We were a bit confused as the bbq chicken half of the pie had tomatoes and jalapeños on top, but the waitress explained that the bbq sauce is cooked underneath the cheese along with the chicken. The tomatoes and jalapeños, while unexpected, added some great flavor. The venue also had 4 pool tables ($1 to play) and 4 dart boards (free to play, just request the darts). There were plenty of tvs throughout the bar and dining area playing all of the sports games being aired as well as juke box to request music. Great place to chill and watch the games!

The cheese sauce was soooo good and their buffalo chicken component was loads of super tender sauced pulled chicken, all topped off with crispy fried onions. It was absolutely killer! Now, the woman (who calls herself the manager) who holds court there must be summoned away from her cadre of regulars just to serve us a drink. She didn't notice us on a recent visit -- had her back to us -- and was told by another customer that we'd arrived. It was a cool place to visit at off-times -- and we could smoke there. The reality is that this place is down on it's luck, and they're doing nothing by way of friendliness at all to make up for the shabby, threadbare furniture or the (*gasp*) bathroom -- the floor now squishes when you walk on it. I was afraid the toilet and I were gonna fall through to the floor below. And forget about the smell. We're going to keep trying, in hopes that we may someday witness it's reincarnation -- or renovation. You may not be so patient.

I went on a Thursday night, which is the Elmer's busiest night (I'm assuming since it's the unofficial start of the weekend for most CCSU students), and what would have been a crowded mess before was a lot more manageable with essentially twice the room as before. Thursday night specials included $3 Fireball shots (again - college bar), and $3 mini pitchers, which yielded roughly 4 glasses each. Very cheap and perfect for the cash-strapped college crowd. Since it is the only bar within walking distance of the CCSU campus that I know of, and located very close to the school's highway on/off ramps, Elmer's should never be hurting for business, at least while school is in session. Come winter or summer breaks, however, I could see the Elmer's being pretty dead, since most of the surrounding area is populated by the CCSU campus and students who live in the cheap apartments across the street.
