That said, it's still a great spot to try some craft beers. Seating is limited so arrive early or late to score a seat once the crowds have died down!

The cider was fine at best and also 4 quid, and same with the pint - maybe worth 6 quid at most? Which means that 40 quid is left over for food: Was it worth it? Absolutely, resoundingly no. The food was actually decent, but wasn't replenished nearly enough. The event started at 5 and I got there at 6:45; mostly everything was picked over and the gravy was scraped clean all the way to the bottom. Eventually they came through with refills and I got to try the food, however the menu was smaller than advertised. For example, they had no dessert. The atmosphere was horrific. Barely anywhere to sit, exposed to the outdoors so super cold, loud, etc. I feel like I got completely ripped off to be frank. Would not return.

We also had a chance to have a taste of their brutality beer which tasted a bit like champagne (though not brewed with champagne yeast). I can only imagine the amazing atmosphere here during a game. I ordered the Bones lager and hubby got Neck oil. We enjoyed both on their patio behind the building. Everyone is given a Five Points chalice to take home and the opportunity to purchase more beer onsite. When I took the tour in May 2016, a row of banquet tables were set up in the heart of the brewery. In total, we were a group of 23 enthusiastic guests- only four of us had never been on a brewery tour before- and the majority were familiar with the Five Points' range. As we considered each beer in turn, we were provided with approximately half a glass each to swill. Questions were encouraged throughout the two hour tour and company representatives demonstrated exhaustive background knowledge of the company and beer in general. We were whisked around the brewery floor, invited to climb ladders and peer inside a kettle, then to stick our heads inside the mash tun. We became acquainted with the bottling line, a hand-me-down from Beavertown Brewery, which could fill up to 2,200 bottles per hour. The canning line can manage up to 3,600 cans per hour and we received an animated demonstration of how the cans slingshot through the machine. The brewery tour was an edifying insight into how another independent London brewery quickly outgrew its confines and made its mark as an institution proffering a seminal range of beers.

The beer isn't just your run of the mill stella. Instead it is a selection of bottled beers from both the UK and overseas which are more unusual. I haven't worked my way through them all (yet) but there are no doubt lots of enjoyment to be had doing so. The store is cosy and attractively filled with wine, beer and spirits. Props to them for stocking a decent assortment of single malts and Elijah Craig, a bourbon I very much enjoy. They need to ditch the "gold" Cuervo as it's rot-gut and stock some El Jimador or Don Julio, if they can. Casadores is my jam, but "I'm not in Kansas anymore, Toto", so I know that shipping over good tequila is super expensive, and, therefore, a financial drag. Jensen, a locally distilled gin, was looking pretty interesting at 27.99 a bottle, but I'm still in love with Sipsmith, so when the bloom is off that rose I'll be checking J out. Having described (maybe not well enough?) what I don't like in a Chard (read: not buttery, not oaked) I was recommended a few different wines that might fit the bill. Sadly, the one I did pick out of those recommended is somewhat oaked and buttery with hints in vanilla. It's an interesting wine, but not the "old world" mineral-like white Burgundy I had hoped for.

It is always reassuring when the proprietors are willing to let you try before you buy! The wine is arranged by style, making a welcome change from the traditional regional format. The beer is hidden around the corner in the shop and appears to be a fast moving regularly changing selection from both the breweries that are nearby (Meantime and Hop Stuff) and those from further afield. Again a selection now sits in the fridge. All of the above points to a good shop. What made it excellent for me was the service. Friendly, informed and engaging - I can't wait to go back already.
