Backstory: my MacBook had died just after losing its AppleCare. I had an extended warranty through American Express, but it turns out AmEx's extended warranties are a total fraud. The place they had me send the computer (PC Laptops, http://www.pclaptops.com/) straight up lied (said I had tried repairs that I didn't) and said the repair would cost $1700 for a computer that cost ~$1000 when I bought it four years earlier. PC Laptops also told me the motherboard was dead. Fast forward to my sending the computer to CRS. They said the motherboard (AKA logic board) repair would cost $250.00 at most. When they got the computer, they somehow magically fixed it without having to replace the motherboard. They didn't charge me for the repair I had requested since my parts were fine, and the diagnostic fee + shipping came to just over $50. That's right--$50 for a repair for which another place would've gleefully charged me $1700. If you own a Mac, bookmark their site and use it for your repairs. They rule.

I told them that I also ran tests that said hardware problems were detected. They called me and said the operating system had to be reinstalled. Fine, I guess maybe I was wrong I'm not a scientist when it comes to pc's. I pick it up and now I can turn it on, but I CANT DOWNLOAD ANYTHING. Not even chrome, I run a hardware check and see it's detecting hardware problems. I asked the guy if there was hardware problems and he said no. I paid over 200$ for this service. 90$ of that which was ONLY FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC THAT THEY DIDNT EVEN DO RIGHT THEN CHARGED ME ANOTHER 160$ TO REINSTALL MY OPERATING SYSTEM. Instead an adjustment work and as a bonus gained much information about reduced charging rate with long cables and the importance of a good cable that gives a distinct click when connected. I am not certain I am convinced to move from having a pile of cheap throw-away in 3 months cables or a couple really good ones but it is something to think about.
