I had a very positive first experience with this office…read more I am not a native Canadian, so the dental insurance system was not familiar to me. I stopped by on a late afternoon to ask about the process, and the administrative assistant was very helpful and patient in explaining everything to me. I really appreciate the fact that this office is open evenings on certain weekdays, so that I don't have to take time off of work. Yes, one might need to book 6 weeks in advance for one of their highly-coveted evening appointment slots, but I had no problem with that. When I finally went for my appointment, the hygienist was very polite. The patient rooms have TV to stay entertained. Each step of the appointment moved very efficiently (visual inspection, xrays, pick cleaning, polishing, flossing, fluoride (the last of which is not part of standard procedure in the 'States, in my experience)). The dentist was very thorough, and not only had me take x-rays twice because one of them was not clear, but also told me he wanted to consult a more experienced dentist in the office later in the week because there was a potential problem spot (everything ended up being ok). I never felt like I was being upsold on anything. Everything was quite thorough. They even gave me lab safety googles so that accidental gushes of liquid didn't spray me on my face while I was laying down -- so courteous. The one half-joking criticism I might have would be that they were almost too concerned for my comfort, such that I feel like they were being TOO gentle during my polishing and flossing! Also, maybe it's because I'm from a place where dental visits are relatively bare-bones, but I was shocked to have received not just a normal tooth brush but and electronic tooth brush in my post-visit goodie bag. I look forward to each subsequent visit being just as pleasant as my first.

Dr Chung remedied the badly moved upper front teeth to their former positions. He also corrected my overcrowded lower teeth without the need to pull out any tooth as several others had suggested. Do not go. Lonsdale…read moreDental Centre are the most unprofessional dental office I have ever been to, their lack of skill and care is astounding. I went here for a while, because I am not from Vancouver, and it was recommended as I did not know where to go. I had chips in my teeth, and asked if they could be filled. The dentist told me that was not possible, so instead just filed them down a bit, leaving me with a less sharp, but asymmetrical uneven result. I have since been told from a better dentist that I 100% can have it filled. So that was the first problem. They asked me if I want a night guard, which I said no, I do not want one. I have had a specialist tell me that it would make my TMJ worse. They called me to "let me know they ran it with my insurance and wanted to book me in." Now for the worst and most shocking experience. I was in a severe car accident, I suffer TMJ, but it was made extremely worse from this accident. I went in for a filling, and told them that my TMJ was much worse from this accident, plus I have whiplash, concussion, PTSD, and back / neck injuries on top of it. The inept assistant was pushing soooo hard on my jaw that I was crying, and could taste the blood as she cut up my gums trying to force on the ring for the dental damn. I kept telling her how painful it was, and she kept "adding more freezing" as she continued to forcibly try to shove on this ring. After about 5 minutes of her gouging me up, and causing extreme stress to my jaw and neck, the dentist came and said "That is the wrong size" . . . No wonder she was struggling soo much. The filling was done, and they were to close for 2 weeks for holidays. They informed me that they would be closed, but would have someone checking emails incase I needed any adjustments, incase the filling was too high. It was.. I emailed to let them know I was in constant pain where the filling is, and that my physio therapist was very angry how much stress they put on my jaw and neck. He did not even want me to go back to them. I sent them a photo of how cut up my gums were even a week later. You can see in the photo how cut it still is even 6 days later, especially with how fast the mouth heals it was shocking to see how deep the mark still was. I said I was struggling to even think of coming back to have the tooth looked at because of how horrible that experience was, and how it not only affected my physical health, but mentally aswell as I was suffering soo much anxiety and depression from the PTSD of almost dying. But thought it was important to let them know how bad my experience was with that hygienist, to prevent someone else from suffering like I did. To not know the proper size, and ignore as I told her how painful it was is inexcusable. They finally responded a week later asking if I would come back, and I agreed under 2 conditions. 1. I would NEVER be with that hygienist again, and 2. I would have on file that a dental damn would be never used again. They agreed, so I booked in... To my horror, when I was brought it, guess who the assistant was... The very same one that I was promised I would never be with again. I was soo furious I Sat there frozen with rage as all I could do not to get up and leave was silently have tears stream down my face. The dentist came, and awkwardly filed down the filling that was way too high causing me soo much pain. She asked what was wrong, to which I said "Did you get my email?". She said No and asked what it was about. All I said was you need to read it. The dentist emailed me to apologize, but it was way too late for that. The fact that the front desk had the lack of tact to even tell her about my email, and still booked me with the same hygienist was disgusting. Their lack of care about patients and lust for money is evident. Avoid at all costs.

I've also found their process frustrating, with multiple consultations, difficulty booking appointments, and a feeling that I'm getting the runaround or that I'm just a walking invoice. For example, I booked an appointment for a cleaning, only to be told that they could only fit me in for half a cleaning and that I would need to book the second half months later. Who only books a half cleaning? What a waste of my time! Now I have to book two afternoons off work. Also, after my new patient exam at Hastings, I was referred to their Broadway location regarding a couple of teeth (possible root canal). At that appointment, I was told I could also get a second opinion at a completely different location if I wanted one. I was confused - just give me the root canal. Why did the original dentist at Hasting (who is the Owner by the way) refer me to Broadway, where I was told I could get a second opinion somewhere else? Why doesn't the Owner have the expertise to tell me these things? I've now seen three different dentists over the period of a few months. So, needless to say, I'm not loving the lack of consistency. Anyway, I am frustrated because I've been taking time off work for appointments that don't always result in a clear decision or completed treatment, and I continually have to book another appointment for something else. My insurance coverage for the year is running out, and I still need a root canal, which I might not have enough coverage to pay for because of their inefficiency. That said, I do feel their staff provides good-quality work. I've had one half clearing and one filling done, and from what I can tell, it was done well. As for the environment, some people may appreciate the concrete, minimalist design of the office, but I find it cold and impersonal. Because it concrete building, concrete floors and walls, the office is loud. You hear drilling and all kinds of sounds happening around the office. It's just very buzzy and echo-y, which doesn't make for a relaxing dental experience. What this all boils down to is that I am now looking for a new dentist. I don't want to keep giving this dental office my time and money because I disagree with how they run their business.
