The store is finally open. The store is very clean and well organized except of course for the madhouse of people coming in and messing it up, especially shoes. There is somehow only 3 employees at the registers while 4 lanes are closed...on a Sunday....on grand opening weekend with 75-100 people in line. That's embarrassing. I was hoping this would be a different experience up north here in Edgewater but it's still a budget store and it's clearly run that way. I put my items back and left, it's a 45 minute wait to pay lol. I would shop elsewhere.

The clothing here is very reasonably priced. I had a guest visiting from abroad and I wanted to purchase some clothes for them. However, I must say that the staff here were quite impolite and unfriendly. Despite making a purchase and paying for the items and bags, a small incident occurred where we needed an additional bag. The young lady assisting us was reluctant to provide another bag, insisting we pay for it separately. It was a minuscule amount, and it seemed unnecessary to go through the trouble of using the credit card again for just a few cents. Such lack of flexibility and understanding can be disappointing, especially considering the amount spent at the store. Regrettably, this experience has left a negative impression, and I doubt I will be returning in the future.

Yet, it is how a business chooses to respond that makes the difference. Case-in-point: one of the shirts I dropped off was a victim of a battle I'd had with a bowl of ramen. The result was tiny oily stains on the front. Generally, dry cleaners have no issue with stains of this kind. Further, when I asked the gentleman behind the counter what chemical they use, he stated it was "Perk" (writing it out). I will assume he meant "Perc"c as in "Perchloroethylene", a chemical which dissolves oil. All this to say, when I picked up the shirt, the stains were still there. I called this out, and asked "Isn't perc. supposed to dissolve oil?" The response given was that the machine was very full. (By the way, isn't Perc banned in Illinois?) I am confident I pointed these out, but even if not "We're sorry, you did not call out attention to these so we were unaware" may have been be reasonable. What was said was not only a poor excuse, but also an indication of a half-hearted job. Stuffing a machine so full it cannot clean means nothing inside gets effectively cleaned. Now, I want to give them some credit where it is due. When the shirt in question was redone, the stains were gone. The other items I had cleaned were also done properly, and I've no complaints. Other than the half-hearted excuse, it seemed the clerk was knowledgeable, as he suggested which items should be laundered, and which should be dry cleaned based on their material, however, I am not sure how much confidence I have with this, as I'd been having these items laundered easily dozens of times without issue. Thus, based on my experience, Newstyle did a solid job making my clothes clean and pressed - however, this required two visits, seeing past an excuse, and comes with the caveat that the machine in use may be stuffed over capacity and thus unable to clean effectively.

The price is great at Newstyle, and I'm very well sure that i will return in the future for cleaning my clothing items.

There is a lot to like about Dearborn Denim, with just one caveat at the end…read more What I like: + The jeans are made in Chicago. While I am not someone who completely avoids clothing made overseas, I feel good about wearing something that contributes to the local economy and is made by someone working in safe conditions for a good wage. + The jeans are a good cross between rugged and comfortable (especially after a little wear-in). While I would not wear these to a construction site or run in them, they work well for an office worker with a cat. What I mean is, they are soft enough that I don't feel abrasion or scratchiness from all-day wear. At the same time, when my cat greets me at the door with claws extended, I am not as worried about holes or damage as with other, more expensive brands. + The length is cut to your size and preference and then sewn in-store while you wait. While I am not a man with an unusual or rare size, I love that I can have something customized to me. It's a rare and treasured touch these days. + The service in their location was fantastic. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and worked with me to find something I would be happy with in terms of color, length, and fit. + Especially considering the quality of the product and that it's made locally, I feel as though the asking price of $79 is more than reasonable. The caveat: - The fit could have been better. When I bought Levi's at Target or Amazon, I would go for the "Athletic Fit," which is a little narrower than a standard cut but not skinny. I thought Dearborn's "Tailored Fit" would be perfect, but it didn't feel quite right or comfortable. I had to go for their "Relaxed Fit," which was comfortable but didn't quite hit the nail on the head in terms of overall fit. However, I am not an unreasonable fellow and I realize that if I wanted something that would fit perfectly, I would need to pay a lot more money and go bespoke. Having fits for every body shape is otherwise impossible. I do want to mention that Mugsy, despite being of only one style, seems to be more in line with the fit I seek. However, they don't have some of the other benefits mentioned above. Final Verdict: As I start to move on from Amazon and Target (for they shrink way too much), Dearborn Denim will enter my rolodex for places where I occasionally buy clothing. However, I cannot say it will be the only place where I buy my jeans.

First things first: Whilst she does have a studio at which you can shop (the address listed here), I don't think it keeps regular hours so you'll need to text or call to visit (number is also listed on this listing, or on her website). Alternatively, Tori Grace merchandise can be found at several shops in and around the suburbs, including Andersonville Galleria a few blocks away on Clark. You'll also find her at festivals and events throughout the city. The business began because she made some bows and headbands for her daughter, and it's certainly blossomed from there. Onesies, hats, coasters, t-shirts, hoodies, pillows... she's got a bit of everything. Most of it is Chicago-related, which makes for great souvenirs or gifts. I bought my Chicago baby a couple onesies (she's ready for her first Cubs game next season!), a hat for myself, and I was eyeing a couple of bolster-style pillows that I suspect I will own at some point. Prices are very reasonable and I love supporting a local business! At a local festival, I saw that she had her portable sewing machine out and was actually making additional items in between sales. If you're looking for gifts, items for yourself, or your dog (yes, she she has dog clothes!), you'll find some really great things at Toni Grace Outfitters.
