If you are in London looking for hard to find spirits go here. Do not waste your time with the high end Whisky stores that are fleecing their customers. This place is reasonable. I was here on holiday from the US looking for a bottle of Blanton's. They had me call each day to see if one came in. When it did they held a bottle for me. Coming from the mecca of all things booze-related in NYC's Greenwich Village, I had fairly low expectations of being able to satisfy my obscure liquor needs anywhere else in the world. Honestly, I was spoiled silly being a five-minute walk away from both Warehouse [http://bit.ly/iaR6bx] -and- Astor Wines [http://bit.ly/cxpd0u]. Enter: Gerry's. With its takeaway-esque counter and library shelves full of adult beverage products, I couldn't ask for much more.* I walked in with a list (okay, okay... it was an Evernote doc) full of cocktail recipes and their corresponding components I'd stolen from a half dozen bars and lounges scattered across two continents and walked out with my messenger bag bulging with alcoholic reagents. Don't expect purchases here to be light on the bank account, but if you need a one-stop shop for most base spirits, some tough-to-find liqueurs, or an assortment of mouthwatering bitters, then get thee to Soho and have a wee nosey around this fine establishment! ---- * Well... I -could- ask that they stock Cocchi Americano in the future. Instead, I ended up making modified Vespers using a simpler Lillet Blanc and a few dashes of orange bitters. Hey - you make do with what you have. And I later discovered Selfridges' liquor locker does carry Cocchi Americano, for any other amateur bartenders and bartendresses out there reading this. * Also, I could wish that their credit card reader worked. Booze, booze, booze! I had to organise a Brasilian-themed happy hour at the office and, obviously, you have to serve Caipirinha! Having said that, I was in serious need for Cachaça. Waitrose didn't carry it, nor any of the off-licenses near the office, so I ventured out to Soho, to this little magical shop that makes everyone start writing their with the word "Booze"! 180 kinds of rum. 140 kinds of vodka. Need I say more? Gerry's Wine and Spirits deals in good times and hangovers. This is definitely the most cavernous bottle store I've ever seen. And it's not just a bottle store: Gerry's celebrates booze in its every form, just by looking through the window you're sure to spot at least five bottles of something you've never ever seen before. A question I have to ask when faced with such a vast choice is 'what's the most expensive one?' The answer, I'm afraid, is beyond my reach at £3000 for a crystal-studded bottle of vodka. Interestingly, Gerry's specialise in Absinthe too. Not only the high-alcohol content Absinthe but also the one closest to the French original that caused all kinds of medieval people to run amok on mountaintops during some sort of cranial seizure. There are few places on Earth that one can buy this original Absinthe, and Gerry's is one of them. If you're just looking for some weekend tipple and it's not a special occasion, I wouldn't bother Gerry's. But if it's something special you're after, Gerry's either has it, or will find it for you. read more

I visitied there today (Christmas Eve) and bought what I thoughts was an Amarone della Valpoliccella 2016 - which was on display. When I got home I unwrapped it and found out it was a 2017. I love this place so much i think i may have a problem. not content in it's marvelous windows displaying masses of alcohol from around the world in such pretty and enticing bottles but it's one of the few places where i can get my hands on a good bottle of buffalo trace which makes me such a happy man. Honestly, if you can't find what you're looking for in this place then you may as well give up as they have everything. The guys that work there are friendly and knowledgeable and they take credit cards so you can really stock up. read more

Still here after so many years! The window display is always a treat, who knew there was this much variety in hooch? Stepping inside is like walking into overwhelm. What to do with the eyes that keep googling around, taking it all in. Luckily I was pulled out of booze fog by a nice chap who knew his stock and steered me to a gin that delighted my hostess. Let me tell you a story, my duckies. Once upon a time, a friend of mine (who is a Yelper...will not reveal that her name begins with an S) threw a fancy dress party where each person had to bring alcohol and then dress to match the region from which the alcohol was from (i.e., grey goose equals a french costume...not PC but lots of fun otherwise). Anyway, I decided that with my former impressive fake tan, I wanted a special tequila but where was I to find it....Cue the music, fellas, Gerry's has everything. I went all the way to Gerry's for Cafe Petron....Coffee Flavoured Tequila, because NO WHERE else in London seems to have it. It wasn't toooo horribly expensive, perhaps £17 for the entire bottle which, yes is up there but COME ON...its special. I really think I just give this place such a high score because of the Amazeballs time I had at the party....what I remember....and therefore think that EVERYONE should branch out and try flavoured spirits from Gerry's! read more

