pure chance), and, knowing how intense a competition it was, decided to go in and sample the wares. The barista on duty was Kim, the one who'd taken part in the UKBC. I chatted with her about how pressurising it must have been. As it turned out, it was her first time taking part, so kudos for achieving such a result under such intense conditions! As expected, the coffee was pretty darn good. While I was a tad disappointed that I didn't get a pretty squiggle (aka latte art) on top of my foam, the quality of the beverage couldn't be denied. Or maybe there was latte art but it'd disappeared by the time I prised the lid off my takeaway cup of coffee (which does happen, I'll admit). McKechnies uses beans from James' Gourmet Coffee Company, an artisan coffee company based in Hertfordshire. The coffee shop on the whole was warm and welcoming too. Lots of brown (i.e. wood) and felt like a nice place to get away from it all in case you're overwhelmed by the sheer number of tourists outside. All in all, a definite place to visit if you're in this arae.

A very nice lady (Chloe) in Nash's House (one of the aforementioned closets, although the house is apparently not there any more. Long story. Visit Stratford if you want to know more) recommended Crabtree & Evelyn. "But we want tea, not skin lotion!" we barked, yet Chloe was resolute. "No!" was her riposte. "Make thee to Crabtree & Evelyn," she commanded, even pronouncing the ampersand in full, if you don't mind, "for their teas are indeed high, and their scones laden with clotted cream from the most clotted of available cows." (I apologize for the flowery prose. Stratford does this to a person. Be thankful it's not iambic pentameter.) So it turns out that upstairs from the lotion shoppe there is a petite and very lovely tea shoppe, the whole thing being in a house of some historic significance...just like every other joint in town. We ordered teas, coffees, and juices for our troop, and a selection of delicious confections: Millionaire Shortbread (shortbread with caramel and chocolate on it), Victoria Sponge, fudge brownie, and scones both with and without clotted cream, jam, and butter. Ridiculous. Absolutely bloody ridiculous, that's what it was. Good, that is, my dear friends. If you've got tastebuds, they're crying out for a bit o' this delectable treatery. The cream justifies the existence of bovines worldwide; the jam is a poem to preserved fruit; the lemon curd is a soliloquy on citrusy stuff from Kurdistan (probably); and the scones -- one of which *had sultanas in it* (be still my beating and somewhat-more-lard-laden heart) -- were warm and moist just exactly where they should be moist. Heaven. And we had the added theater of being chased around the joint by a persistent bee, for whom no manner of tempting with a pot of jam would do, until he was sprayed with disinfecting soap and smushed by one of the nice tearoom gals. Quite an experience, no? Visit, and be well. You can even buy lotion to deal with the (completely worth it) cellulite that will be an inevitable consequence. (JOKE!)

The scissors used were placed on the floor next to the bean bag and stepped on more than once. When we left they were still there. It does make you wonder what goes on out of sight, I like kitchen equipment clean please!

As a regular visitor to the wonderful place of Stratford-Upon-Avon as a shopping area and 'oggle'…read morezone, a fresh beverage or caffeine fix is a must in the (what can be) hectic high street. This certain Costa Coffee branch are very friendly, I have never been served without a smile from the Barista. They always produce your beverages and food very quickly and efficiently, and the queue/line system means the ordering process, and picking up your drink afterwards, is not too confusing. As a regular customer to many different Costa Coffee branches, I have to say that this particular branch is yet to be beaten by their quality of drinks. However, there are a couple of downsides to the place. To cater for the large amounts of tourists which come and go throughout the day, this Costa branch has to accommodate many tables and chairs. This means that it's quite hard to get around, and I have seen people spill their drinks everywhere due to trying to manoeuvre themselves around the sitting area. This problem however, is also ironically replaced by the other downside of the place. It's far too busy and cramped in. Mums and Dads ask their children to 'nab' spots for them, and tourists enjoying their iphone and shopping whilst sitting down means many stay for hours on end, leaving people who have just ordered drinks to stand around and wait, making the place even MORE crowded. Besides these two points, this Costa Coffee branch is one of my favourites, and at the end of the day - it's the service and the quality of their products which count.
