I'm not quite sure what burgers have to do with basketball, but here's a burger place that's all about the sport and the aesthetic that tends to go with it.
You order and pay at the counter, then they give you a pager that beeps and flashes when your order is ready.
I ordered the Mexican Dribble, which was aptly named: kind of like the burgers I discovered at Burgermeester in Amsterdam, it was kind of drippy and I ended up with drops of sauce all over my tray, table, and shirt. (You can dress me up, but you can't take me anywhere.)
My sweetie, who can't eat anything spicy, ordered the mild chicken burger. That name is extremely misleading. It was loaded with spice. Perhaps it counts as 'mild' in that neighbourhood, which has four places that offer peri-peri chicken, and a kebab place that can set your tongue on fire if that's what you want. My sweetie took one bite and put the burger right down. To make things worse, the milkshakes that I had ordered still weren't ready when the food came, so she had nothing with which to quench the fire. (I tried it, and even though I do like spice, that was something that I had to treat with respect, so the 'mild' name is just misleading. I suspect that even I would have had trouble if I had ordered the more "fiery" offerings.
At that point, I was ready to give this place a one-star review and warn anybody who has issues with peppers or other spices to steer well clear of this place. Fortunately, the manager spotted that my sweetie was having problems and came right over. We explained the problem, and worked all the way through the menu, looking for something safe for her to eat. He went into the back and checked the ingredients list on the packages from their supplier, and brought out a veggie burger that she enjoyed very much. I was very impressed with him. Note to management: that guy deserves a raise.
Extra points because they server tater tots. (I got them without the sauce, because my sweetie loves tater tots, so they were for her.) read more
