These five stars should be lit by mega-watt electric bulbs. Burbank Electric's Wayne B is the electrician who other electricians call. He's the best. Like many Burbankers living in a 70-year-old fixer, turning on the iron and the toaster oven at the same time was an iffy proposition. It was electric panel replacement time, as my old fuse box was straight out of The Shining. Having no power one day, I found Burbank Electric on nextdoor.com, where Wayne + crew were recommended 10x more than anybody else. That same day, Wayne appeared with a fix to get the power back on while we plotted a new panel replacement. It's not cheap, but you are only going to do it once. Wayne pulled all the permits, handled the inspections, and did a seamless job. Now I can turn everything on at once. Many of the the "Yelp-sponsored" electricians (there are 18) are not even in Burbank, and dispatch from some other location. Go with a local superstar who has probably already done work on your street. Wayne's been back to my place for minor stuff, exactly as scheduled. He's also the nicest guy in Burbank. We purchased a home in Burbank and shortly after moving in, our insurance company of nearly 20 years, dropped us because of an electrical panel they saw during their review. My wife asked for recommendations from our old neighbors and several recommended Burbank Electric. Wayne came to our house within a day or two and looked at the panel, but also walked around with me and talked about other things I wanted to do. I was clear that some things might be some time before we could do or some things were just early ideas at this point, but Wayne listened, took notes, explained a couple of ways. But it never felt rushed or like he was eager to make a sale or talk me into anything, it was just a conversation with a really pleasant guy who knew a thing or two about electrical systems. (He also said he knew a few people he'd recommend for some of the smaller work, people who could handle the smaller jobs at a lower rate and might be able to fit us into the schedule quicker.) A few days later, we had two quotes - one for the immediate work to replace the panel and a second for the "larger" future project. We confirmed we wanted to move forward on the immediate project. He estimated it would be about a days' worth of work and he had an opening in his schedule about a week later. We cleared space and prepared for a day without power, but he did the work in such a way that most of our house still had power almost the entire time. As predicted, it took most of the day to install and then at the end, he worked to help me figure out where all the circuits went. Over a period of maybe 6 months, the circuit feeding our Dishwasher would stop working intermittently. As the months went on, the outages happened more frequently. We finally called Wayne at Burbank Electric. He was able to come by within 24 hours and provided us a very reasonable quote. He also told us the panel we had was very old and not the best. But he didn't try to over sell us or push us into a new panel. He was very honest that we were fine for now but at some point in the next 10 years we would need to act. Wayne was quick to respond, on-time to all appts, and super friendly. I wanted to add level 2 charging to my garage which already had a sub-panel at 40Amps. Ideally, I wanted to get 50Amps into the sub-panel to make the most of the charger. He immediately checked the gauge of the wire coming in and stated it shouldn't be a problem to update the main panel breaker to 50 and go from there. Saved me serious $$ in trying to rewire from the main panel with a 1 min check. He gave me some other pointers and explained some of the permit process so I was able to apply for that myself. Work was completed within an hour a couple weeks later from the estimate and passed inspections without a hitch. Wayne is great. Needed a full rewire of a home we purchased and was completely satisfied with his work. A lot of other contractors were very short or didn't really listen to my questions or concerns; Wayne is easy to talk to and offered good advice when it came to light fixtures, relocating outlets and showed me exactly how bad the old knob and tube wiring was. About a month after Wayne finished the job, a few issues came up that he wasn't available to come by and fix, so he got someone else to take care of them free of charge. Although I only had Wayne come once to our home to fix some electric issues, I was impressed by his honestly and effort. He was able to identify that the garbage disposal just needed some minor adjustment and that it was not an electric issue. I have looked all around for someone eager and willing enough to change out the bulbs in our cathedral ceilings. Because some had actual fixtures that needed to be screwed off in order to replace the bulb, the job called for a very very tall ladder. Apparently, this is difficult to find among electricians in Burbank. But not for Wayne at Burbank Electric. After finding him on Yelp, I called him up and we briefly discussed the situation. He said he would be able to do it .... and he totally did and knocked it right out of the park! He had a ladder in his truck tall enough to change out all of the bulbs in the place.... very knowledgeable about his work, you can tell. Rates were much cheaper than expected, and he earned it just for being so willing to check out the situation (rather than refuse to even see it). He came back with extra bulbs and the job was finished in under an hour. Woo hoo! Wayne: punctual, honest, hard-working, energetic, down to earth, just a good guy. Was very impressed with Wayne! Not only was he an extremely nice guy but he also knew his stuff. I explained to him that I worked long hours and so he offered to come a bit earlier than normal for him just so we could get his help. Excellent customer service. He couldn't fix the problem right away (we had another electrician out prior and our landlord-neither of them could figure it out) but he came back a second day and solved it! I had two old Federal Pacific electrical panels: one in the house and one in the garage. If you search "Federal Pacific", you will see why I wanted to replace them. The circuit breakers had a bit of a flaw--they did not break! If you overload a circuit, it will just burn. I got three quotes and although not the absolute cheapest, Wayne was in the ballpark and I got a good impression from him. Well, he showed up on time with all the right parts. This was a day and a half job and it was completed on time and on budget. He left the work area clean. I have a small gripe--he did not mark what the breakers went to. Part of that is the old panel's fault as the previous breakers were not all that well marked, but I would have considered it A++ if he had marked the breakers. Wayne did get extra points this past weekend. One of the outlets in the room over the garage was 240 volts for a wall air conditioner. When he replaced the panel, he did not know about the 240 outlet, so it got wired for 120. I had not used the air conditioner until that day so I didn't know the outlet was not working right. I called Wayne and he was at my house in under 2 hours on a Saturday. No charge, of course. Wayne does a good job for a fair price. I will call him the next time I need electrical work. read more

We had two outlets that had been improperly wired by a previous handyman. (One blew up a vacuum cleaner, and the other one just stopped working.) I called Wayne on a Monday to see if he could come first thing on Tuesday, and he did. He was professional, fixed everything in less than an hour, and charged a rate that I found reasonable for the Burbank area ($75/hour). He just forgot to close the crawl space under our house, so that's why I didn't give him 5 stars. We've been in the house for 21 years and I suspected that it would need to be done once the kitchen demo started.
