Fantastic Experience with Older Car at Burlingame Smog! This place is great, and their technician, Manny, is the best! Very highly recommended in every way, don't be put off if the phone call takes a few attempts. My old 1994 Dodge Intrepid had failed smog at a place in San Francisco. I took action to remedy the problem, ran fuel cleaner through it, changed the oil, put lower octane gas in it and replaced the spark plugs myself, making sure to gap each one very carefully. On the retest in San Francisco, the guy was continuously distracted and let my car idle for nearly an hour before doing the test. The car failed on the first low-speed test because the intake was too full of gasoline from idling too long, but it was fine on the high speed test which made me suspicious of the initial low speed run coming off of a long period of idling. I'm never going back to that place. Because I was raised in Burlingame, I decided to find a place here to do the smog test. A quick search turned up Burlingame Smog. The Yelp reviews looked good, so I called them up. Don't be dismayed if the phone doesn't pick up on the first try, this is a small shop, and Manny has to do double and triple duty. On my second call, it rang for quite a while, and then I noticed that Manny was calling me back while I was still on call waiting. When I arrived, everything was great. Manny was very friendly, and right off the bat, I could tell he was sharp. He immediately noticed my worn engine mounts and the very old rear tires that needed replacing (I had already ordered some). He even pointed out some signs of arcing around my spark plug wires where I had reinstalled them. Turns out Manny is also a mechanic and really knows what he's talking about! And, he cares! I told Manny about my experience in San Francisco--how the car had idled too long before the test--and he agreed that could have been the problem. He was very careful to make sure my car was properly warmed up and that any accumulated moisture/gas in the tailpipe was expelled before the test. Manny studied the results of my last three smog tests and knew exactly what to do to make sure my HC levels passed. To say he knows what he's doing is an understatement and he's a very nice guy! This was my best smog testing experience ever! Very highly recommended in every way, don't be put off if the phone call takes a few attempts. It's well worth the effort! Also worth every penny of the price, a bit higher than most, but well worth it for the professionalism and results! read more

I went there today for the first time, and had a terrible experience. I arrived. There was one car ahead of me and asked if they were available to do my car today. He said it would be about 20 minutes.. Then I noticed a sign on the building showing cash, Venmo Zelle and other forms of payment besides credit card so I asked the attendant if they accept credit card to which and he gave me a very rude response. I thought about leaving, but was already there so waited. When it was my turn I moved my car into the directed space and asked the worker some questions to which he said he couldn't answer. I apologize for asking so many questions and explain to him that this was my first time needing to get my car smog so I was u aware of how it worked etc. He asked for the envelope that I was holding in my hand, and I handed it to him, which had my form for the DMV for this service and my husband Husband had stuck a coupon and there for another small place in case I had decided to go there. He kind of threw the other coupon at me telling me that that doesn't belong to him, and there was also a receipt I guess in the envelope from our Gardener that he also kind of shoved at me. I'm not sure why these two items in the envelope upset him so much since the envelope was mine to begin with, but it set him off and I was sent away to get my smog check elsewhere. I asked why he was giving me such a hard time and he wouldn't even answer me just told me to go somewhere else and said some unfriendly choice words towards me. The whole interaction was very strange and awkward. I'm not even sure exactly what happened to set him off. I can't help but think that me being female had something to do with it. I will never be back here nor will I ever recommend anyone to go there. It was the strangest and worst customer service I've ever experienced in my life. read more

Today we went to the Star Smog Testing site to get the smog done for my father in law. It was busy with 2 people in front of us but the inspector that took care of us (Manuel Daluz) was courteous, prompt, and efficient. We really appreciated his attitude and his fast work. The smog test was done within 10 minutes. It was quick and easy. We paid with cash and got a $15 discount. Definitely check this place out if you want quick and efficient service. The only downside is that there isn't a waiting room but then again, you are serviced so quickly that it doesn't much matter! read more

Highly recommended. Easy, no waiting on a Tuesday afternoon, reasonable price, and great service.

If you're in the area, don't have much time, definitely hit this place up. Nine times out of 10 the place is empty and you'll get right in. That was the case with me today. Drove by, no one there and I was in and out in about 15 minutes. Pro tip, pay with Venmo and you'll save about $10. read more

I was a walk in and immediately got the smog check done. It was a very pleasant experience.

This place was the first smog shop that popped up on Yelp and doesn't clearly state their pricing. I got a coupon for $20 off their site so I gave it a chance anyways. For a 2014 Lexus is250, they had an original estimate of $88.20 and $20 off which was a total of $68.20. This is about $20 higher than other typical shops that usually charge around $40-$50 with certs. I assumed that it would've been $46 for smog since Yelp offers that coupon as well if you check in. Other than that, service was quick and only one person waiting. I'd suggest the shop to clearly state what they are charging and remove multiple coupons to avoid confusion. If you do this, you'll get more business. read more

I was able to get my truck smogged despite having a tall camper attached. No reservation. The work was done quickly, at a reasonable price.

Beware- This company offers great timely service but beware; they encourage you to use Venmo and offer a discount for doing so, if you do not, there is an additional charge or using a credit card. If you use Venmo you will be hit with a $10 fee from your credit card company. Suggestion- Use a credit card so this company can pay their fair share of taxes when they receive a 1099-K There are plenty of places around that are MUCH cheaper. read more

While driving, my low tire pressure indicator kept showing a low reading raising concern that I had a small leak due to a nail, screw, etc. to allow for enough time to get home, I stopped here, as well as other places, to Use the free air pressure machine only to find all of them conveniently "out of service" all up and down El Camino. I pulled into the Smog Check Area of Burlingame Smog Check to see if they had a bicycle pump or something of the like to put air in my tire. Manny was more than helpful, checked my tires for pressure, checked for a leak and don't find any but still filled up the air pressure. He explained what to look for over the next 24 hours as well as ideal pressure. Thanks Manny. I really appreciate it. read more

came here for a regular smog for dmv registration renewal...price was listed as $46 for 2000 and newer vehicles on yelp, but this is false...checked their website and there was a $20 coupon...was thinking after coupon and the typical additional charges for dmv certification, the price would come out to the normal $40 or slightly under...for a regular smog (no dmv star station requirement), they charge $88.20!...they do honor the $20 coupon, but the price comes out $68.20 for a regular smog check with dmv certification...this was one of the most expensive smog check experienced...the work took forever and the entire experience was also quite poor...just paid the crazy high price and left after it was finally done...checked on the dmv website, and it looks like everything went through... read more
