We spent the New Year's weekend in Marietta, and we were fortunate that the Busy Bee was just down the street from our airBnB. We went there all three mornings and everything we ordered was amazing. Ever since I was a small child (about 2 years old - Now 28), I've been coming here. It's changed so much over the years but only for the better. Old days it was corn beef hash out of a can (don't knock it it's amazing) and the little plastic jellies on all the tables. Really old school. Now it's farm to table AMAZING fresh local foods. Only the real OGs know you used to have to cut thru the kitchen and walk upstairs to use the bathroom. The food here is incredible especially the biscuits and gravy, and the skillets and the service is great too. This small, cozy 49 seater is located in the Harmar District right along the water and is easily accessible from downtown by the pedestrian-only Harmar Rail-Trail Muskigum River Bridge or of course the Putnam Street Bridge. You could easily walk right by it for it only has a small sign hanging above the front door of what looks like an average two-story along the street. Overall there aren't many choices downtown for breakfast or brunch, especially on a Sunday. Busy Bee's breakfast menu features many combo plates and a la cart sides. My choice, the Busy Bee Big Breakfast, featured two perfectly cooked over-easy eggs, a hand-patted sausage patty, two stripes of bacon, two slices of ham, hash browns and a biscuit with their sausage gravy-all for $8 and change. The back of the breakfast menu featured various pancakes and waffles. I sampled a blueberry pancake-full of berries. Wall boards featured breakfast and lunch specials, including a walnut pie for dessert. Sadly I did not no indulge-no room. Afterwards you can waddle out and visit the antique shops or Whipple's Whimsical Toys- a toy store inside a train. As a visitor from Columbus, I was impressed by this diner. The food was good, the service very friendly and the atmosphere perfect. We went for lunch, and I had the ruben, and it was really great. Really. One of the best rubens in my life. Oh, I also had the sweet potato fries, and they were served with a sweetened mayo dipping sauce that was delightful. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. It is small but cosy. Overall, our prices meal was a bit pricey, since I had to order my side separate from the sandwich. This is a great place for breakfast. Any place you can order grits is good in my book! Definitely diner food and the place to go when you are craving waffle house-style food. Very quaint and not a huge amount of seating, but you could go with your immediate family or a group of 5 or so and find a place to sit. Not too expensive either. I had a trip that didn't go well, and I ended up in Marietta OH unable to drive any further and crashed for the night. Woke up the next morning hungry, checked Yelp and found out that this place existed. It was awesome. I went in, the waitress immediately made me feel like I was at home. It had a nice easy blue collar home cooking vibe going on. Some locals were talking farming at a table across the aisle from me. I got their spicy skillet, which is a recent enough addition to their menu that it isn't on their website. I don't remember everything it had. There was an over easy egg, a ham steak, some potatoes, some jalapeno cornbread (mildly sweet) and some sort of spicy chipotle sauce. The portion sizes were not huge. If they'd been any smaller I might have downgraded this review to a four, and I could've scomped up another portion half again as big as that skillet. But you know what, a working man doesn't need a giant breakfast sloshing around in his belly and once it had a chance to settle I was full til lunchtime. Not a complaint, just a note. Who knows if I'll ever be in Marietta at breakfast time again, but I will absolutely give this place another go if I ever get a chance. read more

The food was in good portions and diner style. I had the pancake with ham and egg based off other reviews and it was very good, I was only able to eat half of it. Went on a Sunday and the seating was about half full at 9:30am which was apparently too busy for the kitchen to handle, it took forty min for us to get our food. But apparently if you know the proprietor like the table behind us you can get your food in 5min or less. The waitresses were working really hard and were clearly helping one another out which was nice to see. They were great to the customers and made sure there was fresh coffee. For those curious they do except credit cards now. I would be happy to go again but might see how the speed of service is on a weekday. read more

