When we got there, it was semi busy but not crazy. Wait staff were great at stopping and checking, being attentive. Food came and it was all pretty good. I love wraps, and I love burgers so I got the burger wrap. The combination was good... but not the best. My wife loved her burger so I'll keep the 2 loves separate going forward. As we started finishing up, the place got really really busy as it was bingo night! It was very telling on who were the regular bingo goers as there were 3-4 tables of 6 people who had all their own, personal dobbers. That's great to have that consistency in business... however... The 3 stars was considered because as those 3 significant tables settled in, they demanded and received the full attention of the only 2 servers available, leaving about 5-6 other tables of non-regulars, non-bingo players who just happened to be in the area and decide to swing in for some dinner; much like us. The service for us and the other tables drastically changed and we waited an extra 30 mins as we kept trying to provide payment to our server who kept walking by, trying to attend to the needs of the "regulars". It was a great small townie bar and I miss living in a small town because of that. However, when we're road tripping and stop at places like this, it's important to remember even though you have your regulars... it's the out of town era like us that spread the word of small businesses like this and proved the addition outside flow. It was clear from the staff prepping, this place is hopping for dinner. It was still quiet when we walked in. Apparently back road day drinking is less of a thing in this area? We started with a cold beer to wash the trail dust from our parched throats. Good selection of local crafts and the staples, ice cold, in frosty glasses. They have a popcorn machine in the corner! This is a real plus for us. We feel it's important to replace the salt you lose on the trail (yep, it's a BMW but we had the windows open!). We both went with burgers for dinner. They have a nice selection of burgers, sandwiches, salads and even some entrees on the menu. Our burgers were creative and done perfectly. We bid the friendly bartended adios and hit the trail. We'll be back to the Boonies when our travels bring us back to these parts!

WIN #360 Over Labor…read moreDay Weekend 2024, Barney's Drive-In, located in Waseca, Minnesota, was offering their "All In" burger challenge. The challenge consisted of a one pound burger, 4 strips of bacon, 4 slices of cheese, lettuce, onion, tomato, mayo, & ketchup on a hoagie bun. In addition, a pound of fries + a quart of root beer were required to be finished within the 15 minute time limit. I finished in 6:26 minutes. For winning, I received a tshirt. This challenge is a pay-to-play, which costs around $30. For winning, the restaurant also gave me a free pint of their homemade cherry chocolate marshmallow icecream. I was the first person to attempt & defeat this challenge. I believe three in total successfully completed the Barney's challenge over the holiday weekend. A large amount of their food is locally sourced. The beef is from a local cattle ranch. Their fries are fresh cut.

If that was the case, we weren't provide with that information or the option to sit inside since the hostess stand was outside. I ended up ordering the Monte Cristo, which was really good, but the portion sizes of my friends' food left something to be desired. Additionally, even though they seemed to have plenty of staff and weren't super busy, our service was lacking. I never got a refill on my water and our server didn't check back in very often. I don't think I'll be returning if I'm in the area.
