This was my first time having Bush's in about 10 years. I wasn't too happy spending 45 dollars when the mac and gravy get thrown away. Thankfully the main dish tasted good. Portion size of the side dishes also lacked. I received more gravy than mashed potatoes. I did appreciate the service, the gentleman at the drive thru was very nice and helpful. This place was filthy! Floors & tables were nasty. Everything looked like it needed to be cleaned. I used to love this place, I will NEVER go back. A Friday night that has no crowd or drive thru customers should tell you something. They could of wiped tables off as they only had two customers. I've been through the dive through quite a few times without success, so I thought I'd go inside to order. My experience with this location hasn't improved over the last 3 years. Absolutely no one greeted or acknowledged my presence at the counter well into 3 plus minutes. After placing my order, I was informed that it would be at least 15 minutes before it could be fulfilled. Doesn't seem that anyone at this location is remotely interested in the customer. Out of chicken for a restaurant that sells chicken. Granted there was one family inside with me and 3 vehicles in the drive through. No large orders going out. The music is so filled with static it would be better to have none. It is a shame that this location is so poorly managed. I'll make the drive to Bill Miller's or Church's. Heck maybe even Zaxby's. Today is Sept. 30 2025 I WAS ASSAULTED AT THE BUSHES CHICKEN IN CONVERSE BY AN EMPLOYEE!!!! We were given cold food so we contacted the store and the Manager Hector answered I asked to have my food replaced at a later date he said no, bring the chicken if I want it replaced. I explained I was at work was he gonna compensate me for my gas he said I dnt work in a gas station. I was upset. So I drove there. I got there he continued to be rude said he was giving me my money back and he wasnt doing anything else. I said thats not gonna work. He told me again he doesn't work in the gas industry, so I said I dnt work for door dash or Uber. At that point I asked for his bosses number, he said im not giving you shit and to get out of his store. I through the food and left. As im trying to drive off an employee comes out woth his phone all close to my car I ask what's he doing he said this is for the cops. I said cool I will wait for them. As im heading in the door he has his phone inches from my face I push the phone telling him to get it out my face and he punches me in my face and runs in the store. Great chicken, quick service and I got all my stuff. I hadn't been back to this location in decades, that's French for a long time, but the kids were in the mood and we were close to my mom's - so, we made a return attempt. The take out window (not really a drive thru) was non-traditionaly (four lanes), but the guy taking the order made it work. He took orders from me and four other cars, without issue. I ordered the 10-piece family meal which comes with two sides and 5 rolls. I also ordered a single side order of fried okra. When we finally got to my mom's we made mince meat out of the family meal. The kids ate the green beens, mash potatoes, fried chicken and the roll - with seconds. The chicken was great, the beans were cooked perfectly (not soggy). The mash potatoes were good too, but they had a black pepper flavor that one of my kid's didn't particularly take to - that's alright, more for me. The fried okra was solid. I got to this location at 8:00pm. There was a bit of a line so I expected a delay. What I did not expect was for the 3 people that got here after me to jot only order, but get their food and leave. All while I was waiting for 42 minutes for someone to even come up to my car to take my order. 42 MINUTES. After ordering I asked to speak with a manager. I expressed my concerns to him and informed him that I was honestly annoyed by the fact that 3 people were taking orders, yet no one could come assist me. He then explained that they were "short staffed" and was saying how he has been "also been working in the kitchen" while attempting to prove it by pointing at his clothes as if they were dirty (they were spotless). The employees ignores customers. There were several cars in the drive thru just waiting so we can buy some food. One employee looked out the door and come back in. Drove up to make my order and noticed that there are no prices on the menu board, thought "That's weird." I proceeded to order two 4 tender meals, which includes fries and a drink. I was surprised when I received my notification from my bank that I was just charged $23.34! Now I know why they don't have prices on the menu board. We have decided that we will no longer eat at Bush's. They are just way too expensive. I will perhaps order from Chick-fil-A or Churches. Or just get a Whataburger meal. I would not recommend ordering from Bush's unless you are a millionaire. read more

