So happy we stumbled upon this little campground. Out of all the campgrounds we visited this summer (including Jellystone in Mt. Gilead), this was the kids favorite. I felt safe letting them ride their bikes and play at the playground. It is close to anything you'd need and about a 25 minute drive to Old Man's Cave. We also had a small issue (which turned into a non-issue) in the beginning with someone else plugged into our 30 amp and the lady at the office couldn't have been nicer and took care of everything right away. Check it out :)

The cabin was small, cozy and spotlessly clean - we had a great time and loved the hot tub and hiking the surrounding area. Loved how close it was to all the major attractions and hiking spots - and liked the fact that there's no cell service or Internet so it's truly a tech-free getaway. This time, we came down for some winter hiking and stayed in cabin #3. We loved it even more! Slightly bigger with a separate upstairs loft bedroom that our daughter just LOVED. I don't know how Cindy and her team of cleaning elves keep these cabins so spotless - truly cleaner than home! Loved the slightly larger kitchen in #3 and adorable eat-in breakfast nook. We hiked down to Ash Cave and Cedar Falls and enjoyed the gorgeous frozen waterfalls even without any snow in sight. This is a little slice of heaven - so close to Columbus, so pet friendly and SUCH a true getaway deep in the heart of natural beauty. We'll be back!

We enjoyed sitting around the fire pit roasting marshmallows for s'mores. The only two complaints are that the bed was very uncomfortable and we each were only given ONE wash cloth to use for the entire time we were there. I hiked 13 miles on Saturday. More towels would have been nice.

In order to use the fire pit, you must purchase their fire wood which is inconvenient as well. They have a hidden fee for cleaning your cabin if you don't sweep the floor before you leave. They have a swimming pool which is smaller but we still enjoyed it. The office's hours are 10-7, which sucked for our attempt at an early checkout and on the road. The kitchen was closed our entire stay so we weren't able to order food here. We liked the cornhole which was next to our cabin. Another note is that the WiFi is absolutely terrible and will drop your devices constantly and only operates at 2G. The driveway up to the KOA also is super hard on your vehicle. This campground was close enough to hikes at Hocking Hills but we probably wouldn't stay ever again.

We lucked out and visited when it wasn't too packed (get there early!). I don't think I would have enjoyed it quite as much with hoards of humans in the mix. This trail is easily accessed from the Hocking Hills visitors center and offers a short half mile and one mile loops. We loaded our two year on a hiking backpack and our four year old was able to manage the trail (keep a close eye- there are lots of narrow trailways). Every bit of the trail hosted incredible views- caves, waterfalls, mossy rocks, tunnels, etc. Just thinking about makes my heart rate drop. Cannot recommend this spot enough! PS: clean family-friendly bathrooms are available in the visitors center.

I rented a cabin in the area and specifically wanted to go somewhere I had never been before. Cantwell Cliffs is about 17 miles from Old Man's Cave so I have to assume that's why I never made the extended trip. However, this go round time was not an issue and therefore I started my day of hiking there. It had snowed the entire evening before and didn't clear up until about 11AM that morning. Once it was done for the day I decided to head out. By the looks of it, only one person had beat me there. Due to the fresh snow the foot trail was hard to follow and deep, but thankfully all the trails here are marked really well. Along with the welcome signage and map at the beginning, it's easy to follow the colored marks among the trees. I will say that coming when there is a foot of snow on the ground isn't for the inexperienced. The staircases were slick with ice and snow, harder to climb but I was happy to be getting a work out in. It was absolutely breathtaking and so peaceful. I can't believe it took me so long to visit. I can't wait to go back when it's lush with green and flowing waterfalls. If you're in the area and want to get away from the crowds, definitely add Cantwell Cliffs to your itinerary.
