Chuckwagon Restaurant - Tenderloin.

Chuckwagon Restaurant

Love this place. Stopped by between Des Moines and Sioux City and had a deliciously disgusting…read moremeal. Everything was yummy and so unhealthy. Garlic cheese ball and tater tot poutine? Amazing. The tenderloin was massive. And the broccoli cheese soup was a star. Tried the peach pie as well which I thoroughly enjoyed. The wait staff was super friendly and the ambiance was exactly what I was hoping for, a quality local establishment. Throughly enjoyed it.

The gf wanted to check out I-80 MetalArt and we found the Chuckwagon Restaurant right across the…read morestreet. We arrived pretty much at straight up noon on a Saturday. I fully expected the place to be packed as it appears to be pretty much the only show in town as far as a sit down restaurant. There was a please wait to be seated sign there as we walked in. We were greeted right away and seated in minutes. It's old school wood tables and chairs and I think there was a counter available. Ordering is done at the tables as well as settline your bill up with your server. Surprisingly the speed of service continued throughout the visit. After drinks we ordered the rodeo burger and fries, a tenderloin with chili cheese fries, and the garlic cheeseballs. The cheeseballs came with marinara and ranch. Fresh, hot, and fantastic! I've eaten a lot of tenderloins. Many that have been highlighted as Iowa Tenderloin Trail winners or participants... This is one of the better tenderloins I've had in the state! Obviously hand made, breaded, and fried. Not too thick and not too thin. Drained properly. Served with the essential condiments including the holy trinity (onions, dill pickles, and mustard). The gf liked her burger. It could have used more of the featured ranch and bbq sauce. The fries... Neither of us cared for them. Obviously hand made, but almost too thin and too greasy. We'd both opt for a different side next time. To each our own though. Almost every small town along this stretch of I-80 has a pub & grill. The menus vary a little, but are very similar in a lot of aspects. The quality of service and the cooks make the biggest differences. The Chuckwagon hit five stars in some aspects of both. Work on those fries and the flavor of the chili (horribly bland) and this review would have been five stars. I'm going to emphasize this again. Truly one of the best tenderloins I've had in the state! Keep doing what you are doing!

Family Table - Actual hours. Whoever changed it to "closing at 3" is just trying to cause trouble.

To the "young" guy who posted this restaurant is "good for old folks after church ... but not for…read moreyounger people", sounds like he's one of the latter. J.R., I am one of the "old folks" and the fact this is named "The Family Table", should be a clue that it's a place you can bring the little ones, or grandparents if you want a nice quiet meal with "comfort" food. In other words, it's geared to the middle word in its name: FAMILY. Good food at affordable prices, this is not your franchise, get-rich quick set up but a family-owned business just trying to pay the rent and put food on the table (no pun intended). ONE star because you had to get your own condiments? Poor, entitled, Gen-Z-er! Getting your own is exactly what you would do at one of the "younger" venues. ONE star is when they switch your order with the table next to you; when they burn the steak you asked for "rare," or finding a hair in your salad, or your food arrived cold. But because you had to walk 20 feet for a little packet of sugar or bottle of ketchup it's one star? Just how DID the waitress not do her job? Did she ignore you or was it busy, and did you have to wait for your check longer than 10 minutes after your table was cleared? I bet you didn't leave a tip either, did you? You know what, you can give the restaurant a one if the food was reaaaallly bad, small proportions, or the restaurant was dirty. But take that waitress out of this rating. For that, you leave no tip. But you don't get to tie her service this review as one and the same.

The food was very good and the service was excellent! We live in Arizona but come out a couple…read moretimes a year to visit our stepdad in fort dodge. He is elderly and doesn't drive so he loves driving through the countryside and we always go to the Family Table restaurant in Dennison.

This is a really nice new building. It's large with many TV's and tables. They have large "garage…read moredoors" that can be opened up so that you feel somewhat like you are sitting outside, yet you are not. They do have a food menu but for convenience we ordered a burger that they were grilling and selling outdoors. There are many picnic tables and a couple of stages on their large landing outside the main building. Everything seems super clean which is nice, and the folks that work there are very accommodating. I can only comment to the women's restroom, but they are fantastic! Each stall is completely private and well maintained! Always nice! I boated there over Memorial Day weekend, and while they did have bands it was nice that there was no cover. Who does that?!? Just another refreshing part of this newer establishment. They did add gas on their docks for boats which they didn't have last year. Fantastic except on this particular day anyway they did not have dedicated docks for boats that needed gas, but rather they would drag the gas hose over other boats to get to the boat that needed gas. Meanwhile the boat needing gas had to hold on to other docked boats to keep it steady while filling up. Hopefully this will not be a practice they continue as it seemed a bit dangerous and annoying for the owners of the docked boats. Their RV campground seemed full and nice, although it will be even nicer once the newer trees grow enough to actually provide some shade. Welcome back Cottonwood Marina!! So happy it was rebuilt after the flood!
