I had my hair cut by the same lady for 10+ years. Unfortunately had issues with scheduling a few too many times and decided to go somewhere new. My dad told me to go to Bob's. Had a big interview the same day and Jenny got me right! I got the job, came back a few months later today for another cut and she gave me what is probably the best haircut I've ever gotten. 11/10. I went back to this barbershop because my regular one barber was out sick. I honestly think your experience and result depends on who you get cutting your hair. I was seated with someone new who gave me the roughest haircut in my life (rough as in, jamming the clippers into my head). What's also hilarious is that I showed the person a photo of what I wanted my hair to be like (literally a picture of me 3 weeks ago, a few days after my previous haircut), with some description on length numbers on side but I didn't get what I asked for. I've been coming to Lulu's place for years, but only now am I finally getting around to writing a review. Despite an obvious change in ownership, she never replaced the old name of this establishment for some reason. But rest assured, Bob is not in the picture anymore. And judging by VERY old reviews, that's a good thing. I've struggled basically my entire life to find a barber/stylist who could cut my hair without causing my hair to stick up on one side, yet have consistently failed time and time again until I eventually found Lulu. Her and her team have always consistently given me great cuts, and per my specifications. Although the prices have gradually risen up over the years due to ever increasing overhead, at $25/cut for a men's haircut, it is definitely still reasonable. Lulu does not normally take appointments, so it is first come, first serve. During this pandemic, she has at times taken down names and numbers of people when the store starts to hit capacity, and offered to call people when the line dies down. Cash only so make sure to bring some. Although I've now moved out of San Mateo, I will still continue to get my cuts here whenever I'm back in the Peninsula visiting family! read more

Do a good job, but lost two stars for inconsistent service. Lulu is very nice, but she doesn't respond to calls or texts anymore, and I showed up Sunday at 9AM like posted on the door and was closed. The window decals say 930 on Sunday, so confused which is which. This is really a 3 star review but I believe during a pandemic we should be kind, and I don't want to hurt small biz. I was walking by and saw them open and the chairs were empty. I asked if they had time for a men's haircut and they said yes. I happened to be with my wife and son who just turned 1, and his hair needed a trim. Lulu the owner cut my hair and my son got his cut right next to me. It was a great first hair cut experience for him. My hair looks great and she did a great job on the details. Worth every penny. Really like these two women who run a great men's barbershop on 25th St. in San Mateo. Super quick and friendly, also seem to be much more available than most other barbershops and are open on Sundays. Most importantly, they don't have the attitude that a lot of barbershops have where you're lucky to get an appointment. These folks actually have a nice service model and are open and direct with you about how long you wait, and when you can come in to get served right away. And, they actually pick up the phone and treat you as a valued customer. Not to mention, I have had a very very good haircut here on a number of occasions. Last weekend, went in for a haircut for both me and my son after we were stood up by another barber. No drama, just good haircuts. read more

For the last 3 years, Lulu(head barber of the shop) has provided me with brilliant haircuts at a much lower rate compared to other barber shops. Thought not expensive, do not expect some cheap price you'd get with some chain. The difference between a chain and here is that at Bob's, you are going to get consistent and quality hair cuts each time your in, unlike many other places.
