I recently saw Dr. Derek Okamura as a new patient on the recommendation of a friend, and I'm so…read moreglad I did! I had previously been bouncing around dentists after mine retired, and ended up having an unpleasant experience at a corporate dental clinic so I really wanted to find someone non-corporate. To start with, the receptionists were friendly and helpful when I was booking my appointment, and provided reminders as the appointment approached. When I arrived, I was happy to see that they have great COVID protocols in place. They seem to be well organized, and I didn't have to wait for my appointment. Dr. Okamura was wonderful. He's friendly, personable, knowledgeable and very kind. It is obvious that his patients' well being is his utmost concern. He is patient, and takes the time to explain things carefully. He also didn't try to up sell me on all of the things the corporate dental clinic was trying to tell me I needed. His approach is more conservative and careful, which I really appreciated. He shared his plan with me, and was upfront and honest about the issues I have with my teeth. He did a very thorough initial exam, even measuring my jaw and noting issues with how it opens and closes through various tests (I've never had a dentist do this before). I have had a problem with one of my teeth for almost a year now, which several dentists have tried to fix, but Dr. Okamura referred me to a specialist to take a look before we do anything, and I really appreciated that as well. All-in-all it was a great first appointment, and I feel reassured that I have found the right dentist for me!

Once I was taken back to the room, I was introduced to the Girl who was going to assist the Dentist with the Botox. We made conversation as she went over my pre session paperwork. Then the Dentist arrived, and he was awesome. So kind & friendly with a great sense of humour. We talked about my history with Botox, asked about a areas of concern, and I squinted and smiled while they took notes as to where they would Inject. After we discussed how much was to go where as per the result I was looking for, and then it was on to the main event! Botox isn't completely painless, but I really don't mind how it feels. It was over quickly. They checked it, added a bit more. Then it was done. Chatted to the Dentist a bit more - he was super funny and really easy to talk to - really nice guy. I will definitely return. And do highly recommend! Oh and on the way out - I got a gift of a toothbrush toothpaste and a few other things - a very nice touch indeed.

Wisdom teeth extraction is something they do everyday so it's nothing special. But they understood that it was a big deal for me. They knew I was very nervous about the procedure and they explained the potential risks fully and recommended me to go under (get sedated). I'm very happy with the experience I had and I'd recommend this place to anyone who needs their wisdom teeth surgically removed.

After my initial check up, I went back today to repair an abrasion on a tooth that's wearing thin…read more They covered the abrasion with a dental filling and I was in and out in less than 15 minutes. The damage this time? CAD125.00. That's for one single tooth filling on a tooth that had no cavities. Which means no major drilling was needed. Yet I was charged the minimum fee for a standard filling. I think there should be a discount for small procedures like these. It's too bad MSP doesn't cover dental because the actual costs are not regulated. And if this is left alone, it could be dangerous and may be too late if an intervention is realized and the costs have skyrocketed. And what about those with no dental insurance by their work or on their own? I'm not happy with the pricing at all.
