We hired Buttercup Catering originally for our wedding in October of 2024 but had to postpone. They were so kind to allow us to reschedule the date and not lose our deposit which was a huge relief and were available for our new date in June 2025. Our wedding was a 35-40 person intimate event at a historic venue in Downtown Redlands. Instead of a full on meal service, we wanted a heavy grazing table which worked out perfectly with the time of day and style of event. The Mezze table was phenomenal with meatballs, cheeses, charcuterie, delicious puff pastry bites, roasted vegetables, hummus, crackers, THE BEST olive tapenade and so much more. I've used Buttercup catering for several events in the past few years: a buffet 40-person baby shower, a sit-down 30-person wedding shower, a sit-down formal 30-person 80th birthday party, and most recently as 12-person buffet/sit-sit down bridal party. Wait, no, really...I can't even!! I was extremely privy to be able to eat a quiche made by Buttercup catering last weekend! OMG!! THE FREAKIN' BEST EVER!!! (Review based on 3.5 stars) I just experienced Buttercup Catering at Alosta Brewing Company in Covina on 1/8/15. Every day Alosta Brewing Company is open (they are only open Thursday through Sunday), they always have a featured food vendor since they only serve drinks and no food. As the featured food vendor at the brewery, there was only 4 items they were serving that included cajun fish tacos, bacon wrapped jalapenos, roast squash flatbread with bacon and pecan and lastly grilled chocolate sandwich. We ended up getting: Cajun Fish Tacos- ($6 for two small tacos) I really liked the fish taco that I ate (my husband got the other). The cajun flavors were good and not spicy at all (thank goodness because I don't eat spicy foods). I liked the fresh tasting fish but wished there were more fish. Also wished these tacos were either bigger or would have liked to have had 3 or 4 tacos served for the $6 I paid. Grilled Chocolate Sandwich- ($4 for one small sandwich) I really wanted to order this because this sandwich sounded interesting to me. And this sandwich didn't disappoint me much (well other than the size for the price). The crisp bread had a spread of chocolate spread (not Nutella because there was no hazelnut flavor to it. I think the spread they used is the new Hershey chocolate spread or similar). There was also a drizzle of honey on top of this chocolate sandwich as well. I would definitely make a chocolate sandwich like this at my home (which I will most likely will try to recreate this weekend). After I paid $10 cash (tax was included in the price.. they were also cash only for the evening), we sat back at our table as we were told that they would bring out our order to us. I think we probably waited somewhere between 10-15 minutes (?), which wasn't long to us (but we both did eat a little bit before coming to the brewery because no one wants to drink on an empty stomach). Buttercup Catering was only scheduled to be at the brewery from 5-9 pm and because their cajun fish tacos were so popular, they ran out probably around 7:30 or 8 pm (glad we came early). I really didn't see anyone order their bacon wrapped jalepenos, just mostly their fish tacos and roast squash flatbread. Although the food we had was pretty good, I thought the portions were small for the price they charged. Also there was only a limited selection of 4 items to choose from. I think if they had a 5th or 6th item on the menu and the price would either be $1 cheaper or the portion to be a bit bigger, I would give a higher rating. But because I know their food does taste good, I would definitely like to check them out again at another type of event in the future. read more

However, our club used this service for a luncheon of 60 and 90% of the members were highly upset that the chicken was half cooked, the rice was hard, the carrots were undercooked, the lemonade was not sweet. The utensils were wooden, with no knives for the chicken. There was no butter for the rolls. It was a disastrous experience, unbelievable in fact. I would never recommend this caterer and the group were absolutely disappointed in the food that they were not able to consume/enjoy. We hired buttercup catering for my dad's funeral. We only had about a week and a half to plan so they took us on short notice - we paid in advance. Our party size was 60 people. Our agreement with Buttercup was to be setup from 11-2. The staff did not show up until 10:50. It's currently 11:31 and they are still setting up. Many of our guests have left at this point. I'll update the review when we have the opportunity to eat. It's 11:39 and the food is ready. The staff is friendly and very apologetic. The food display looks great. The food was good. The problem I had with Buttercup was their poor customers service. They failed to show up as promised to pick up their dishes and linens after my event was over so I had to wait all by myself for them to show up for over two hours. When I called and asked where they were I was told the employee had probably gotten distracted. I asked the company for a refund on the pickup fee, they said they would get a check in the mail...but the check never arrived. I wrote to Kelly regarding an event at my home asking her to consider a partial refund. I never heard back. She dropped the ball in several ways. I hosted my friends wedding reception at my home. I met her once during the planning phase. I was there when they discussed the start time of 3:00p and an extended cocktail hour of 3:00 -4:30. I also heard that she was going to charge my friend $600 for table decorations. There were only eight tables of ten, so I thought they would be amazing decorations. Their event was not the stress-free event it should have been for them. I guess that's why she didn't Instagram our event. She was too busy at the other weddings she was catering and there was nothing photo-worthy at our event. The catering arrived at my house at 1:45p for an event that started at 3:00p. It would have taken the entire catering team to hustle in order to get cocktail hour to start on time, chairs for dinner set up and the tables decorated. As guests arrived, there was no movement on setting up the cocktail hour. When asked, Kelly's business partner (Kelly was nowhere to be found) stated she was given a start time of 4:00p. At that point, she was told the event started at 3:00p, you would think she would kick it into high gear and get things going. But, that didn't happen. It was as if the event was a last minute, thrown-together task. Nobody wants their wedding to feel like an after thought. Beyond the late start, there were several problems. My guests had to help set up the chairs for dinner in order to make the 5:00p dinner start time. The table decorations were sad. A lantern with no candle and sprigs of rosemary and eucalyptus laying on the table. Wilted within minutes. The glasses for water and lemonade were shot glasses at best. We provided the ice chest to keep the drinks cold. I'm not sure how that was going to happen otherwise. My kitchen was a mess! The stove and the floor were filthy. What I thought would be simple prep, was cooking, washing dishes and using my cooking utensils in my kitchen. Both of my restrooms were taken over by the catering staff getting dressed. Both the delivery and pick up of the tables and chairs was late. The pick up was after 6:00p when I was given a time of between 3:00p and 4:00p. At the very least, my friends should not have to pay the decorations fee of $600. It would go a long way in making us feel that this was a one-time problem that happened to impact our event. It would be gesture of good will that Buttercup Catering cares about its clients. But, no. Not even a response. Kelly did speak with my friends but offered no apologies. She did say that her business partner was no longer with the company. Not sure what that has to do with anything. Accept responsibility for your mistake and make things right with your clients. read more

