Bush's Chicken in West off i-35 is only open for take-out at the moment. Keep in mind they have two lanes for drive-thru so it should be moving along pretty quick. I ordered the 8 piece giblet meal with mac and cheese as the side. It is served with gravy, a roll, and a large drink. There was an extra wait as the kitchen needed to put in a fresh batch of giblets into the fryer which meant my meal came out delicious. They apologized for the long wait but I didn't mind because the food was most definitely enjoyable. There was no shortage of condiments in the bag for your meal either. It came with ketchup, two kinds of seasoned salt, and heaping amounts of Texas Pete hot sauce. That's great service right there. We ended up eating in the parking lot since we had some spare time before heading back up to the Dallas area. When we pulled up to Bush's Chicken there were several cars in their drive-thru, which is setup more like a drive-in. We opted to go inside to order since we had to get back on the road. It was clean on the inside and the workers were mostly high school kids and young adults. The server took our order and I told him I have never had Bush's chicken before. He immediately assisted me with picking out a meal and a side item. We order the chicken fingers, fries and corn nuggets. I LOVE CORN NUGGETS and theirs were GOOOD. The chicken batter was light and flaky which made the chicken really good. After seeing several Bush's Chicken along I-35, I finally decided to give them a try. I'm not one to shy away from giving any fried chicken place a taste especially if it's one that's been able to expand to multiple stores. The staff was friendly, and asked me if I wanted some serendipity seasoning. No clue what it is, but if it's unique to Bush's - I wanted to try it ! With a box of chicken and a cup of their ice tea, I was ready. The chicken reminded me of Church's, but not quite. The server had brought out a "regular" and a "spicy" serendipity seasoning for me to try as well. Let me say that the regular version reminds me of what you'd get inside instant ramen noodles flavor packs. I guess others might like this, but I moved on to the spicy version. The spicy version was MUCH better in my opinion. Good kick, much bolder seasoning. The chicken didn't really need it, but it did bring a kick to it. Bush's chicken gets the thumbs up from me. Maybe I was just hypnotized after seeing several Bush's "chicken hurdling" signs off I-35. Well it worked, and I would certainly go back. read more

So I generally don't go to fast food chicken restaurants BUT I do like Bush's chicken. I overdosed on okra though because I just couldn't stop myself. If fast food is your thing, then you will love Bush's. Portions are generous and reasonably priced. I probably ate a month's worth of fried calories but it was oh-so-good! Brittney had taken the phone order and had failed to write it down, so she didn't even start our livers and gizzards until we arrived. We had to repeat the order and then the staff got that wrong. I am not from Waco, but I happened to be traveling through town. I've heard this place is a must stop for chicken. It did not disappoint. The staff was very friendly, the food came out promptly, but most importantly it was hot and definitely fresh. This is seriously the tastiest chicken I've had in my life. The batter was just right. Crispy with the perfect amount of salt. I had both the tenders and a chicken breast. Now let me tell you about the cream gravy they give you as a dipping sauce, it was heavenly. It took me back to my Grandma's kitchen! I also had the green beans, fried okra, and these amazing corn nuggets. They had pieces of corn and cream style corn inside. So sweet, different, and delicious! Plus, who doesn't love fried okra and green beans with chicken? The cole-slaw was sweet, just the way I like it. I am assuming this is the same ownership as the Bush Chicken in Waco where we have eaten for many years. The chicken and menu looked the same. I like to have the ability to ordered exactly the piece of chicken that I can recognize and here when I order a chicken breast that is what is served me not some unrecognizable piece of white meat. The chicken is fried just the way we like it hot and moist and not dried out. This place is really very informal with most people picking up the chicken and eating with the fingers. I love the flavor of the food, however this location must be ran by young people who fail to realize who actually pays their wages! At least five out of the fifteen and probably more tables were filthy. Three employees were leaning against the wall and just bullshitting. I can understand if the place was packed full of customers but I am only one! The floor could use a good scrubbing.
