Xscape Yorkshire is in a great location, just off the M62 in Castleford. It's a great place for…read moreleisure activities or to grab a bite to eat. There are many things to do here, which would certainly be suitable for families, adventure seekers, cinema lovers and co, including Tenpin bowling, a Cineworld Cinema. There is also a gym and rock climbing area. For food and drink, you're also tempted by a wide array of brands including Nando's, Ask Italian and Pizza Express. There is also a Starbucks here, although it didn't look too welcoming. It felt so uncomfortable that they openly admitted they did not trust customers to have food items in the fridges, and kept them all in the back - I totally understand loss prevention but I've never seen any Starbucks locations do this other than this one. The car park is HUGE, it felt way too big, but I'm sure due to the varied things to do and eat here, it can get quite busy, especially in such a peak location, being right off the motorway it makes it easily accessible through all points of the country. PRO TIP: If you're going on a longer journey, make this a stop off to get a bite to eat or something to drink, you have a selection of brands and you're not paying the high prices of motorway service stations. There is a small selection of shops here too, but nothing too special, this isn't really a place you'd come to shop. There's a sporting goods store and a WHSmith Travel location as I could recall, that's pretty much it. 4* - I like this place, it's pretty cool and certainly a good spot for a family day out.

Good shopping/recreational centre but very expensive. Fun for all the family. The 4D golf was a bit…read morerubbish.

I suppose one could take the view that a cinema is a cinema and there isn't much to choose between…read morethem and in a way that's true as far as watching a film goes. The thing is, a trip to the cinema isn't just about the film it's the whole package the parking, the ticket and admission system, the refreshments, the information. So, the two things that spoil the Cineworld experience for me? Firstly, a number of staff who obviously didn't want to be there (and/or were extremely shy about talking to members of the public evidenced by their slow and half hearted response to customers waiting) and secondly, the absolutely stupid, urine extracting prices they charge for their frankly average refreshments.

Cineworld ain't what it used to be. For one thing it stopped doing the really excellent coffee it…read moreused to have, and that has pretty much wrecked visits for me. Seeing a film at the flicks isn't the same without a cuppa hot java in hand - not once you've got used to it anyway. Plus they used to have much cheaper sweets and snacks, then I think it all got standardised and franchised/outsourced, the prices doubled, the quality fell and the portions halved. Boo! I think the last film I saw here was Serenity, Joss Whedon's excellent space-cowboy romp. It was utterly ruined by a ladyChav and her horde of miniChavs trooping in halfway though (talking loudly), proceeding to carry on talking (and even shouting) through the rest of the film, while swapping food (and discussing their swaps, at high volume). She took offence to this being mentioned afterwards and rained down verbal abuse upon us. Lovely, lovely people.

Well we also need to mention the inbetween and mass market too. Maybe not as much but here we go, it's the Showcase. When the Showcase opened many years ago now it was well ahead of anything else in the area. It brought mulit-screens to Leeds and all under one roof. However, that was back in the day and when you could buy half penny sweets and munch on flying saucers. Okay it's not that old but it has certainly fallen a bit behind some of the competitors in the area. That said it's not a bad cinema. You'll still get a good choice of big films and reasonable auditoriums but it lacks to punch of some of it's rivals. I find the films tend to be slightly behind the Vue ones and some of the screening areas aren't as big either. The staff are friendly but slightly unhelpful and the savoury snacks are expensive and utter dross. On the plus side, it's free parking and there is plenty of it. You've also got many eateries on site for a quick feed before or after the performance. Not one to avoid but not a place to hurry to either.

As is often the case with cinema chains it's the catering that lets them down badly, everything is terribly over priced and the service is abysmal (what part of white coffee did he not understand?). Disabled access was good.
