I've been getting my hair cut by Chuck since 2018! I came across him when he was working at another shop and needed my haircut fixed for my wedding day (hair was chopped and screwed by a cheap barber). I lucked out that day because he usually doesn't take walk-ins but his appointment was running late. I haven't got my haircut anywhere else since. He's a good dude with good intentions and vibes. I don't know how he does it, but he manages to make my oblong shaped head not so oblong looking. And for that, he gets 5 stars!!! read more

Dropped by the other day while out and about, they, Bushwackers Parlor had just opened, didn't see customers yet so I parked in front and went in, asked if I could get a haircut. NO PROBLEM, sure was the response I got from guy working there. I got in the chair and started telling him what I wanted done and he said, I got it, I know what you want. AND HE DID!! Great haircut indeed. Plus, he surfs so I had someone to talk with other than about sports...Don't really give a pooh about sports, but growing up in San Francisco and surfin at Kelly's (when remnants of the pier was still there) back in the 60's) I enjoyed talking about it and the memories it brought back. Great vibes as soon as you walk through the door. I believe Shaine and Anthony also work there and they're very friendly and attentive to others. No cuts from them personally but from observing, they've always given excellent and clean cuts to their customers. For myself, I get my cuts by Joe and he is the man. My head shape (mentioned by my past barbers) is especially hard to cut but he always leaves me with an amazing cut each time. Finding a barber you trust is always a challenging task, but happy to say I found my barber (Anthony). I usually get a mid bald fade and each time I leave feeling like a new man. The other barbers are also super chill, and pretty funny. Parking is there, you might just have to look a bit to see it's on the side of the building. From the time I was a little kid to my last haircut, I had gone to the original location on Sixth not too far away (see my review.) One of the barbers who I had been seeing, Chuck, just moved to this location; i it is every bit as good with a tv & radio & every bit as clean. It is smaller with about four chairs & there is a parking lot. Needless to say, Chuck did a great job as always. So, for wonderful haircuts at reasonable prices in a clean comfortable atmosphere, Bushwacker Shack cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys. read more

This place is a solid five stars. Kuno is an expert in his field and gives great recommendations. If you're unsure of what you want you can talk to him about it and he'll give you an opinion. I've gone to several barbers and nobody has given me as much feedback as he has. He's sharp and hes quick and doesn't skimp on quality. The interior of the place is also nice and calm with music playing softly in the background with a huge area to watch sports while getting a cut. There are roughly two spots in front of the shop to park, otherwise you can park in the lot to the right side in between the tavern and the pet training place. If you do need to come by, book an appointment online in order to get in. Overall 5/5 Solid work and great service from Kuno. Looks like Rick has hung up his shears and retired. Place is boarded up, and it looks like the owner of the property is gutting and remodeling. Sorry to see Rick go, and sad that I didn't get to say 'goodbye' and 'thank you' for 6 years of great haircuts. If anyone knows where to get a good $20 haircut, would love to hear about it. Boondock Barbers in San Carlos has been great so far, but they charge $30 for the same type of cut Rick did for $20. read more

Well, I've been going to this shop for a few years now and they give good haircuts. Be warned though that during COVID, they leave their booking system online with open appointments. Result? You'll get a confirmation email for your booking...you'll plan your whole day around the appointment, drive miles to make it on time only for the shop to be closed. Jeez, just take the time guys to remove your bookings from your own website and Resurva so you don't waste people's time. Don't get me wrong, I like the shop and they give good haircuts, but ownership is somewhat unprofessional in not keeping bookings. Not cool! First time taking my son and Kuno (sp?) did an amazing job on my sons hair!!! Totally recommend and we will be going back!

