This was our first visit to this Five Guys location and, being a new location, everything was…read morepretty well spot-on as far as a great Five Guys visit can be. One of the things I both like and dislike about Five Guys is menu choices.  I love that you build your own burger.  The menu is a list of items to add to your burger as you choose.  There are no pre-defined menu items.  You get to build your own bridge.  At the same time, sometimes my brain doesn't want to be a bridge builder, it just wants to look at a menu and pick a number. Not a detractor at all, but sometimes Jim's brain doesn't want to have to think too much. You have two choices for fries:  Regular and Cajun.  Jim's handy tip:  Get The Cajun.  And be hungry.  You'll get more fries (even when order a small) to feed 8 or 12 people.  I'm not joking. (ok...exaggerating maybe).  The fries are cut fresh from fresh potatoes in the store several times a day, which makes them just about my favorite. The red and white decor is fun and harkens back to the  soda fountain/burger joint days when people wore paper hats and aprons.  The overhead music is a good blend of old and new, and is not too loud.  The walls are decorated with newspaper articles from across the country singing Five Guys praises. The music on this particular visit was a bit loud. Actually it was REALLY loud. So loud that I could barely understand what the woman who was taking my order was saying. Between the mask and the louder-than-it-needed-to-be music, she'd have been better off using ASL because there was no conversation to be had. Do I like Depeche Mode? I LOVE Depeche Mode. Just not so loud that I feel like I'm in the front row at a concert when I really want is a frickin' burger. I think, too, that either someone else said something to one of the staff or someone heard my not-too-subtle comments about the music because about halfway through our meal the audio was turned down and auditory conversation could begin. Five Guys burgers are cooked when ordered, not like some other places.  Sure, it's going to take you a few minutes to get your food, but you'll know that it's fresh because you can watch the entire process.  Not all burger places give you that kind of visibility.

After driving for 13 hours from NY, this was just fine for a quick, somewhat healthy meal before crashing for the day. The girl behind the counter was very nice, talkative and friendly. The food is the food....it's Subway. I'm not generally in love with Subway, but when in need of something to fill the gullet, it's a much better alternative to most other fast food options. It's Subway, long in the tooth ~ and a boring menu that they're trying to spice up. Yes, the sandwiches were fresh. No. They weren't fresh sliced. And the bread. Well it's ok. But not even close to a Jimmy John's or Potbelly. And I have to think Jersey Mikes or Penn Station are the better Philly cheesesteak shops, as they have an actual skillet. Still, Subway let's you pack a salad between two slices of bread. The thing about subway? You know what you'll get with no surprises.

The chicken breading was best described as mushy and that's the opposite of crispy, which is my preference. Fries get cold quickly, slaw is decent, and that leaves the bread being the best part. Order online for pickup; however, if you have time to stay and eat, that's going to keep it hot and offer a better food experience.

The Asian and the Blue. And both as we remembered. I appreciate consistency in food prep. And we appreciate the "grilled" not fried options. The grilled chicken was excellent - both flavor and moisture. Ample servings. And quickly brought to our table. The soda machine was "off" again. The mix just didn't seem right. Either flat or flavorless. And our order taker must have been a rookie. Mumbled. Talked fast. Seemed confused. We had to ask him to repeat himself a few times. One other note, when dining in, they still serve their zalads in plastic "to go" boxes. When you leave, those containers get tossed in general trash and not isolated into recycling bins. That's a lot of unnecessary junk in our landfills.

When they first came to town, I seem to remember they only had Hamburgers, Double Hamburgers, Chicken Tenders and Hot Dogs. Now they have a Freddy's app that really is helpful. It has pictures of each item and the ingredients of what is included with each dish. They have Steakburgers, Steakburger Bowl Combo, Crispy Chicken Bowl Combo, Grilled Chicken Bowl Combo, Veggie Chicken Bowl Combo, Prime Rib Steak Burger, Patty Melts, Grilled Cheese, Hot Dogs, Salads, Kids' Meals. Desserts are hard to pass up at Freddy's. I am guessing that 12 of us bought desserts. They have Brownies Delights, Strawberry Dream Cakes, Custard Sundaes, Signature Turtles, Shakes, and Root Beer Floats. We had a wonderful time.