Buttercup Catering is a foodies delight! Fresh, Creative and they have me wanting more :) Their food is amazing and so is their presentation. I just attended a wedding at an airplane hangar at the chino airport called Cal Areo, a really unique one of a kind wedding/ party venue. They served Salmon and Braised Beef with two different kinds of salads, even the dressings served were delcious-ness!! just perfectly paired with the salads. One salad even had fresh raspberries on it. The wild rice blend was so moist and good, and the veggies - baby squash, carrots and grilled asparagus - YUM! Chef Kelly & Melissa know what they are doing and are passionate about food and beverages! Even their iced tea was sooo good and the Chafers and serving trays were beautiful. Based on the great Yelp reviews, I contracted with Kelly at Buttercup Catering for my daughter's bridal shower - 28 guests in my backyard on an August Saturday. I was very impressed with the website, the all in one offering (food, decorations, floral arrangements, table/chair and place setting rental) and with Kelly's responsiveness. She was very agreeable, her menu was varied and she accommodated every request - including volunteering to decorate and setting up the afternoon before the event - that's the good news. The bad news - she did not deliver on a few of her commitments, which created some chaos at the beginning of the shower and quite a bit of stress for me. The critical mistake: I had rented from Buttercup Catering, 28 Champagne Flutes - this was a Mimosa - Breakfast taco themed bridal shower. Kelly decided that her Champagne flutes were too small and brought white wine glasses instead, which was not what I ordered or wanted, requiring a trip by my older daughter to Target to purchase 28 champagne flutes at the last minute, delaying the setting up of the Mimosa bar. And as we all know, when guests start to arrive, you want to offer them something to drink right away to help smooth the beginning of the party. Other observations: Except for her chef, who was cooking the eggs for the tacos, her staff seemed untrained. The flower arrangements were at least 2-3 days old, her creative abilities for decorating were limited, she substantially underestimated the time to decorate and set up the event - guest were arriving and set up was still in process. On the good news side: Everyone enjoyed the food and there was plenty of it. The table settings were beautiful. In summary - Buttercup Catering's greatest strength, their "all in one" service offering, was also their greatest weakness. read more

Chef Kelly is very friendly and easy to work with and she came up with really good ideas that fit our venue and the type of event we wanted to have. Our tables were elegantly set. Buttercup Catering was recommended to us with less than a week before my son's graduation party. Kelly was really helpful pulling everything together so quickly. The food was absolutely fantastic. The pulled pork, tri tip, tomato tarts, potato salad and some strange combination of watermelon-cucumbers and mint were all standouts! The baker she works with got us a fantastic cake that looked great and tasted even better (lemon/blueberry). Buttercup Catering catered my wedding on April 1st and Kelly and her staff did an awesome job! First and foremost, the food was absolutely amazing and so delicious. She provided appetizers, salads, entrees, and all the beverages for the evening (I'm a pastry chef, so I made my own wedding cake or else Buttercup would've been tasked with that too!). The whole process from start to finish was so easy, Kelly was extremely helpful and always quick to respond to emails and happy to answer any questions I had. On top of the food, Buttercup also provided all our linens, place settings, glassware, servers, and a bartender. And at the last minute I asked her if she could get her florist to put together a spray for the top of our ceremony arbor, and she was able to arrange it perfectly.
