Loading was rammed so Tareq, knowing the area better than I, said we should go to this place he knew where they brewed their own drinks. I was totally up for that. So off we went to 40FT Brewery. What first struck me about this place was the packets of hops casually lying at the entrance. Pretty hardcore! What next struck me was how nice everyone was. The staff genuinely wanted to talk to us and let us bend their ear with drunkenly rambling about what a good time we'd had at the gameshow event. They were super accommodating about letting us try their beers too, and even gave us a few freebies! We tried the 'Larger' (an interesting new take on lager), some dark drink I can't remember the name of (it was nice though!) and, ofcourse, 40FT Brewery's signature tinned Pale Ale. The team took us on a tour of the brewery, and explained the whole brewing process to us. It was very interesting, although probably not something I'll be trying soon. I think I'll leave it to the experts! Lovely place, lovely people, lovely brew! I rarely go to Dalston to be honest but if I do find myself there again I will make it my mission to return!

It has a kitschy English pub interior, complete with the dark, cave like atmosphere. If it was my place, I would let as much sunlight in as possible. It is definitely an alright place to have a quite drink with a friend, but not worth going out of your way for.

Greeted by a few fellow yelpers, some delightful brew, a guest appearance by the German bratwurst stand (typically located at Broadway Market) and bountiful warm sunshine, the afternoon couldn't have been more pleasant. On this particular occasion, there was even live music to thrill the audience. As to the brewery itself, the staff is knowledgeable and friendly, offering me some advice on a brew I might like. As it turns out, their Love Not War fit the bill just fine; a pint of it was enough to have me feeling quite fine. Though the majority of the seating here is outside under massive umbrellas, there's a good amount of room inside as well. Hopefully this brewery will continue to open its doors to the public throughout the colder months of the year. It's too great a find to have unavailable for the upcoming winter!

The Hackney Brewery recently threw open its doors for free tours during London Beer Week. The…read morebrewery grew out of the passion and hobby of two beer enthusiasts and they have struggled to keep up with demand ever since. They even have the distinction of being the oldest brewery in East London- having registered their company only days before local favourites London Fields and Beavertown Brewery- but, unlike their counterparts, they have wittingly retained a low profile. This might not be for long, however. It is evident that the owners are aware of the brewery's enormous potential, but they are cautious about how to approach their success in a sustainable way. Peter Hills, one of the two founders, gave us the (exceedingly) brief tour of the premises; it consisted of antiquated kit, the smallest mash tun you'll ever see in a commercial brewery and a makeshift office environment that is reminiscent of a student dorm. There's a lot of charm here, however, and the lingering sense that Hackney will implode if they don't throw their hat into the craft beer race soon. This is because their beer is good. With a small set-up, you can guarantee that every batch is put through the rigours of quality control that just don't exist with larger scale systems. Each member of staff emanates devotion and love for their product. Hackney shouted a third pint for everyone on the tour and I sampled their raspberry wheat- a crisp, creamy smooth beer with a lovely aroma: a perfect summer session beer that appealed to my palate. The mosaic was heralded as the staff favourite and also delivered with a mild hoppy taste and clean finish. Hackney beer can currently be found in some local East London establishments (including our local Wetherspoon's, but it is always out), but once the owners fully commit themselves to getting the word out, you'll undoubtedly be seeing their beers in pubs across London. In the meanwhile, if you get the chance- jump at the opportunity to tour the brewery and try their beers yourself. This might just be the best underground craft beer in East London- for now.

Solid mash up of two breweries…read more This is yet another reclaimed space, residing under the London overground line (as many in this part of town do). The space is bright and open, noticably less cluttered than it's neighbors (the guys next door have a camper food truck wedged in). The beer was spot on, and in particular the saison-esque beer I finished with was perfect. The only real drawback of this place is the one tiny bathroom...they are quite a popular bar, so the line gets a bit long (pop into the bar next door, they don't seem to mind). If you're looking for hazy IPAs and mixed fermentation beers then Pressure Drop and Verdant and both representing England well. Found a few beers right on par with personal favorites from US brewers like NYC's Other Half or Chicago's Mikerphone. Getting there was an easy train ride out of Liverpool St. station and was well worth the trip. Make sure to leave room for a stout or two from St. John at Hackney right next door.

The event started at 5 and I got there at 6:45; mostly everything was picked over and the gravy was scraped clean all the way to the bottom. Eventually they came through with refills and I got to try the food, however the menu was smaller than advertised. For example, they had no dessert. The atmosphere was horrific. Barely anywhere to sit, exposed to the outdoors so super cold, loud, etc. I feel like I got completely ripped off to be frank. Would not return.

These guys are absolutely amazing…read more Brewing in 200 liter batches (round 160L yield), they are getting quite the explosion of flavor for their efforts. They brew in the morning (round 6) and open in the afternoon (Wednesday through Sunday). As of now they have 8 drafts going, and both the IPA and double IPA we tried were phenomenal. We also had a chance to have a taste of their brutality beer which tasted a bit like champagne (though not brewed with champagne yeast). Food items include a sausage rolls a scotch egg and a vegetarian scotch egg (whatever that could be ...lol) The bar staff is INCREDIBLY nice, you absolutely have to check this place out of you find yourself in London
