Very disappointing experience at Deserres Montréal - Ville-Marie…read more I bought a toy on discount and returned to the store the same day, less than 3 hours later, hoping to exchange it for another toy of exactly the same value, simply because my child preferred a different one. The exchange was refused, even though the item was unused and the request was reasonable. What was most upsetting was the rude and dismissive attitude of the staff when I calmly explained the situation. I understand store policies, but customer service should also include courtesy and basic understanding. Given the circumstances, I believe some form of compensation (such as a store credit or exception exchange) would be appropriate to acknowledge the poor customer experience.

I opted for the curbside service so made my purchase online for an SSD drive for my laptop which was on sale, entered my Air Miles card during my order and was informed that my item would be available for pick-up the following day at noon. Since the following day was a Friday and it would be more convenient for me to drop by this Bureau en Gros on the weekend, I didn't show up on Friday but showed up on Saturday. I parked at the designated pick-up spot and called the number indicated by the sign. Someone picked up the phone and I informed him that I was there to pick up my SSD and gave my name and my order number. After less than a minute someone came to my car and handed me a bag (he didn't ask to see the email message that I received for my order). I looked inside the bag and saw the box for the SSD drive. Went home and for the next ~3 days, I received email messages informing me that if I didn't pick up my item, I would be refunded the purchase price. I didn't think much about it since I already picked up the item so assumed the email message was sent in error. Bureau En Gros refunded the purchase price and then charged the price again the following day (this time without my Air Miles card number in the purchase). From now on, I will either go into the store and purchase the item or if purchasing the item online, I will have it shipped/delivered to me for free as opposed to opting for curbside pickup.

Usually clerks in alleys who are there to tell you where things are if you ask. Always at least four cashiers available. Popular place. Lots of parking spaces. The bad: Lots of boxes in alleys unattended, which makes it sometimes difficult to move around. Clerks are no help if you ask about something specific or "if you have any more of this item in the back". You can wait a while at the cash register line (only one line) as people are not quick, or have full carriages of stuff to purchase. Parking can be dangerous on foot (watch your kids). Homeless people hangs out in front of the store. This place is actually clean and well maintained. Too bad the front of the store does not give us that impression.

Papeterie Harvard is an old school, neighborhood stationery store that is, in this day of big box…read moreoffice supply stores, almost like a convenience store, should you need envelopes or Post-it Notes in a pinch. That's really a shame, because the two very friendly brothers who manage this store -- Arsak and Sahan -- are more than eager to help you no matter the size of your purchase, whether it be an armful of office supplies or just a single greeting card. What's more, this small shop is not just a stationery store with competitive prices, but a well-oiled print shop that is dedicated to handling your printing needs -- whether you have a quire, ream or bundle of pages to print -- and also does some professional binding work. They also let their regular customers, who they get to know by name, email them any files that need printing, and have them ready same day, if not less than an hour later if they're not swamped with other orders. I'm absolutely hooked on their very affordable email-and-print service, and have not bought overpriced ink for my office inkjet printer in almost two years! If it needs to be printed, I send it to them knowing full well they'll catch all my crazy requests (two copies recto-verso, one three-hole-punched copy, and two copies printed on goldenrod paper) and get everything right. If you're a pen geek, this tiny NDG shop is also worth the visit, as they have an incredible selection of pens, rollerballs and roller gel pens, including some very cool Stabilo and Uni-ball pens that have become my goto, all-purpose pens. They also carry a nice assortment of Sharpie markers, and carry rollerball refills for uppity Sheaffer pens and other premium writing instruments.

I hate big box stores and treasure the personal service that the brothers provide. They go out of their way and run an excellent business. It is well- managed and well-stocked with the essentials for just about anything for stationary needs and some artwork as well. Last year I had certificates made for an awards ceremony and Sahan did a superlative ,aesthetically beautiful job where I could not have been more pleased and were a big hit at the ceremony with people asking me where I had them done. As an extra bonus we have had wonderful conversations about history and art,as these two brothers are well-educated and worldly. What more could you ask for? Big box stores are impersonal and faceless , this is a place with a heart.