We were visiting from out of town and decided to stop at Busy Bee for breakfast before our 3 hour drive home. Based on reviews this place sounded like a cute family owned breakfast spot. When we arrived there were a few tables open - one that would even fit our group of 6. However, the hostess/waitress that helped us proceeded to seat another table of 6 that walked in after us and didn't even recognize us or apologize for the delay. Instead, she asked us to wait outside (while it was pouring rain) because we were being a fire hazard. We agreed and stood outside to wait in the rain. Once the larger table finished we went back in. The same waitress did not even make eye contact with us or speak to us. Apparently our table was ready and instead of seating us someone just came up after about 5 min and said "you know you can sit down your table has been ready for awhile now." Interesting...no one ever contacted us, looked at us, or spoke to us while we waited for almost 1.5 hours total. Once we were seated our waitress (a different lady) was pretty attentive to us after we sat and waited about 10 more minutes for her to take our drink order. Overall our experience with this waitress was much better than the first. I suggest whoever the manager is talk to this woman as she was extremely rude and even rolled her eyes at us, avoided talking to us, or helping us in any way. At first we thought the hostess/waitress was hostile due to short staff but in total we saw about 3 waitresses and a few other cook staff for a place that holds less than 50 people. Once we finally got our food we were really pleased. The food was delicious! I got a skillet with the homemade wheat bread on the side. It was so good and everything tasted fresh. Even the coffee/cream was local and delicious. However, not sure I would recommend this place if someone was asking me. I honestly have never been treated that way at a restaurant before. We were in town for a week for a class reunion. This is the third visit to the busy bee. The staff is super friendly and efficient. And the food is amazing! We split the meatloaf sandwich which is to die for along with fresh cut fries. As a matter of fact, we came back the next day and had it again. Everything and I mean everything including the ketchup and mustard is homemade. So I had to do breakfast. Food wasn't very good and staff seemed to be overwhelmed and unorganized. I got the Patty Melt with french fries. The burger was cooked well done, was dry, and the cheese was not melted. The french fries were under cooked still somewhat mushy inside and had excess cooking oil on them and on the plate. Not at all impressed with this restaurant, would not recommend and will not be returning. P.S. my wife & i went out and about late this morning (Sat.25.March.2017), we headed up into Harmar Village in MariettaOh, decided to stop by Busy Bee Resturant to get us both bite to eat, it seems the restaurant had recently been expanded, which made it little more comfortable (but still not enough tables & chairs, due that customers had to stand and wait a while for place to set & eat), if coming on a Saturday be pre paired to wait a good bit for your food to arrive to your table, (once you set down it takes the waitresses about 8-10minutes to approach your table and take your order & then it takes another 25-30min for food to arrive to your table, so your looking at about 40minutes once you set down & food to arrive) both waitresses & server stay constantly busy, they are friendly, but, once your food arrives the waitresses do not come back to check and see if you are in need of anything, they come back once you are done to give you the receipt, also noticed that the waitresses was upset with each other by there attitude & discussions they had out in front of customers. i ordered the wimpy burger w/fries, the burger was very dry, cheese was not melted just wast not tasty or juicy at all, when bite into it very hard to pull away due to cheese not being melted, fries was very greasy and some was not even fried at all, last thing is the ketchup had no taste at all (strange). my wife order was the cornbeefhash with potatoes & 2 eggs sunny side up w/wheat toast, her complaint was the eggs was suppose to be sunny side up but turned out slimy, nothing close to sunny side up, no season & no taste at all, not very good breakfast. I believe next time in the area, we will be skipping the Busy Bee and more likely find a different resturant to eat at. read more

This is the most reasonably priced local place to go for breakfast and lunch. As soon as you open the door you are met with a cheerful atmosphere and great food. This is a great spot to just stop in and have some delicious coffee. I always order the grand bee which, at first, I assumed came with a choice of sausage, bacon, or ham but it comes with all three! Stopped in for the first time today. Old dinner seemed to have mostly local folk but they have a map showing visitors from all over the world. Asked for a breakfast recommendation. The waitress suggested their French Toast which was excellent. Came with two eggs, choice of meat. (I got the fresh local sausage patties as big as burgers.) All very delicious. Endless coffee is extra but nothing special. Service was prompt and friendly. Waitress seemed to be having a bad morning but was nice to me. Food took about 10-15 minutes to receive. Worst meal I have had in years. Chicken basket ($6.50) was a joke. A few pieces of formerly frozen boneless chicken strips. Tasteless. Mealy. Very poor quality. French Fries were also not good.
