Stopped in for lunch and was pleasantly surprised. Nice ambiance, friendly server who seemed to really care! Great cheese enchiladas and Chile rellenos! Excellent salsa and chips, asked for hotter salsa and really enjoyed the meal. Will return here again soon! read more

I JUST had the Southwest Chicken Salad. Oh my it was deeeelish! I kind of want to order it again for supper. The mexi-ranch dressing was top notch. I have only been here a few times, but it is always good. I was going to get a taco salad from Taco John's, but for only like a buck and a half more, I got a tastier and more satisfying salad. We went on a Friday night. The place wasn't crowded at all, which I thought was weird. I don't understand what the locals do around here on the weekends. The place is super cute inside and have tvs so you can watch the games. I got the chicken mole with refried beans and rice. The mole was delicious and the beans tasted like real beans, not out of a can. I will definitely be going back! read more

El Tequila is my favorite hometown restaurant. Several times now I have either eaten here or gotten their food to go, which is very convenient as I love living down the street from them. The family that owns and operates this location is so unbelievably friendly. They know me by my first name, always have my drink order down (okay so maybe I am a little regular), and definitely take care of me while I am there. I have tried many items on their menu, and I certainly don't share the sentiment that their "meat tastes like dog food." The ingredients I have tasted have all been fresh, maybe not local, but certainly well prepared. I have had their seafood chimi, the Tequila Burrito, and any variation on the taco/quesadilla they serve. I can't say that any food here has ever disappointed me. Especially not dessert, the Flan here is pretty much to die for! The bar here is full service, and they certainly know their tequila! I had a wonderful conversation with the manager/owner about tequila and their house margaritas (which on HH are $3), and they have other great drink specials as well. Authentic... probably not. But it is damn good for what it is, and having this in such close proximity to my home is great for those days when I just can't make it through the day without some delicious Mexican food. read more

Luscious! Stopped in for lunch after rec from Nashville Saloon. Husband and I enjoyed our fabulous meals. I had the freshest and most flavorful guac, pintos, and Pollo Loco I can remember. Husband devoured his taco and chimi. Highly recommend stopping in for food. read more

I've eaten here and at the one in Owatonna probably over 50 times altogether. My friend who has Mexican in-laws, and has traveled to Mexico many times, would insist on going here when she was visiting from the Minneapolis area. I've had many items on the menu, and I have never been disappointed. I love their authentic beans and rice, enchiladas, tamales, fajitas....ALL delicious. I think these reviewers are used to American Mexican and don't know authentic Mexican. If you want authentic, this place is fantastic. I've been to the other place in town that so many townies go to and I find it rather disgusting...greasy, disgusting tamales, ugh. I moved to New Jersey 2 years ago where there is a ton of great authentic ethnic food, and I still can't wait to eat at El Tequila several times while I'm visiting Minnesota. I visited El Tequila when it was just opening to see if it was good. i didn't like it. i told my friends i wouldn't go back but i thought to my self how first impressions aren't always accurate. so i went and visited two days ago and tried once more. I was absolutely impressed by how tasty the food was! I asked the owner why i had thought the food was so horrid and he simply responded, "the cook we had when we first opened was lacking in skill and was extremely lazy. He never put all the spices for the meal." I would highly recommend going back if you visited in 2011. In a way you could say that they updated and are now fully ready. read more
