My husband and I went to try this place out on a busy Saturday night. When we got there, there was a line out the front door and a few people in the side window line & every table full of families, couples and friends eating cups, cone and boats full of ice cream scoops and sundaes. We opted to go inside to check the place out. When you get inside, you can see a wall of colorful photos representing fun and unique flavors. Some of these flavors were nostalgic, such as strawberry crunch bar, peanut butter Oreo and Rio Graham. Others were unusual, such as Cuban coffee Oreo, the Raven and Verde Vanilla (green Chile vanilla ice cream). Getting excited to try flavors, we debated on what to get.
The line seemed a bit disorganized. The stanchions were in a weird zig zag with people standing all around them, not really clear for customers where to go. When we figured out how to maneuver the line, we got to the register and the cashier told us "I'll be right with you" and walked away. We stood, waiting for someone to help us for about 8-10 mins while other people got called from the line to the other register. It seemed very loud and chaotic behind the counter. The employees didn't really seem like they had a flow of organization and were all over the place. None of the staff had really set uniforms, all just wearing spandex shorts and basketball shorts with their legs exposed and some kind of t-shirt. There were a few shirts that said Burque Licks on them but mostly just random. No aprons were worn and some shirts were stained with melted ice cream. There also wasn't consistent gloves being changed, as the girl who finally came and helped us told her assistant to change her gloves, which she preceded to do so. Plus, we had to ask the girl who came up to the register after 10 mins if we were gonna get helped and her response was "yeah I will, we're really busy" with a major attitude. We had to ask if they do samples, which the cashier then replied yes with an added impatient sigh and shrug.
We tried a few before ordering: Cuban Coffee Oreo, Honey Baklava, The Raven & Pistachio Heath. We settled on ordering 2 scoops of Cuban Coffee Oreo for my husband and 1 scoop of The Raven and 1 scoop of the Strawberry Crunch Bar for me.
My review on the ice cream: artificial, overly sweet & left a bad after taste.
The raven was okay, with a good amount of Oreos and slightly fruity taste, It was bearable to eat. The strawberry crunch bar on the other hand was completely artificial and didn't taste homemade at all. The strawberry was the fake syrup you get at the store to pour over your ice cream and the shortbread cookie tasted like hard chunks of cardboard and sugar. The Cuban coffee Oreo was really strong and overly sweet. It tasted like coffee extract and left a bad taste in my husband's mouth after. I didn't get the pistachio heath, even though this excited me the most being a huge pistachio lover due to this reason: it tasted like they bought Blue Bunny pistachio ice cream and mixed some heath bars into to call it their own.
The waffle bowl I got did taste pretty good and like it could have been homemade, but there was no cones being made while we were there. With how busy they were, you think they would have needed a staff member making some fresh cones?
Overall, this place is very overrated for all the hype it's getting. They are advertising as homemade, but I've made ice cream myself and had some ice cream in other places that definitely taste much more homemade than this place. I also understand they just opened and there is a lot of business coming their way, but I really hope they figure out some more organization to their service so that people who do come in don't feel like they are inconveniencing the staff and are getting a good experience. One more thing: show the customers the ice cream. The best part of experiencing a good ice cream shop is coming and getting to look inside a beautiful clear case of tubs of delicious ice cream. It's much more inviting than the AI generated photos listed of the current rotating flavors. read more