I can't believe this place is in business. We went there thinking we would be served in a timely manner. Well we saw one teenage girl and two teenage boys acting like order takers. Seriously is this the best you could hire? They do not understand "First come first served " the kids had no idea what was going on. They jumped from car to car with no regards who was there first. That was after they all decided to come out of the restaurant after being inside together for more than 10 minutes. The other kitchen worker was taking one box at a time to the trash. These boxes were not big he could have carried more than one. Plus he could have helped out with 15 cars waiting in line. Needless to say we finally got a chance to get out of line after a 30 minutes of waiting. Before Raising Cane's came to town, Bush's Chicken found its way down from Waco. If you've spent any time in a rural small town and pay attention to the Bush's setup, you'll see the country in it. And I'm not talkin' about the livers & gizzards, good rolls, and fried okra on the menu... I mean, check out the 'drive-thru': it's more a 'drive up' and someone comes out the back door to take your order. The chicken is pretty durn good. They got some big ol' breastesesss and meaty tenders. They've got hot sauce, honey, and some fun spices to shake onto your food, too. They sell tea by the gallon jug... and crushed ice by the bag (for a buck!) But the best thing at Bush's right now? The buffalo fries. I don't know which stoner genius employee invented these, but god bless Bush's for putting 'em on the menu: it's a box of crinkle fries, topped with chopped up strips coated in buffalo sauce, with some ranch drizzled into the mix. This is some of the most satisfying trash food I've had in a great long while. I got some for lunch one day. At least 3 coworkers have joined the cult with me. I hope the guy or gal who made these happen gets some credit (and hopefully some cash) - buffalo fries put Bush's back on my radar. read more

I am not a resident of Converse, First time here. The food was good. Tenders are the biggest I've seen & eaten at any Bush's!! I will say that I am not impressed with the management or lack of with staff not being in compliance with the State/City health regulations. It is questionable. I witnessed an employee with ear buds, pants below his ass exposing his underwear. Another employee eating a bag of WERTHER'S caramel popcorn inside the prep area where they are cooking, watching video's on his phone leaning on top of a stack of flour bags! On top of that the floors are dirty haven't been cleaned, dead flies piled up along the window sill. No masks. Only one employee was wearing one. read more

So tonight I get into town late...in the middle of a rain storm and looking on Yelp for dinner ideas, I come across Bush's Chicken... Chicken is chicken, right? Well tonight I enjoyed my dinner...chicken, moust and with a very flavorable breading...cooked perfectly. White gravy...what do I do with this? I dipped my chicken into it...another level of "WOW"...and a dinner roll that was extremely soft, buttery...yummy...!!! Perhaps a few more carbs than anyone really needs, but quite tasty carbs. This is the second time I had to waited over an hour. Wont be coming back for a third one. I ordered the Tuesday special, 16 piece chicken tender and got a whole bunch of tiny chicken pieces. The carhop took my order and 25 min later comes telling me that my order will be taking a little longer since they're making fresh chicken. Like it usually happens, the carhop takes your card and tells you to pull up and you won't see them again till your order is ready. We stopped eating at this location about 6-7 months ago because we found a dead roach mixed into our box of tenders. Tonight we decided to give it another try and it was a fail!! We got tenders again and all was ok until my daughter poured gravy on her plate and a dead fly came out in the gravy! How disgusting. It has to be a sign for us to never eat at this location. My sister and I came in 20 minutes until closing time and we were served hot/fresh food! A lot of places roll their eyes when they see someone come in near closing time but we were greeted with a kind welcome and warm smile! It really means a lot to be served freshly made french fries and sweet tea that doesn't need water to dilute the sweetness. The fried chicken was pretty good, I feel it lacked seasoning and wish it had more flavor. The rolls are huge and fluffy with a sweet taste. I've only tried the fried chicken and tenders but I'm sure everything else is great. Bush's isn't my go-to fried chicken joint but it definitely hits the spot! I'm going to try to keep this review short and to the point so below is just a few of the things that went wrong: - Before entering the restaurant there was a rank smell. I figured it must be somewhere outside, but as the doors swung open, the smell was more intense (the restrooms were located to the right upon entering). - Guy that took my order had a blank stare when I told him I wanted two chicken meals. There was an awkward moment of silence due to the fact that he didn't quite understand what I was trying to say. Hmm....my order wasn't confusing, it was 2 of the same meal with the same sides - He forgot to ring up my sweet tea, I had to use my card cause I had NO CASH which was dissapointing cause it was .50 cents! - We have our order and my daughter starts attacking the bread and mash potatoes, then she tosses the bread and it rolls over and that's when I see what was underneath....MOLD! (See picture) - Chicken is greasy, therefore table condiments were greasy to the touch. Makes you feel really close to the others who ate at the table before you, knowing that you are touching what they once touched with their greasy hands..... Honestly, the chicken tenders at Bill Miller's are a just a little bit better but quite a bit cheaper. The sweet tea was SWEET, SWEET, SWEET! The grilled chicken breast and the corn nuggets are the bomb. The chicken is grilled to perfection. The sweet tea is the best in Texas, I'm a southern gal, good sweet tea is hard to find, but excellent sweet tea is almost impossible to find. The price is right, for great food.
