To my surprise, the daily specials were plentiful and freshly made. The staff was friendly and remembered us from the previous day; the restrooms and place were clean, and business was steady. Also, they have pies and muffins. Everything is comfort food, as folks call country cooking, like grandma would make, especially the pies. On day one, I selected blueberry pie, and the next day, I chose a lemon poppy seed muffin. Both were delicious. On a side note, my granddad always said, if you can't solve a problem, pie helps you get it out of your head. Although granddad was a rather heavy-set man, he was always calm.

Both burgers were ordered medium rare, but the Smoked Gouda Burger came out closer to medium/well done, making it a bit dry. The service was a letdown. Water is served in small mason jars, and ours was never refilled until we requested water after being there for an hour. We also requested sauce. Both never arrived until our table asked for it a second time which took about 10 minutes later to get to us. To top it off, we were handed to go boxes while we were still eating. We realized a table nearby asked for boxes and had been waiting for it to leave. The experience felt a little disorganized. Would I come back? Maybe, but I'd probably skip the burgers and try one of the pannekoeken instead if I'm feeling something sweet, since that's what Hollandberry is really known for.

If that was the case, we weren't provide with that information or the option to sit inside since the hostess stand was outside. I ended up ordering the Monte Cristo, which was really good, but the portion sizes of my friends' food left something to be desired. Additionally, even though they seemed to have plenty of staff and weren't super busy, our service was lacking. I never got a refill on my water and our server didn't check back in very often.
