Music Millennium is the best record store on the entire west coast. Oh sure, I have about 5,000 other reasons, but that's the most recent one. I've yet to pay a visit and walk out without buying at least 3-4 albums. Add the CDs, DVDs, and all manner of other music/movie-related goodness and this place is the gold standard.

I owe these fine folks a lot, certainly more than my monetary contributions over the years could ever even come close to - this is a Portland institution and I hope it stays open forever. Also - if you're lame or listen to super popular newer bands/acts, there's throngs of other places in Portland that will gladly take your money and sell you what you're after. If this is the case and you accidentally step into Little Axe, things totally happen but maybe don't feel compelled to leave a nasty review because of this. Luckily, Portland has a wonderful reading community that operates Rose City Reads. I actually found out about this location from a volunteer at the store in the Main library. Located in a strip mall, this location is out in the northeast, an area with few bookstores. Each time I've ventured in, there are plenty of other patrons roaming the stacks. And because this location is run by caring volunteers, it's always well organized with clearly labeled shelves. About half of the books are library discards, while the rest are community donations. And most everything is less than $5, so there are plenty of deals to be had.
