Very disappointing experience at Deserres Montréal - Ville-Marie. I bought a toy on discount and returned to the store the same day, less than 3 hours later, hoping to exchange it for another toy of exactly the same value, simply because my child preferred a different one. The exchange was refused, even though the item was unused and the request was reasonable. What was most upsetting was the rude and dismissive attitude of the staff when I calmly explained the situation. I understand store policies, but customer service should also include courtesy and basic understanding. Given the circumstances, I believe some form of compensation (such as a store credit or exception exchange) would be appropriate to acknowledge the poor customer experience. read more

Hello huge DeSerres! For 6 months I lived near you and you served me well. From membership card to inventory, you are so responsive (over the phone) and I happily buy buy buy buy, because it is very comfortable to shop here. Here are my favourites: - Strathmore pad of recycled paper (very smooth) - Winsor Newton brushmarkers, pack of 12 neutrals (sooo beautiful) - Faber Castell graphic pencils that blends with water (omg witchcraft!!) - Prismacolor Premier fine line marker (a la carte, by size) - cheap canvases in a pack DeSerres has various quality brands (list above) plus student-grade brands, as well as DeSerres's own store brand. You will find everything that fit your budget. However the Touch markers are always missing! I go to the other DeSerres to find my grey's. Half the store is crafts and hobbies like Crayola and clay. And glitter. If you're looking for micro-glitter (like I was), they don't have it. But they do have glitter glue in pen! There is always a shelf dedicated for Moleskine notebooks. But most are lined agenda's and day planners. If you're looking for really quality paper, it would be Papeterie Nota Bene near Place-des-Arts station. read more

This omer deserres location is so well placed. It's in Alexis Nihon metro level which means it's close to dawson and it has everything a student might need, and if you're an art student you could live in this store. It's clean, well lit, and well stocked. No complaints except that it can be quite expensive, the 10% student discount does help a little. read more

I have been going to this Omer DeSerres for years and have been always pleased with the service. That was until I visited the framing section. The first time I was seeking a frame for my mother for Christmas. I knew exactly which frame I wanted, the size as well as the color of the cardboard, the transaction should have gone seamlessly...Instead, the sales woman spoke down to me. When I didn't understand a particular option she was suggesting, she then switch to french and explained to my boyfriend that his "friend" (me) was not understanding. Last time I checked, a customer who does not understand should not pose as such an inconvenience to a sales person. The whole experience went on the same way,it was a real chore for to have to explain the difference between the different glass options... I left the store feeling utterly gutted. What should have been an enjoyable experience to buy this gift for my mother was ruined by this woman's attitude. Since I give people the benefit of the doubt, we decided to return to the framing section, this time my mother was buying a frame for my birthday. She had purchased a vintage poster and wanted me to be part of the framing process. When we got to the counter I saw the lady had served us months before and hoped that we would be served by the other sales lady. It seems that the cruel torture I endured at Christmas was not over. This lady was extremely rude. She had a particular look and size in mind for my frame and was not to open to what I liked. Every time I picked out a frame I liked, she would comment on what she thought was wrong with it. In so many words she told my mother to stop suggesting because the frame was not for her. At one point, I was so discouraged by the whole process that I just wanted to leave. I finally settled on one of the frames but she didn't want to go forward with it because she said it wouldn't worked. I felt like I had to beg her for this frame. On top of that, when you go to pay, they leave your art work or what ever you have brought to have framed unattended. They don't put it in a secure place. In fact, they didn't put it away at all. We watched for 10 minutes as the poster was just left there and the counter was left empty. The whole experience left me completely distraught. I ended up speaking with a manager who left me feeling even worse. She "understood" me, but just gave excuses. I work in retail and have dealt with customers my whole career and would never think to treat anyone the way me and my mother were treated. I told the manager about the artwork just being left out on the counter being left unattended, and she told me that its the procedure. I asked her what if it gets stolen, she says" its only left for 5 minutes!". All I expected from her was an " I understand and I will see to it that gets put away securely". I know 100% that this is not a normal experience when it comes to getting a picture framed, we have only had super enjoyable experiences at other places, and they care about the safety of the art work you have left in their hands. This was not the case at Omer Desseres. It's safe to say, I will not be returning to Omer Desseres at all. read more
