The venue is opposite the bus station, an old office building. The venue works really well with a grungy run down feel, it feels as though you are going to some secret place. Upstairs the bar is small but well equipped with beers/wine, pop corn, buns and a tasty dal that I tried. The prices are cheap and affordable. The cinema is smaller than your average but has a friendly feel with blankets, really good sound and visibility. Movie choice is good with new films on Fridays and more arty choices on Sunday's. At the end of the showing the old office has a great atmosphere with drinks, candles and a view over the town. Overall I love this place and concept!

There are many things to do here, which would certainly be suitable for families, adventure seekers, cinema lovers and co, including Tenpin bowling, a Cineworld Cinema. There is also a gym and rock climbing area. For food and drink, you're also tempted by a wide array of brands including Nando's, Ask Italian and Pizza Express. There is also a Starbucks here, although it didn't look too welcoming. It felt so uncomfortable that they openly admitted they did not trust customers to have food items in the fridges, and kept them all in the back - I totally understand loss prevention but I've never seen any Starbucks locations do this other than this one. The car park is HUGE, it felt way too big, but I'm sure due to the varied things to do and eat here, it can get quite busy, especially in such a peak location, being right off the motorway it makes it easily accessible through all points of the country. PRO TIP: If you're going on a longer journey, make this a stop off to get a bite to eat or something to drink, you have a selection of brands and you're not paying the high prices of motorway service stations. There is a small selection of shops here too, but nothing too special, this isn't really a place you'd come to shop. There's a sporting goods store and a WHSmith Travel location as I could recall, that's pretty much it. 4* - I like this place, it's pretty cool and certainly a good spot for a family day out.

When talking about cinematic experiences in the North, let alone the area, one has to shout loud and proud about the IMAX. The IMAX is part of the National Media Museum but deserves it's own proud place in our ever beautiful Yelp listings. It is only one of a handful of IMAX cinemas in the world and it's ours. Go on do a little dance for me, go on. What you get is some unbelievable moments of 3D documentaries and films and also 2D is pretty hot on the massive screen. For me though you have to utilise all of its strengths so definitely check out a 3D option. Especially with the current trend of making everything for the 3D market, you'll soon be spoilt for choice. One of the last Hollywood blockbusters to show there was the last Harry Potter film but I'm more than a little giddy that Alice in Wonderland is next up. I'm so excited about that one that I may need to section myself, sedate myself or run head first into a door. Johnny Depp in 3D and at that size!?! What is not to die happy about? It does get booked up well in advance so make sure you book online or at the museum if you have a specific time in mind. This is how film should be watched, so do yourself a favour and enjoy it to the (I)max. See what I did there, aren't I clever.

I wouldn't actually recommend your first film is one of the IMAX specials such as to fly and dinosaurs etc as they are quite expensive and also very short (usually about half an hour to three quarters of an hour). Much better would be to see a 'proper' film in it's IMAX version - although only a small percentage of films are shot in IMAX, they really do take your breath away. The Dark Knight has some fantastic IMAX scenes, and at Christmas you really, really HAVE to watch The Polar Express at the IMAX and in 3D too! Oh yes, the IMAX is capable of 3D! It's not your average 3D too, it's actually in-your-face, amazing and quite brilliant 3D! We saw the latest Harry Potter at the IMAX, and even though only some of the scenes were in 3D, the end fight with all the magic and explosions was truly breathtaking. My only quibble would be if you are taking young children to watch a 3D IMAX film, they may be a bit overawed by it all and refuse to put on their glasses which will leave them watching them a blurred image which they'll quickly grow bored of (it happened to one of our party) - but otherwise it's a great experience! The palace cinema used to be a great place to go, but since then they have made what used to be…read morequite a large screen (for a small town anyway) into two separate ones. When it first had its grand reopening it was really busy but on the first showing it was so hot that most people had to leave, one person even fainted! It was much better before they split the screen up. Now it is much too small to enjoy a film as much.. On the upside, it is cheaper than most of the major cinemas and it doesn't get the new blockbusters too much later than the main ones, but obviously can't show as many at once so doesn't get all of them. The seats are comfortable, drink/food is relatively cheap if you compare it to a normal cinema, but still expensive.

The 'interval' between adverts and actual film was cute, a chance to buy a choc ice!

The ticket kiosks are on the right of the door next to the video games... very easily missed. Besides your usual popcorn and sweets, they also have a Baskin Robbins where you can get ice cream and sundaes. There are some tables in the lobby area if you are a bit early... although it is next to a number of restaurants if you do want a bite to eat before or after your film. During peak times it can be difficult to get in and out of the leisure park and sometimes difficult to find parking. However, it is convenient and saves us from having to drive further to find a cinema.
