    2 piece cod dinner

Stopped here on our way to a MN wedding. Pros: Tap beer was served in super duper cold glasses, curds were tasty, fries had a seasoning on them that really made them special. Cons: burger patty could have been seasoned more and cooked less, batter was pretty thick on the fish. Servers were very nice and attentive! I would come back and try the board specials next time.

Super yummy burger, I liked that they had grilled veggies as an option and their cheese curds were good, too.

Food=fair to good depending upon what is ordered…read moreService=lacking, rushed inattentive staff, likely understaffed based on other reviewers I've taken my Norwegian mother several times to this location as a halfway stop between ND and WI. June 28 travel delays on I-94 caused us to arrive at 2:30, close to the 3 p.m. closing, much later than we had hoped. There was a gentleman waiting to be seated when the hostess or waitress told him rather curtly and that they wouldn't be serving any more today. He left. I felt bad for him. I asked could we just get pie and coffee? I was told yes that pie only or to go was an option. Strongly recommend a sign that says "Serving only pie or selling pie to go at --whatever time'' be placed on the front door. We were seated. A waitress tossed two small coffee cups and waters on the table and disappeared without a greeting. She proceeded to expound upon pie options to a nearby large table. Average tasting coffee cup scarcely larger than an espresso cup not refilled at all. Mom ordered a raspberry sour cream pie and was disappointed. (I think she was flustered and that was one of the last options she heard listed, so chose it). I had a Dutch Apple with free ice cream scoop and was satisfied. Before the bill arrived, I went to check on pies to go and got the last piece of apple lingonberry (what I knew my mom really wanted) and some packaged lefse. Paid for our pies and $2.75 a cup sips of coffee. Wished I had waited for the server's bill which didn't contain a charge for the coffee. The apple lingonberry was TRULY delicious. The lefse was bland. Packaged lefse from Festival Foods has more potato-ey flavor. Mom wanted the pie recipe book, which I ordered on Amazon. Mom loves the recipe book.

They have…read morea housemade strawberry lemonade which was delicious, not overly sweet and garnished beautifully. I got the country fried steak skillet with hashbrowns, two fried eggs and a pancake. The country fried steak was cooked perfectly with a salty gravy with hearty meat chunks that complimented it well. The hashbrowns were crispy and served in a massive portion. The pancake was surprisingly good. This does not taste like a frozen pancake nor even a box mix. It had flavor without syrup which was nice to notice before I drowned it in syrup. Price was fair especially for the portion size. I had leftovers. They do share a building with a gas station which is a bit interesting. I was able to seat myself where I liked. This is an old school diner still doing things the right way. I might have to go here on my way back home!

The restaurant is a decent size, and there's plenty of parking available. Overall, the food is delicious! The only issue was with the Reuben. The corned beef was cut very thick, even though we had confirmed we wanted it thin-sliced. Aside from that, everything was wonderful, and we had a very enjoyable experience.

This was not good. I stopped by for breakfast. The place is attached to a gas station. I've had some great food from similarly arranged restaurants, but... not this time. I had a veggie omelet with hash browns and OJ. I tried to figure out what order to talk about these in, since they were all really, really bad. The veggie omelet... it was bad. The green peppers, if I had to guess, had been prepped a few days earlier. They were greyish-green. Not close to fresh. It was just nasty. The hash browns.... they were bad. I've literally never had bad hash browns until I ate here. There was just this flavor.... it wasn't good at all. The OJ was sour. Yelp says to talk about the ambiance. There were some really offensive people playing dice at one of the tables. They were regulars. It was a pleasant distraction from the food. In short- don't eat here.

The review of the Reuben motivated me to get it and I am SO HAPPY I did. I wanted to lose myself in that sandwich. Tender meat that melts with each bite. It was well balanced with the flavors. I got the American fries as a side which were crispy they way I like them. Just as the other review stated it was a very filling meal. I took half home. The only negative is is live too far away to eat here weekly!!!

I ordered a vodka press but the bartender told me they don't have that. I'm glad I asked for clarification because she was thinking of the brand "Press." I told her what's in a press and she made one of the most delicious vodka presses that I've ever taught anyone how to make, and I used to train bartenders! The cook came out of the back to chat about drinks. Both staff members were very friendly! There was no beer on tap and lost bottles are local or your basic Wisconsin beer choices. He got a Leinie's original and some jalapeño cheese curds. The cheese curds were not too spicy but very good! The bar has plenty of seating and parking. There is a smokers lounge with gambling machines before you exit to the patio. The patio overlooks a volleyball court and horse shoe pits. If I were a Hixton local, this would be my Cheers!