One of the best independent, specialist liquor stores in London. All the bars in area use Gerry's if they run out of spirits. For those keen on Absinthe there is a huge array of brands both in the stronger Czech and original Parisian style that retains the anise. If you have a spirit (alcohol) loving friend this is a great place to come to find a special imported spirit as a present. Gerry's also stocks a fantastic supply of champagnes and spirits de gomme. Look out for the Christmas gomme that is infused with cloves, cinnamon and spices. It is lovely. read more

You want something obscure? Head to Gerry's. Want to win best girlfriend award and pimp out your boyfriend's cocktail bar? GERRYS. Want to add some new 2015 sizzle to your drinks? For some reason I find it pretty intimidating going in there; I'm wholly overwhelmed and don't really understand the process of the little wooden gate (allowed in? Not allowed in? Selectively allowed in, it turns out?). But that's a minor detail and just adds to the quirk and, therefore, the appeal. You can't fault the amount of booze this long standing store has got, but what's equally great is the knowledge the guys have here. Don't worry if you feel like a complete novice, they'll soon have you serving your friends like a pro. Gerry's is in a class of its own. Difficult to walk down Old Compton Street without a sidelong (or full-on) glance through the window. Even if alcohol doesn't have a starring role in your life, it's a quirky and interesting shop to visit. If you're after an eclectic, specialist, or hard-to-find product, you're more than likely to find it here. Fernet Branca: check; violet syrup: check, along with all the ingredients you could desire (or dream-up) for creative or themed cocktails and concoctions. Staff are patient and helpful. It is known that I an unable to pass this shop without a little look in the window. It has the most amazing range of spirts. I feel that heaven might be a little like the window of this shop. I have only purchased items three or four times here but they are very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly without being intimidating. Amazing choice and many items are always in stock. Knowledgeable and helpful staff who know booze. They seem to specialize in liqueurs and admit readily they do not have an encyclopedic scotch collection ("that'd be the folks down the street"). Booze, alcohol, liquor, hooch regardless of what you call it, this place has it in abundance As a keen lover of cocktail making, I regularly visit this shop to track down those hard to find elixir's, educate myself about new spirits and generally stand in awe and wonder. The staff are approachable, knowledgeable and if you want something specific are happy to go out the back to find it they usually have everything you'd ever desire and a ripples you'be never heard of. They don't however sell wine, cider or beer this is a spirit only offy. Also visit for information about clubs and events (this is where I learnt about the gin club), but also for high end cocktail making equipment. I stumbled upon this shop while in a Christmas-shopping hurry, and as I was on the lookout for an alcohol gift, thought that this place would be a god-send in terms of staff being knowledgeable and helping me to pick something out- I am no alcohol connoisseur. I understand that Christmas must be the busiest and most stressful time of year, and lots of people must be indecisive and asking for generic drinks etc, but I honestly felt that staff in a Bargain Booze would have been more attentive/professional/helpful/patient than what I encountered here. I asked for something Whiskey related, for around £20, and explained that I preferred a small amount of a quality product than a big bottle of mediocre product and that something less run of the mill would be great too. The member of staff waved his arm around the whiskey area vaguely and grabbed a large bottle and started to put it through the till- I asked him what it was and his answer was 'a £20 bottle of whiskey like you asked' and shoved the bottle at me before rudely turning to the next customer. Now- I understand that £20 isn't much to spend on Whiskey at all, and probably limits options etc- I guess my point is that any decent sales person would have simply explained this to me, rather than shoving a bottle of (not very nice, it turned out) whiskey at me because it's Christmas & it's busy and I don't know much about alcohol. If you don't need help, and are looking for a good selection of alcohol in central London, then I'm sure this place would fit the bill, but if you're looking for customer service and friendly advice, well, certainly if my experience is anything to go by, you may not get it here. read more