My boyfriend booked through their online portal for a 7am appointment today. We were worried because the time is early but it was the only available and today is his birthday. He received a confirmation the day before so we felt better about it. Unfortunately my boyfriend has to start off his 30th birthday stood up at the barber shop at 7am. What makes it even worse is he got a "your appointment has been cancelled" email at 7:03am. Yea because cancelling after the appointment is supposed to start really helps.. not. Awesome cut by Robert today! I highly recommend him. My son has long curly hair with shaved sides, he wanted to keep his curls on top but desperately needed a cut. Just phoned this guy up as it's near my work. Probably one of the rudest guys I've talked to recently. Does he even want any new business? He must be very popular and well off as he clearly doesn't need my business! First he tells me he doesn't take walk-ins, then tells me actually it's appointments that he doesn't take. Oh, and he also takes his lunch from 12:30-2pm (busiest time perhaps?). So I say "oh, ok" to which he tales off saying "whatever, bye" and hangs up! Hilarious. Went over the weekend to get a haircut and surprised they weren't practicing safe social distancing considering barbershops have been allowed to open recently and expected they would take the upmost precautions. One of the customers who was talking a lot was not wearing a mask at all, when a barber did not have a customer the barber would take off their mask even with customers around. They also have 3 chairs in the shop and all 3 were filled - not even 6 feet space. According to the color tiered outline, to date, service providers are required to wear face shields and a mask - none of them were not. I really like the early morning weekend appointments as that is the best time to get it out of the way and have the rest of the day and it is difficult for me to get there during the week. I've been going to Rick's shop for as long as he has owned it... 30 years. Like an old-school barber shop, the Shear Shack is a great place to sit down and talk while getting a quality haircut. Rick is a Bay Area native with a wealth of knowledge about what's going on across the Peninsula. He can converse on almost any topic... he likes history and sports... or he can silently clip away while you solve all the world's problems. Customers pick up on Rick's vibe and they help make getting a hair cut at the Shear Shack a positive experience. He's not pushing hair products or featuring boutique ambiance... this is a man's shop not a salon... just great hair cuts. Yeah, you'll get some squirmy kids in the shop once in a while, but most of the kids seem to enjoy the Shear Shack as much as their dads enjoy it. Funny... a couple of low star reviewers did not even get their hair cut by Rick. I'm betting if they returned to the Shear Shack and stopped checking their smartphone and tapping their foot while waiting their turn, their follow-up reviews would be a lot different. I made appointments online with Kuno 2 weeks ago. Got the confirmation and a reminder via email. When my husband and son showed up, Kuno was a NO SHOW. There was another person waiting for him to show up. No phone call, no email. ABSOLUTELY UNPROFESSIONAL. If I could give him "NO STARS" I would. I called and left a message...no return call. Don't go to this barbershop, or atleast the barber Adrian. The reason why I say this is because even though I showed him a photo and told him the description of how I wanted it he decided to change it. In the photo I showed him a low taper fade blowout, and the hair in the picture had length to it About maybe 2-3 inches on it. Some how he left me without even almost a inch on the top, maybe he had to cut it short for whatever reason, but if he had to maybe let the customer know so maybe they can pick a different cut or just not get a haircut instead of doing what you want to it. That's not only it he also messed up my hairline, he pushed it back and made it sideways and the corners of the hairline were not even length nor parallel to each other. Also just to clear this up when I told him what I wanted he told me he could do that, so I assumed that I was gonna get what I wanted, but if he said he could do it then why did he cut it short and mess up my hairline pushing it back and making it sideways. What I think is he was sloppy with his work and I don't think he really try with my haircut. Definitely not going there again. 40$ to have your time wasted for a half-assed haircut that you did't want/asked for. read more

I have been going to Rick at Shear Shack for over six years. He gives me a consistently good haircut and is quite pleasant to chat with mostly about current events and sports. He is knowledgeable about the local bay area teams Giants, Warriors and 49ers especially. Very nice man when he gets to know you, but could have more patience for people that call on the phone right around closing time asking if he will stay open. He starts very early and will take appointments in the morning if you book ahead of time with a very slight surcharge to make the appointment. I notice the two recent reviews that were put off by his brusque manner on the phone. Had they taken the time to actually get a haircut they would have had a great experience. Not the best option without an appointment if you are impatient or really busy as there is usually a wait with people sitting around reading a great selection of magazines. So you either have the time to wait or book ahead for the next morning, Alternately you can go to one of those clip joints where you book online and are hit or miss in getting someone that is experienced and know what they are doing cutting your hair. read more

I wish I could leave less than one star as I am very disappointed. I made an appointment for a hair cut at noon on a Wednesday. On my way there I was contacted by the shop that the barber scheduled to cut my hair had not come in. I was given a choice of coming in that night at six thirty or to reschedule. Although it was going to be fairly late In the evening, I chose to come back that night and see a barber named Kuno. I arrived early while he was working on another customer. He identified me as his next appointment. He was running a little late but I understood that. What happened next was totally unprofessional however. As that customer left he told me that there was a walk-in that had been waiting a while and he was going to take him first. I'm thinking to myself, I came back with a second appointment and now he was bumping me for a walk-in. I WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THIS SHOP EVER AGAIN. Thank goodness that there is a top rated barbershop nearby. I'll be going there instead. . Finally, I am a generous tipper. Guess the barber will never know. read more
