It's home cooked food, calories-not-monitored, but worth every single bite. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but I knew it was going to be good when we saw the parking lot was overflowing into the grass. Luckily there was still an open table inside and we were welcomed by the sweetest staff and our waitress was just as wonderful. So many things looked good on the menu, but I couldn't resist ending this road trip with another taste of chicken fried steak to compare to Mary's (and they can definitely compete because it was AWESOME)! We also tried the chicken fried chicken (delicious), sweet potato casserole (amazing), Mae's potato casserole (tasty), cheese sticks (good), and the hamburger and fries which was obviously delicious enough that my picky daughter almost finished it - which says a LOT! We were very glad that we'd ordered the "smaller portions" for lunch because it meant we could grab a few of the desserts to go to snack on for our final leg of the road trip and keep enjoying at home. We tried the toffee cake (incredible), peanut butter cake (sinfully good), and the coconut pie (very light and creamy)! We also snagged some items to take home with us from their coolers and I can 100% recommend their pork tamales and summer sausage. If you get the chance to stop here, you won't regret it at all! And of course, the egg whites which were fine. When I attempted to cut the biscuits with a fork knife, you could not cut through them because they were old and stale and not heated at all. I told the waitress that I couldn't even cut my biscuits and that they were old she took my plate and had them remake my meal. So while my beloved ate his food, I was waiting for mine. When my second plate came, it had three biscuits cut in half way more gravy egg whites were great bacon was undercooked. And I sent it back to be cooked to crispy not burnt. When I cut into the biscuits, this time, half of them were edible. The others were still old and stale and uncuttable. The gravy was not your grandma's gravy like it used to be and the flavor didn't even resemble gravy. As for my beloved salad, he said that the ranch dressing was not their normal ranch dressing. It was watered down and sweet like they had used miracle whip. And they did not bring his breakfast burrito to go. The waitress completely forgot to place that order. I don't know what has happened to the Red Star, this used to be our favorite place to eat when we came to town. Wondering if ownership or management has changed? Because this is not the Red Star we know in love.

One of the worst McDonald's experiences we've had, especially while traveling…read more When we walked in, we tried to order at the counter and were told that, per "restaurant policy," they could not take our order and that we had to use the kiosk. We were having trouble with the kiosk and still could not order at the counter. An employee tried to help us but couldn't figure out the kiosk either. We were simply trying to order a Double Cheeseburger Meal, but the kiosk would only let us order the sandwich by itself. The women's restroom was also disgusting. The toilets were clogged, the paper towel dispenser was empty, and paper towels and trash were all over the floor. The overall condition made it look like the restroom had not been properly cleaned or restocked in days. The final straw was watching our food being prepared. From the counter, I could clearly see an employee handling our burgers, cheese, pickles, and other ingredients with bare hands. I looked around and noticed other employees handling food, including fries, without gloves as well. After seeing our food being handled that way, I immediately asked for a refund and we left. Thankfully, there was a Whataburger down the road. The difference in our experience was night and day. The employees handling our food were wearing gloves, the customer service was excellent, and we actually felt comfortable eating the food we were served. Between the forced kiosk ordering with no real assistance, the filthy restroom, and what we personally observed while our food was being prepared, we will absolutely not return to this location. Management and ownership need to take a serious look at how this restaurant is being operated.
