Hard Shell Taco

Well, well well. I was really curious about the reviews regarding service from the lady at the register after my visit, and all I can say is, 'wow!' No surprise that a half dozen other people have mentioned her and I didn't even go that far into the reviews. This was my first, and last time visiting this local spot. I tried a few items just to get a feel for the menu and the food wasn't much better than the service unfortunately. The hardshell tacos are a click up from the tacos at Jack-in-the-Box, but unlike the 2 for $1 Jack-in-the-Box tacos from youth, you'll never crave these tacos again in future. These are equally greasy, but with more meat and less flavor. While the food was par for the course and wouldn't bring me back for a return trip, the arrogant energy from the lady up front is what really brought me here to share with fellow Yelpers in the community. An average food experience will always yield an average review and possibly warrant a return visit to try again, but there's zero tolerance for sub-par service. Pricing and competition is steep these days, and what separates establishments sometimes is simply the people and experience

Carne asada taco

I've been coming to El Chavo for years. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, but I really like their carne asada burrito and tacos. Made very classic with beans, rice, carne asada, and cilantro (and whatever else that may be in it), everything is evenly distributed so that every bite is delicious. I get it with no spicy sauce. It's always consistently good, particularly when the women of this family owned business prepare it. I've never tried anything else here, so not sure how the other menu items taste. They are located on reseda and Oxnard (next to Baskin Robbins). Their is ample free parking available.

Impressed! Two man show and they took orders and made DELICIOUS food so fast you'd think there was a kitchen full of chefs! Despite being busy the gentleman at the counter was attentive and friendly to everyone! Had sopes and a green burrito! I'd recommend both. This place is a gem and I wish they'd have been open the next day so I could try their menudo. I will definitely drive the distance from Baldwin Park to eat at this location. Parking is a bit tight. If you can find street parking, do that. It's worth it!

I would recommend the molcajete (it says for two but can easily feed 3 and I'm sure the one for 4 can feed 5) So flavorful with whole and clean ingredients! Huge thumbs-up for the food, and the service was fantastic as well. So why not five stars? The biggest issue is that reservations aren't accepted. When a restaurant is this popular, having no reservation system is a serious drawback. Our party of six--four adults and two children--arrived at 5:30 p.m. to celebrate a birthday and a wedding. We put our name on the waitlist and weren't seated until 6:10. It was 99 degrees outside, and waiting in the sun and heat for 40 minutes was uncomfortable, especially since we had arrived early. I understand that popular restaurants can get busy, but guests shouldn't have to spend nearly an hour waiting outside. A reservation system would make the experience much more convenient and would likely bring me back more often. Sol y Luna has excellent food and service; now it just needs a better way to manage its busy dinner crowds. Don't waste my time. I'm the guest.

Came in last night to celebrate a friend's birthday (they have happy hour all day Mon-Wed) and was pleasantly surprised. My friends started off ordering the HH guava margaritas, which they enjoyed. I ordered the coconut margarita (not on HH) a must !!!! Not overwhelmingly sweet and tasty! We ordered and rated the following dishes: Guacamole: 9/10 HH tinga Nachos: 7.5/10 (flavor was there but most chips were burnt) HH Taquitos papas: 9/10 great flavor and sauce HH steak tacos: 7.5/10 the corn and portion of meat to the taco was very good. The steak a little well done for my liking. Enchiladas verde: 9/10 great portion honestly enough for two to share. Rice and beans were okay. Beans a bit salty and rice was a bit bland. Would definitely come back for the apps and drinks! They also have brunch which looks like fun.

When we got there, there was a DJ playing 80s/90s throwbacks. It was good music and vibes, but it was quite loud, we could barely hear ourselves speak. Luckily he wasn't there too long, as brunch-time was over. We ordered Mango margaritas, chips & salsa, birria tacos, tinga taquitos, elote, and chicken enchiladas with green sauce. Every single thing was delicious. I was highly impressed. This place will definitely be in the rotation. If I didn't live so far away, I would go for happy hour.

I'm really big on customer service, and I honestly only continue going to places where I'm treated well, so that means a lot to me. I also really appreciate how clean they keep the restaurant. The restroom is always clean, and the salsa bar is always spotless and well maintained. That's another thing I pay attention to when deciding where I want to eat. I usually order the Chicken Fiesta Burrito and always ask for the guacamole on the side because my husband HATES guacamole lol. I never have to worry about it because I'm confident they'll get my order right, and they always do! My food is always made perfectly and super fast. After a really long day, it's so nice to have a place close to home where I can grab dinner quickly, know my order will be correct, and be treated well at the same time.
