A fantastic place, with many interesting spots to visit in Lewisburg, and very good fishing in the Greenbrier River and Second Creek. Being off the beaten path, it's easy to forget about life in the "real world." It was so quiet and peaceful; you only hear the sounds and see the sights of nature that have been lost in far too many places. I stayed in the Farmhouse Inn, the main house of the resort. It was clean, tastefully designed and well-furnished. I was the only one staying in this space, so again, it was very quiet. I spent a few hours outside in the evening chatting with a few other guests who were staying on the grounds. We sat out on the patio area during this time, and even decided to have our dinner there, as the weather was beautiful. While we ate, several deer payed a visit to the grounds to get dinner for themselves. Speaking of dinner, it was fantastic. I had a fresh salad, that I can only assume came from the organic garden on the grounds. Additionally, I had a vegetable lasagna and finished my meal with some delicious apple cake. Since I was leaving early the next morning for work, a breakfast basket was prepared for me with a variety of baked goods, orange juice, fruit, and a serving of the best baked oatmeal I ever had. Gail and Gary, the owners, were fantastic as well. They were extremely helpful from booking through my checkout. There were several emails sent to me prior to my visit with all the directions and information I needed to know for my arrival. Since I was arriving during their off hours, they prepared a binder for me that got me to my room and settled in until we had a chance to meet later in the evening. If you are interested in connecting with the outside world during your stay, cell service is spotty. I was told that only some cell service work there. However, there is a public phone that anyone can access if needed at no cost. In addition, the Farmhouse Inn has wifi. I don't believe this is true for all the outer houses. But since you come by the Farmhouse for meals, and any other time you want to, it shouldn't be an inconvenience. Overall, I have absolutely no complaints. I would HIGHLY reccomend this place if you're in the area.

Christian, our waiter at the restaurant, was very nice and accommodating. The property itself is beautiful and historic. We booked a history tour by Gator and our guide, Beau, was knowledgeable and welcoming. We loved exploring the property and learning its history and seeing all the places where Dirty Dancing was filmed. I highly recommend Mountain Lake Lodge.

We barely saw a soul besides the few workers. When we checked in the night manager was very kind and helpful getting us a few things that shared the dirty dance spots and scavenger hunt. My mom and I enjoyed talking about the spots. The room was very underwhelming, the door wasn't shut all the way when we went to it anyone could have been in and out of the room so that was really weird. The room seemed kinda run down. The bed frames were very wiggly and squeaky. With not having any activities or anything to do it would have been nice to have a tv. Everything was closed by or before 8pm. None of our phones were working great. We pretty much didn't have any service. They still had the Christmas lights on the building from winter. They were banging against the window the entire night. It was very loud and kept me awake almost all night. The next day it was raining and they were expecting snow that night. So not the best weather to explore. Again it was a new desk manager in the morning and he was very helpful and kind. Unfortunately they were working on the back driveway so the only way was to walk all the way around several buildings or to carry all of your stuff down the stair. Thank goodness for the front desk manager carrying several things for us. But this was massively frustrating not to be able to use that area or see the few spots from the movie. The resort has history and is very pretty but definitely isn't for everyone. We live far away and made a special trip so it was disappointing to say the least for the price especially. To be able to share the experience with my mom is what I will cherish. But I wouldn't go or stay again.

Stayed here one night while passing through. What a lovely experience!…read more As soon as I made the reservation, I had welcome texts from the owners highlighting the area and my stay. They are not staffed 24/7 but they are very prompt with responding to text messages if you have any questions. I stayed in the Kennedy Cottage which was its own private small space away from the main building. The room was lovely and it was nice to have the privacy and not worry about shared walls. They prepared a wonderful hot breakfast in the morning with fruit and a tartin- kind of an open-faced sandwich. My only complaint is the parking is very awkward, especially if you don't have a compact car, but they have made the most of the landscape.

Stumbled on this gem a few months ago and have tried to be here every month since. From the baby grand in the foyer to the comfortable wrap-around front porch, every detail has been thought of for a memorable stay. A bespoke breakfast experience takes place in the toile -covered sunroom with some of the best coffee and homemade yogurt I've ever had. I've stayed in the Martha Washington room a few times because it has everything I need--the perfect mattress, a view overlooking the garden, giant soaking tub, complimentary water and a balcony for my (first) morning coffee. Honestly, meeting Gary and Kitt gave me the definition of southern hospitality. Kitt took care to ask about my dietary needs and adjusted her breakfast menu accordingly. Not only do I strongly recommend at Least one night here, I'm concerned that they'll be too booked up for me to get back in.

The cabins are all new and build on site. They are all well maintained and very accommodating. The entire resort is clean, quite, and relaxing. You have you privacy when you want it. All the cabins and RV site face the Bluestone River. So when you have ridden all day you can sit back on your picnic table by the fire and relax. While we were there there were three Owls were around us and that morning while sitting outside three deer just walked out of the woods across the river less than 50 yards from us. They just sat there drinking water and eating from the river bank. It was so peaceful. Now.... for me... The best characteristic of this ATV resort is Donna's cooking. Its all fresh prepared home made meals. The breakfast was great.... The hamburgers were great.... But the suppers...... No matter how far away we rode during the day we made SURE we were back in time for supper. Meatloaf and mash potato's on one night, and the next night was roast with cornbread. When we first arrived they had everything in order and it took less than five minutes to get checked in. Their cabins have key less entry systems so you don't have to worry about keeping up with room keys. The shower NEVER ran out of hot water. Kerig in the room with free coffee and coffee in the store. They have a gas pump on site and the prices were the same or close the regular gas station price. They even gave us their contact numbers and assured us that if we had trouble on the trails they would come help any way they could. From now on.... anytime I ride the Hatfield and McCoy trails I will stay at The Mud Pit ATV Resort.
