Lots of average joes there too, but mostly a bunch of gym rat types. This is not a sauna and spa gym. This is a weights, chalk, squat rack and Dumbbells that go up much higher than I can lift (120+). I am a physique competitor so I enjoy the atmosphere, but it is definitely not for everyone and those who prefer a more relaxed comfortable gym will probably not feel quite at home though everyone is very friendly. Hope you like heavy metal hardcore music like korn, godsmack, disturbed, chevelle, alien ant farm, saliva because that is what will be playing during your workout. It wasn't too loud though so didn't mind. Even through I prefer EDM to workout. My friend Jimmy felt it was a pretty hardcore gym and while it wasn't exactly his cup of tea he had a good workout. They have a nice supplement cooler as well with protein, pre workouts, and other supplements. Prices are fair $3-4 for a protein drink, $4 for a pre workout, $2 power bars etc. It was pretty empty in there, it was a bit hot though -- fan cooled on a hot Virginia day is bound to make you sweat. They did have air conditioning though but it was definitely not on full blast. In summary: great no frills gym for serious lifters, and guys who want the "muscle" vibe. I did see on the wall an ad for Zumba and it looked like there was a group exercise studio in the back. So some fit moms may like it here too.

Great gym old school and perfect for a good solid full body workout. Honestly miss more gyms like…read morethis. Worth every dollar I spent ....

I happen to be partial to Alex (my amazing trainer) but everyone of the trainers and staff are extremely warm and welcoming, making you feel right at home as soon as you walk in. I was impressed to learn there are no "beginner" trainers here. They each have a background in fitness and are experienced and educated in their field. They take clients at all ages and levels of fitness, but if you're just starting out, like me, this is the place to come. There is absolutely no judgement or reason to be self conscious. They take you "as is" and are eager to craft a personalized workout, according to your goals, history, abilities and any health concerns your dealing with. They take the time to understand your unique needs and abilities. I love how Alex is able to explain the mechanics of a movement and that he's very focused on correct form, in order to get the most out of an exercise and avoid injury. He makes my workouts challenging, but also reigns me in when I get too eager to take on more than I'm ready for. Another plus that impressed me is the effort they make to take care of clients practical needs- showers, towels, soaps, shampoo, etc. They've even offered a stretch lab and a sound bath experience since I've been here, free to clients, both of which I really enjoyed. This is certainly not your run of the mill, box gym. The pricing is extremely reasonable for the quality of personalized attention, the well appointed equipment, clean space and the amenities you receive. I have had an amazing experience at Ghent Fit and would highly recommend it! - Stephie

He coached me through a 45lb weight loss this year, all while helping me consistently build muscle. Alex is a master of adaptation--he tailors every session to my energy, sleep levels, and physical capability ensuring I get an effective workout even on my toughest days. I originally came for the weight loss, but I stay for the strength and balance. I cannot recommend Ghent Fit's personalized approach enough!

Ghent Fit Norfolk - We appreciate your review, Pamela. Crowded weight rooms can be intimidating and uncomfortable. and that's why we train in PRIVATE rooms.

I'm not sure if there's a parking lot near this place but I just park at the garage where the parking office is, it should be a 5-10 min walk(Walking with friends talking gossip stuff maybe 20 mins lol). The check-in process was fast, for first-timers, you'll have to go to the desl and they'll show you how to register, as I remember you have to put your hands on the check-in thing 3 times then you're good to go. Well they'll teach you. After that you just have to punch in your UIN then put your hands on the check-in thing then you're good to go. I didn't have time to use the machines but they look amazing and new, and there is a big variety of machines. There's also a track on the secomd floor for people to jog. And there's a swimming pool, a climbing wall(not always open, look for the schedule online), many rooms for classes(some of them are free, look for them online), squash rackets etc. There's a place where you can rent all the equipment to play, I came here to play basketball so I rent a basketball, and it is a Nike. The reason I took one star off is because of the basketball court. Although it is huge and I like how they put a thing to block the farthest court so the intense games on the other side won't worry about us the chill people having our ball rolling into their court, the floor is slippery, which means it is dirty. The floor is also weird because the ball won't bounce back, I guess they are some cheap materials. Overall, it is a good recreation center to workout, especially it's free for students so you cannot ask for more.
