Last week I did the beer making course at the London Beer Lab.
It's sounds quite pricey at £160 for 3 people or £185 for 4, but you get 4-5 hours of beer making, a great lesson on the history of beer, and most importantly ~20 litres/ 60 bottles of beer to take home (the quality of which depends on you!).
You can let them know if there's a beer you want to copy. We opted for Beavertown's Gamma Ray.
While you're making the beer you can also purchase and consume the London Beer Lab's own offerings. They have 4 keg beers on offer and loooaads of their own and guest bottles in the shop.
They don't do any food but they were happy for us to bring food in. I popped out for a selection of snacks from Marks and Spencer's, which is very close.
Phil who ran our course was very informative. We learned all about the process, the barley, the history and Reinheitsgebot (beer purity law to you and I).
This is a great course for anyone who likes beer or wants to know more. And the shop selection is fantastic. A few seats there if you want to enjoy a beer in, even if you're not doing a course.
Now all that's left is to let it ferment (2-3 weeks) and to go back and bottle it!! read more
